Energy & Natural Resources Bill — Why Is It Important to You?
On its surface, covering the Energy & Natural Resources Bill may seem out of place on The Shooter's Log. However, an amendment to the Energy & Natural Resources Bill is the bipartisan Sportsman's Act which revises a variety of existing programs to expand access to, and opportunities for, hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting.

Missouri Bill Seeks to Hold Gun Free Owners Liable for Damages
In Missouri, proposed bill HB 96 would apply when a person who is authorized to carry a firearm is prohibited from doing so by a business and is then injured by another person or an animal. If the injured person could otherwise have used a gun for self-defense, they could sue the business, which “assume(s) custodial responsibility for the safety and defense of any person” on their property who could carry. Read the history and details in the story.
Cheap Life Insurance — The Rumorings of Ol’ Bob
There have always been more cheap guns than good guns in my opinion, and the same is true today. Likewise, there have always been very few inexpensive but good guns. Read the full story for the pros and cons of picking your self-defense handgun.

Coach Guns — Double Barreled Defense
For personal defense, the double barrel handles quickly and points well. It isn’t well suited for tactical use by special teams, but for home defense the double barrel, particularly a short barrel coach gun, is ideal. The double barrel is also easy to train with. Another advantage is that with two loads, you can stage the load. A lighter load first and then buckshot for problems inside the home, but that's not the only advantage...
NSSF Gets Second Chance to Argue Against Microstamping Law
After a disappointing decision, the appellate court gave new life to the National Shooting Sports Foundation's (NSSF) effort to block enforcement of a law that would be impossible through today's technological standards—namely microstamping.

ATF: Marijuana and Firearms Don’t Mix
Much has been written in the comment section of The Shooter's Log regarding state versus federal laws. So, this article should provide for lively debate. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) has issued a clarification to language on ATF Form 4473. The clarification covers the use of marijuana in states that have legalized it for recreational or medicinal use versus federal law.
NSSF: HUNT S.A.F.E. . . . Hunting Checklist for Families
Hunting is a rich tradition, often passed down from family members to the next generation. The time may come when it’s your turn to introduce your children to this unique, exciting experience. Start by sharing stories about exploring the outdoors, outsmarting the game or even your first hunt; and please remember that safety should be part of every conversation about hunting and firearm use. The most important part of sharing this experience with your loved ones is ensuring they understand that proper precautions and responsible use of firearms can help make every hunting trip safe, fun and memorable. Don’t know where to start? Use the following checklist as your guide.
What’s In Your “Crash Box”?
If the blaring sound of your alarm doesn’t deter the criminal, and you’re trying to gather your family members in a bedroom to keep them safe, you need to ensure that whatever room you end up in has the proper supplies to protect you until the police arrive... And that’s where the Crash Box comes in. A Crash Box is simply a fancy name for a safe that is in the bedroom (or in every bedroom) that has the necessary supplies to fend off an intruder. It’s a medium-sized safe, not a gigantic gun safe that is going to take you forever to open, but it could mean the difference between life and death.
NRA: Flawed Study Takes Aim at “Stand Your Ground”
Donald Trump won the election, which has allowed many to conclude that the Second Amendment dodged an anti-gun bullet. You may agree or disagree, but one thing is for sure, the anti gunners have not given up their agenda—in the United States and across the pond. In a recent article published by the NRA, the Journal of the American Medical Association’s (JAMA) takes aim at Florida's Stand Your Ground law.

The Rock Island 1911 and a History of the .38 Super Cartridge
The .38 Super is dimensionally identical to the .38 ACP of 1900. The .38 ACP fired a 130-grain bullet at 1,100 fps. The .38 Super was a sensation, noted for its high velocity of 1300 fps and nine fast shots. Colt upped the power of the cartridge but used the same length cartridge case and chambered the .38 Super in the 1911 when it dropped production of the .38 ACP pistols. At the time, you had to know not to fire a .38 Super in older Colt 1903 pistols.
Sporting Clays: Getting Started
Sporting clays is quite possibly the ultimate shotgun sport, but also a discipline that a complete beginner can participate in and enjoy as much as the seasoned veteran. Although you can never master sporting clays, it is the pursuit and variation that come from one target to the next or one course to the next that keeps shotgunners hungry for more rounds that is never quite satiated.

Review: Lightfield Slugs
I have experimented with slugs for over 30 years because I wanted to improve the performance of the police-style riot gun. These slugs are powerful, they pound the shoulder, and they get the job done. While Lightfield's offering excel for defense, hunters are not forgotten with both light and heavy recoil loads for added knock-down power. If you are looking for maximum performance, check out Lightfield. They are sometimes overlooked but not because of accuracy and power. This specialty maker offers real performance at a fair price.
