At the Range: Browning 1919 Machine Gun

Fri, 03/14/2014 - 15:38

Among his extensive list of successful machine guns, one of John M. Browning’s most famous designs was the 1919 machine gun.

Originally chambered in .30-06, the 1919 improved upon Browning’s previous designs in several ways. Most notably, the 1919′s air-cooled barrel was more portable and greatly reduced amount of weight soldiers had to haul around the battlefield.

Browning’s 1919 machine gun saw combat in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Many of Browning’s designs sti

G&A Madness 2014: Vote, Debate & Win

Thu, 03/13/2014 - 08:05

G&A Madness is back and better than ever in 2014 with all-new guns and more amazing prizes. Guns & Ammo and our network partners have reviewed a lot of guns, and we’re bringing them all together so you can vote, debate and win!

How it Works
Guns & Ammo’s version of bracketology is just like the traditional NCAA basketball tournament bracket, but with a few twists.

Instead of filling out your entire bracket at once, we’re asking readers to vote in each of the six tourney rounds. The winning gun from each match-up will move on, until we have a final four of favorite firearms and eventually a champion. Here’s how the tournament breaks down:

G&A Madness begins on Mar. 18, with 64 different firearms split into four regions:

  •     Handguns
  •     Rifles
  •     Shotguns
  •     Modern Sporting Rifles

SureFire Ryder 22-A Suppressor Review

Tue, 03/11/2014 - 10:03

Since Dr. John Mathews founded the company in 1979, SureFire’s (then Laser Products) corporate focus has been on police and military end users with an ever-growing segment of switched-on civilian clients. Over the years, some products and product lines have moved in the direction of the recreational shooter or self-defense practitioner, but for the most part, SureFire has directed their resources and products toward the professional end user. This dedication to the armed professional has also carried over to its suppressor line. Heavily used in the War on Terror, there was the impression that SureFire cans wer

First Look: DPMS GII .308

Fri, 03/07/2014 - 15:07

New for 2014, the DPMS GII .308 Win. rifle combines the dimensions and components of the AR-15 and AR-10 into a hybrid platform.

A truly revolutionary weapon system, the GII is essentially an AR-10 that’s compatible with most AR-15 parts. In fact, all of the parts rear of the magwell are true to AR-15 spec, and can be swapped out with aftermarket M4-style accessories. The rifle also uses a proprietary monolithic bolt carrier group with the same diameter as that of AR-15s.

DPMS has also reduced the dimensions of the forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers, while lengthening the ejection port for improved reliability. To further reduce weight, the barrel profile was also reduced from that of standard .308 Win. barrels.

Why Are Gun Companies Moving?

Mon, 03/03/2014 - 08:13

Since the 1816 founding of Remington Arms in Ilion, New York, the northeastern United States has been the domestic firearm industry’s home for traditional manufacturers such as Colt and Smith & Wesson. Currently, however, an unprecedented number of gun companies are expanding or considering a move to entirely different states.

Why? The most obvious answer is that these companies find it difficult to do business in regions favoring an anti-gun sentiment. Connecticut and New York, both home to large, historic firearms manufacturers, enacted some of the nation’s strictest gun-control regulations last year. The governors of

First Look: Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 380

Thu, 02/27/2014 - 14:51

Smith & Wesson hit the jackpot in 2010 by introducing a compact carry pistol in .380 ACP that integrated a visible laser into the frame. It was dubbed the Bodyguard.

The Bodyguard 380 was received as an instant hit for those looking for an all-in-one deep-carry or backup solution.

The incorporated laser is still a great feature, as it does integrate the laser module and switches directly into the frame. What was normally an aftermarket accessory came standard and was already factored in to the cost of the pistol. The laser greatly assists low-light sighting and

How to Choose Concealed Carry Insurance

Wed, 02/12/2014 - 11:47

Most of us carry at least one insurance policy. Whether that policy covers your home, your car, your health or your life, in most cases you choose to protect yourself against the unexpected.

Most gun owners view our possession of firearms as an insurance policy in itself. A firearm in the nightstand or carried concealed is self-administered insurance against those who could harm us.

But what if the unthinkable happens? If you’re forced to use your firearm in self-defense, what happens in the aftermath of the incident?

We see this scenario play out regularly across the country. A legally armed citizen uses a gun in self-defense, then appears in court to prove that the legal requirements were met to justify using deadly force. When the court rules that the citizen complied with the law a

Read & React: Super Bowl Commercial Hypocrisy?

Fri, 01/31/2014 - 09:00

The AXE Peace commercial previewed on YouTube ahead of its national Super Bowl XLVIII debut illustrates an agenda promoting coexistence among governments that are notorious for various human rights infringements.

This global peace agenda is backed by many politicians, as well as those in the entertainment and national media industries.

In comparison, the same politicos and media outlets will not support companies such as Daniel Defense, a firearms and accessories company in Black Creek, Georgia, to run its commercial, which promotes the constitutionally protected individual right of law-abiding Americans to decide how best to defend themselves.

It is interesting to note that one early reason the Danie
