An after-school fight between two girls in a park near a Pasadena, Texas, high school last week took an unexpected turn when the mother of one of the girls allegedly showed up with a gun and pistol whipped her daughter’s foe. The woman was arrested after school administrators called the police.

The school sent a letter home informing parents of the incident, and the girls involved are under disciplinary action. Virdiana Alvarez, the pistol-packing mother, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently out on a $35,000 bond.

Following a “strict scrutiny” analysis by a Missouri circuit court judge, a St. Louis felon arrested with a handgun saw his charges dismissed last week under a new amendment to the state constitution. The ruling was issued Friday by St. Louis Circuit Judge Robert Dierker in the case of Raymond Robinson, 55, who was arrested on July 28, 2014 following an anonymous tip to police that he was in illegal possession of a firearm.
