Sat, 09/25/2021 - 10:00

By Ben Finley, AP

Lawyers for John Hinckley Jr., the man who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, are scheduled to argue in court Monday that the 66-year-old should be freed from restrictions placed on him after he moved out of a Washington hospital in 2016.

Since Hinckley’s move to Williamsburg, Virginia, a federal judge has made him live under various conditions that dictate much of his life.

Bunch: After 18 Months of Pandemic, America Has a Murder Crisis

Sat, 09/25/2021 - 08:00

A couple of things do seem clear. One is that too many Americans are using guns in situations that don’t call for firepower — like moving the gifts at a baby shower, or getting cut off on I-95 — because too many Americans have guns in the first place. That 30% rise in murders happened during a 2020 in which 40 million Americans — a roughly 40% increase — bought guns, and 2021 has seen no slowdown, thanks in part to the Jan.

Fri, 09/24/2021 - 18:00

Yes, yes, the actor who plays “Ron Swanson” is apparently quite (or very) liberal, so you’ll just have to accept the fact that it’s the good ol’ libertarian Ron Swanson character in the meme. The. Meme. Capiche? Here’s the clip from the great comedy that was Parks and Recreation:

Things That Don’t Suck: Olight’s Baldr Pro Tactical Light & Green Laser

Fri, 09/24/2021 - 16:00

We’ve had really good luck with Olight weapons lights in the past. They’re well built, intelligently designed, and priced reasonably. For a good overview, see some of our other posts here, here, and here.

Every other weapon light or light/laser combination we’ve tried has been a USB rechargeable design using Olight’s distinctive magnetic charging cord, but with the new Baldr Pro tactical light with green laser, Olight’s elected to power the unit with a couple of CR123 batteries.

Gun Meme of the Day: A Shot At Kimber Edition

Thu, 09/23/2021 - 18:00

To be fair, I’m not really sure if this is a shot at Kimber or at Wolf Ammo. Those lacquered steel cases definitely aren’t reliable in plenty of guns. Of course, Kimber has a bit of a rep’ of late for being finicky, though I’ve shot a new production Kimber Rapide Black Ice in 9mm quite a bit over the last year and recently reviewed the R7 Mako and both have been rock solid for me.

The Gun Control Industry and the Media Can’t (or Won’t) Seem to Stomach the Chipman Defeat

Thu, 09/23/2021 - 13:00

By Larry Keane

The truth is sometimes a bitter pill to swallow. That’s become apparent after several media outlets examined why David Chipman couldn’t gain support in the U.S. Senate to be confirmed as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The media believed Chipman was the cure-all to push gun control. He was their gun control medicine man – a shaman who would usher in the gun control fix.

Fourth Circuit Reverses Ruling That a Ban on Gun Sales to Adults Under 21 is Unconstitutional

Thu, 09/23/2021 - 10:00

In July, a Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled that banning sales of firearms to adults under 21 is clearly unconstitutional. The ruling noted that “Our nation’s most cherished constitutional rights vest no later than 18. And the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms is no different.”

That was then. This is now.

Now, the plaintiffs in the case, Tanner Hirschfeld and Natalia Marshall, are both 21 years old.

ACLU: We Need to Restrict the Second Amendment to Preserve the First

Thu, 09/23/2021 - 08:00

The America Civil Liberties Union, which has never been able to count to ten and remember to include number two, is apparently unaware that more than 40 states have either shall-issue or some form of constitutional (permitless) concealed carry laws. And somehow the Americans who live in those states have full access to and use of their First Amendment rights.

New York’s restriction on public carry serves the state’s profound constitutional commitment to free expression — one that exceeds the United States Constitution and has made the state a cultural center for the nation and the world.

Biden Administration Files Supreme Court Brief Supporting New York’s May Issue Gun Control Law

Wed, 09/22/2021 - 08:00

New York’s longstanding proper-cause requirement does not violate the Second Amendment.

A. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms, but that right is not absolute. For centuries, legislatures in England, the colonies, and the States have protected public safety by adopting reasonable regulations governing who may possess weapons, which weapons they may possess, where and when weapons may be carried, and how they may be manufactured, sold, and stored.
