California Target of Federal Lawsuit Against Magazine Ban

Sat, 05/06/2017 - 15:31
While certain threats to the Second Amendment have been lessened, we still need to remain vigilant and attack the previous egregious assaults to our rights. In furtherance of that effort, the Second Amendment Foundation and others have joined forces in a federal lawsuit challenging that state's law prohibiting the possession, use or acquisition of so-called "large capacity magazines," by calling the ban "hopelessly vague and ambiguous."

How Often Should I Clean My Handgun?

Fri, 05/05/2017 - 15:34
We all may know of handguns that have been going since World War II without changing the springs, but this simply isn’t optimal performance. We purchased a high-end pistol so that we would not have to worry about reliability, true, but maintenance is part of every firearm. The question that is often asked is how often should we clean the handgun? The answer really depends upon the firearm.

Review: Ruger Blackhawk

Wed, 03/01/2017 - 21:40
Today, much of the market seems to revolve around tactical gear and personal defense. That is important, nothing is more vital than taking responsibility for our own safety. However, personal defense isn’t the only reason to own a powerful and accurate handgun such as the Ruger Blackhawk. This single-action revolver is also a fine target gun and a great game getter.

CGF Seeks Review by Full 9th Circuit Court in Waiting Period Case

Sun, 02/26/2017 - 20:42
It sounds like the punchline to bad joke, "So, a guy is concealed carrying a handgun while filling out paperwork to buy another handgun, but he is in California, so he has to wait 10 days to pick it up—to give him time to "cool off" (guard against impulsive acts of violence). Unfortunately, that is not a joke. It is the logic of the gun control crowd... and a recent court ruling.

Little Texas: What it Means to ‘Shoot Like a Girl’

Fri, 02/24/2017 - 13:29
At a glance, eight-year-old Addysson Soltau looks like your everyday American girl: a straight-A student and cheerleader who loves being outdoors and spending time playing with friends. If you ask her what her favorite thing in the world is, however, you might be surprised at her response: shooting—and not just plinking cans in the backyard, either.

Plinking Fun — Unrestricted!

Wed, 02/22/2017 - 08:20
Plinking is difficult to define, and that is how I like it. Plinking is the purest form of shooting fun. It is without limits or rules other than safety. To place boundaries on recreation, or what may even advance to an art form, is an exercise in frustration. Anything that encourages the learning of proper trigger press and sight alignment is good, but take note of the danger of taking family and friends plinking. It may result in new enthusiasts to the shooting sports.

Review: Walther PPS M2 9mm Pistol

Sun, 02/19/2017 - 16:46
The PPS was a gun ahead of its time delivering a feature rich, accurate, and configurable, ready-to-carry single stack that could behave like a compact, mid- and full- sized gun. Based on two years of carrying and shooting the PPS, it is my perception that it is one of the best subcompact concealed carry single-stack guns on the market despite the introduction of many other competitor firearms.

Magazine Maintenance for the AR-15

Fri, 02/17/2017 - 08:30
I get a lot of correspondence from folks complaining about magazine problems. I never liked the answer I gave them, and that’s led to this article. There are four pieces-parts to a box magazine: the follower, which is the tray that lifts the cartridges into position; the spring, which powers the follower; the base plate, which secures the spring; and the box. This article looks at all of them and gives tips to maintain and repair your magazines.
