Stephen Colbert discusses debate after Oregon shooting (VIDEO)

Wed, 10/07/2015 - 10:58

Late Show host Stephen Colbert addressed the shooting at a community college in Oregon last week in the wake of the tragedy. As the incidents are publicized, the public has grown keenly aware that little to nothing has been done legislatively to address the perceived problem.

“One of the definitions of insanity is changing nothing and then pretending that something will change,” said Colbert.

John Oliver on Oregon shooting: ‘Worst time to talk about mental health’ (VIDEO)

Wed, 10/07/2015 - 08:39

In the wake of a mass shooting, like the one that occurred in Oregon last week, many supporting gun control measures take to highlighting the issue while many who oppose it try to redirect the conversation to mental health.

John Oliver, host of Last Week Tonight, discusses how our national system of treating mental health works, or more often than not, how it doesn’t.

Ten pin! Bowling ball vs. 10mm (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 18:26

The Wound Channel picked up a gently used Rhino bowling ball and promptly proceeded to test it against the vaunted 10mm.

Originally crafted in plastic, most bowling balls since the 1980s have been made of polyurethane or reactive resin– but plenty of the old plastic house balls are still around. Now take one of them and apply a DoubleTap 165gr JHP Nosler 10mm round to it, and you have a gutter ball all day.

Testing to see if a 1911 will work at -65 F (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 17:42

Brass Fetcher has a pretty neat slo-mo video showing the effects of extreme cold weather on a Remington R1 1911.

Using SIG 45 Auto 200-grain V-Crown hollow points and a Ransom shooting rest, the gun and ammo was chilled at extremely low temperatures for two hours before firing.

How low?

The test was conducted at -65°F (-53 C, 219 Kelvin,) which is pretty friggen cold. To put that into perspective, most home deep freezers only get down to about -15°C and the average winter temperature at the South Pole is about -49°C.

So yeah, like colder than your ex-girlfriend’s heart type cold.

Well, almost.

Answers after another mass shooting

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 17:03

Here we are again.  Yet another nutcase decompensated in his life—probably a pathetic one—and killed innocent human beings, leaving us to wonder what are the causes and what are the solutions.  Contrary to the claims of gun control advocates, a great many of us on the side of gun rights do care.  We hurt as much as they over the outrageous loss of life.  And we desire solutions just as much as any other group of honest people in this country.

Assassinating aspirin from 25 feet with NO sights (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 15:23

Plinkster22, well known for his “Drug Abuse” videos where he slays random tabs of aspirin in innovative ways, gives it a go with no sights installed.

Yup, although his Tactical Solutions X-Ring “Frankenrifle,” complete with a Silencerco can, is pretty sweet, this go around it is sans optics or iron sights of any kind.

We talked about it in the office and decided we could do the same thing. In our dreams.

Russian soldier thwarts kidnapping… sort of (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 14:03

When a Russian soldier happened upon what appeared to be a dire situation – a man with a gun to a woman’s head as he attempted to kidnap her while two men in black, presumably law enforcement offiers, had their guns trained on the woman’s assailant – he wasn’t the least bit hesitate to put his skills to good use and save the woman. But it wasn’t until after the soldier had bravely taken down the woman’s attacker that he was informed the situation wasn’t as dire as it appeared, and in fact, the group was simply filming a scene for a movie.
