NRA: Federal Appeals Court’s Shocking Pronouncement on Your Rights

Sun, 01/29/2017 - 21:40
A decision this week by the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is a stark and sobering reminder of the utter disdain and denial with which many judges continue to treat the right to keep and bear arms. Taken to its logical extreme, the opinion declares open season on law-abiding Americans who choose to carry firearms for self-defense. It may well be the most anti-gun ruling from any court of the modern era.

As such the Victory will have to have good features, good reliability and acceptable accuracy. The price point is also important. Smith and Wesson’s previous .22 caliber self loaders were not in the class with this pistol and the hopes Smith and Wesson has pinned on this pistol are not without justification.

Mon, 01/09/2017 - 18:53
The argument between which firearm—shotgun or handgun—is best for home defense is almost as old as the 9mm vs. .45 ACP debate. However, we are still debating it because neither camp has conceded. In this video, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Clint Smith, president and director of the Thunder Ranch training center, talks about why the comparative length of a handgun—when used properly—is insignificant to that of a shotgun and why length alone should not be a deterrent when choosing a firearm for home defense.

Range Report: Testing Practical .45 Colt Accuracy at 100 Yards

Sun, 01/08/2017 - 14:07
The Army demanded that the Single Action Army take down an Indian war pony at 100 yards. Was this a reasonable expectation? The question is an interesting one, and perhaps since we do not have a need to shoot Indian war ponies these days, irrelevant. However, with our interests piqued, we simply had to have the answer, so Bob Campbell took on the challenge. Here are the results.

Details include reciprocity for permit holders as well as protections for residents of states with Constitutional Carry laws. Read the full details here.

The ’97 Wild Bunch Shotgun

Thu, 01/05/2017 - 20:48
The Winchester 1897 shotgun was manufactured from 1897 to 1957. At one time the ’97 set the standard for combat shotguns. With a five-round tubular magazine fed by a helical coil spring and featuring a reliable slide action the ’97 is a rugged serviceable shotgun. While the author has tested quite a few shotguns for a new book, the pump-action clone of the Winchester 1897 is a hands-down favorite for fun shooting.
