The Truth About Guns

This is What ‘Commonly Owned’ Means: Americans Have Over 24 Million Modern Sporting Rifles
From the National Shooting Sports Foundation . . .
NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, updated the industry estimate of modern sporting rifles (MSRs) in circulation in the United States to 24,446,000 since 1990. That is an increase of over 4.5 million rifles since the last estimate was released in 2020.
The estimate is derived from NSSF research, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Exportation Report (AFMER) and U.S.
California Keeps Gun Ownership Lower by Overwhelming Citizens With Laws and Regulations
“One of the mechanisms by which California’s laws produce their effect is [that] we have a substantially lower prevalence of firearm ownership in this state than many other states do,” [UC Davis’s Garen J.] Wintemute says. “There are fewer of those tools in circulation…and no surprise, they get used less.”
Studies show that suicides account for more than half of U.S. gun deaths; and not to mention the casualties caused by mass shootings in schools, churches, supermarkets, and other public places.

Sorry Gun-Grabbers, Eli Dicken Really is a Good Samaritan and He Deserves a Medal for Stopping a Mass Shooting
By Lawrence W. Reed
On Sunday evening—July 17, 2022—at the Greenwood Park Mall in Indiana, a gunman opened fire in a food court. He killed three people and wounded two others. He might have murdered many more but for the quick work of a man named Elisjsha Dicken, who pulled out his own gun and blew away the assailant.
Dicken, who was legally carrying a firearm under the state’s constitutional carry law, was hailed as a “Good Samaritan” for saving lives.
Uvalde School Shooting Response Failures Will ‘Set Back Law Enforcement 20 Years’
By Lindsay Whitehurst, AP
A total of 376 officers converged on Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas — more than the entire police force in a midsize American city like Fort Lauderdale, Florida, or Tempe, Arizona. But for more than 70 minutes on May 24, not one stopped the shooter.
Amid the sounds of continuing gunfire emanating from the elementary school they waited. By the time they entered and killed 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, 19 children and two teachers were dead or mortally wounded.
Knock, Knock: Video Shows ATF Straw Purchase Task Force Asking to See Delaware Man’s Guns
By Lee Williams
The homeowner was alerted there were trespassers on his property by motion detectors outside his front door. A live video feed from his doorbell camera showed three armed men wearing tactical vests, t-shirts and jeans. Two appeared to be ATF agents. The third was a Delaware State Police trooper. None wore body cameras.
The homeowner, who did not want his name used in this story, is a small businessman – a law abiding citizen who even ATF acknowledged had done nothing wrong.

Gear Review: The Shield RMSc Micro Red Dot Sight
The micro-compact pistol market has gained lots and lots of steam in recent years. Small guns with higher capacity go a long way, and part of that micro-compact appeal is the modern capabilities they offer. That includes the ability to mount an optic, and without the Shield RMSc red dot sight, the micro-optic market might have stalled out. They took mini red dots and made them micro-sized.
These days companies like Holosun, SIG SAUER, Riton, Crimson Trace and more owe the original Shield RMSc a little credit.

Why Does an Armed Citizen Stopping a Mass Shooter Upset So Many People?
What happened yesterday at the Greenwood Park Mall in suburban Indianapolis was every gun control advocate’s worst nightmare. No, we’re not talking about the obvious horror of a crazed wacko walking into a mall with a rifle and indiscriminately opening fire on innocent people. We’re talking about the reason why the shooting and the casualty count wasn’t far worse than it was.
As has been reported, the shooter, who killed three and wounded two more, was stopped by a 22-year-old man who was carrying a firearm.
BREAKING: Armed Citizen Stops Mass Shooting in Indiana Shopping Mall

Three people were fatally shot and two were injured Sunday evening at an Indiana mall after a man with a rifle opened fire in a food court and an armed civilian shot and killed him, police said.
The man entered the Greenwood Park Mall with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition and began firing in the food court, Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison said.
More Churches, Synagogues Taking Active Measures to Guard Against Attack
By Deepah Bharath and Luis Andres Henao, AP
The Rev. Steven Marsh never thought he would see the day his church in Laguna Woods, California — a town of 16,500 populated largely by retirees — would be spending $20,000 a month for security.
Then a gunman opened fire on May 15 during a luncheon at Geneva Presbyterian Church, where Marsh is senior pastor, killing one and injuring five other members of a Taiwanese congregation that met there.
Another One: Actual Good Guy With a Gun Kills Man on Violent Crime Spree
A St. Louis man on a bathroom break at a QuikTrip [in St. Charles, Missouri] shot and killed an armed robber early Saturday.
Police said the robber was on a “violent crime spree” across three St. Charles gas stations.
The QuikTrip customer, identified only as a 26-year-old man from St. Louis, stopped around 3:20 a.m. at the gas station at 2260 First Capitol Drive to use the restroom and make a purchase, St.
Gear Review: The Flux Raider Chassis for SIG P320 Pistols
What is the Flux Raider? That’s a good question. It’s not a firearm and not exactly a pistol chassis like the Roni. It’s something between a grip module and a pistol chassis designed for the SIG P320 pistols. The Raider comes in SBR and brace variants, and I went with the brace variant. Well, I didn’t. A friend loaned me a Flux Raider and I tossed in my P320C slide to see how it works.

Not Content With Violating the 2nd Amendment, Gavin Newsom is Now Attacking 1st Amendment Rights
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new law to ban firearm advertising “attractive to minors” has criminalized First Amendment freedom of speech. It’s not a law protecting children as the governor frames it.
“Those who are backing this industry can no longer market to our children. The idea that we even have to do this is ridiculous,” Gov. Newsom decried on Twitter. “This law by the way goes into effect immediately.
Uvalde Citizens Slam Mayor’s Criticism of the Media’s Release of School Shooting Video
[Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin] said he agreed the video “needed to be released,” but he complained about the Statesman’s edits to the footage and said the victims families should’ve been the first to see the footage when the city intended to release it.
“That was the most chicken way to put this video out,” McLaughlin said. “Two-thirds of the family or part of their families are in Washington, DC, now, and they’re going to have to turn on the TV and see that tonight?

Press Release: The Black Collar Arms APS – Adjustable Pistol Support – Is Now Available
With ATF angling to crack down on pistol braces but the popularity of large format pistols still at an all-time high, it’s great to see an entirely new category of rear accessory that appears to provide so much utility to owners of large, accurate, highly-capable pistols. Since Black Collar’s APS doesn’t contact the shooter’s body but is, rather, designed as a rear support for resting the gun on a solid surface, ATF’s pistol brace restrictions that are focused on holding a braced pistol one-handed and at arm’s reach don’t appear relevant.
FPC: Continuing to Obstruct the People’s Second Amendment Rights is No Longer an Option
From the Firearms Policy Coalition . . .
Quoting the plurality opinion from McDonald v. Chicago, the Supreme Court held in Bruen that “[t]he constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not ‘a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.’”
To those authorities that process or issue permits to carry concealed weapons that are abrogating the People’s right to carry: Obstructing the People’s fundamental right to an effective self-defense is not an option.
