3 Reasons You Want to Be Yukon Cornelius
Each Christmas season, I make it a point to watch “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on TV. And while many of the characters in the show are outstanding, the best has to be Yukon Cornelius. Let’s face it, we would all like to be a bit more like him, and here are three reasons why.
The name. I don’t fault my parents for giving me an old-school name such as David, but it doesn’t exactly conjure up images of ruggedness and the outdoors. Would I be working as managing editor of OutdoorHub had I been named Yukon? No. Instead, I’d be teaching survival classes in the...
Lifelike Buck Decoy Catches Roadside Poachers in 5 minutes
The Illinois DNR is cracking down on poachers. On the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Facebook page, CPO's Michael Goetten and Chris Gushleff are seen with their new poacher-catching buck decoy, and it works really well.
The two officers deployed the decoy on the side of the road one morning, and within 5 minutes, lead began to fly. According to the post, a 13-year-old boy of Greene County, Illinois, was the one who pulled the trigger.
Now, before you go calling this kid a snot-nosed punk, it was actually the boy's grandfather who directed him to shoot the "deer."...
Video: If You Have a Hunting Dog Waiting for You at Home, This is for You
This story is guaranteed to pull at your heart strings. It’s the story of a dog, but not just any dog. This is the story of a hunting dog that loved hunting, his owner and ducks probably more than himself.
You cannot replace an incredible gundog, and it’s even harder to replace that bond between a hunting dog and its owner. It’s something truly special.
Tony Vandeomore had a very special bond with his first dog, Ruff, and he talked a little bit about it in this short, heartfelt video in remembrance of his old...
Whitetail Wednesday: How to Outsmart Late-Season Bucks
During the late season, most mature bucks throughout much of the whitetail’s range have been alerted by hunters. This conditions them to be more vigilant, and therefore tougher to hunt.
Even though they are more cautious, however, they still need to eat, find receptive does, and return to cover. By comparison, younger deer aren’t as quick to change their pattern due to increased hunting pressure. This is why there’s often still sign in open areas, as long as the local preferred food sources don’t change.
Mature deer often change their patterns to avoid areas they associate with...
Fisherman Lands Kilo of Cocaine off Miami Coastline
A fisherman in Miami landed something you won't find on any restaurants "fresh catch of the day."
Mark Quartiano, AKA "Mark the Shark," and his crew were fishing off the coast of Miami about 2 miles when they hooked into something you won't find in any fish market.
Once the crew reeled in the package, it turned out they had caught a kilo of cocaine which has a street value of almost $30,000!
Quartiano immediately contacted the U.S. Coast Guard and turned the drugs in as soon as they returned to shore. "This is the first time we've found some cocaine," Quartiano said.
Quartiano said...
Video: Moose in Finland Follows Drone Resulting in Some Interesting Footage
We found some cool drone footage that we think you'll find rather amoosing.
Flying through the woods in Norway, a drone captured this video of a moose that had a rather surprising reaction to the weird flying object. Moose don't have the greatest eyesight, but they are known for being a little skittish, so it's surprising this moose was so camera friendly.
She's not shy at all, she sticks her mug right in the camera like "I'm ready for my close up!" and when the camera moves away, she keeps coming back for more!

Video: Man Builds 5-In-1 Gun Because . . . Why Not?
If there ever is a zombie apocalypse, I’m building one of these. It’s a 5-in-1, heavy-duty, ass-kicking machine!
This guy in Canada put all these guns together because . . . well, why not. And we’re giving him two thumbs up for it.
This 5-in-1 gun consists of a Marlin 1895 GS, an 870 Wingmaster/Masterkey, an IWI TAR-21, and a UTS – UTAS 15. It weighs 50 pounds loaded, and delivers one hell of a punch . . . make that five punches.
By the time he's done shooting this massive weapon, he has to drop to one knee to hold it up. We’ll give him credit for building the gun, but...
Video: SUV Pulled From River Filled With Dozens of Giant Catfish
Using an SUV for catfish bait brings up only one question: why didn’t someone think of this sooner?
What’s the best bait to catch catfish? Everyone has their own opinion, but after seeing this video, we would argue that an SUV is the best method.
Pulling a sunken SUV from the muddy riverbank revealed something that never crossed our minds: An SUV is a sure fire way to catch dozens of catfish!
You have to stay until the end to see how this pays off, but see if you can count how many fish come out of the rear-view window of this sunken SUV.

Deer Electrocuted by Downed Powerline
You hate to see something so bizarre like this. A post on Facebook has been floating around on social media, and hunters should pay attention.
These deer were found dead near a downed powerline and also right by a deer blind. If you hunt near powerlines, always be safe and aware while walking by them in the dark. Just think if a hunter had been out in the same area that morning. Scary!

Video: How GLOCK in Austria Does Quality Control
Here is a cool little video that shows how GLOCK in Austria tests the quality of its firearms.
One after another, these guns are put to the test to make sure quality and performance is up to par. All you gun heads out there are surely drooling, asking yourself “How in the heck do I get that job?”
It does seem like a pretty good gig . . . I wonder how hard it is to resist the temptation of testing all those bad boys yourself. If it were me, I would definitely have a hard time not firing off a few mags myself.
Speaking of Austria...

The Weirdest Looking Whitetail Deer of 2016
Deer deformities come in all different forms, but this might be the weirdest looking deer of 2016.
No, we did not apply any Snapchat filters to this photo, this Wisconsin buck just looks a little different than the rest of the herd. Has anyone ever seen a deer with a face like this?
It’s unclear whether this deer was taken by a hunter or if it died of natural causes. As you can see, the deer’s bottom jaw protrudes more than its top jaw, which could have caused the deer to have difficulty eating. Either way, chances are this deer did not have the greatest quality of life, so...
