The Truth About Guns

Gun Violence Archive Logs ‘Non-Violent’ Incidents as ‘Gun Violence’
The Gun Violence Archive stands as the favorite go-to resource for anti-gun reporters and politicians to draw on statistics about violence committed with firearms. However, the truth must not be sensational enough for them. So what does the GVA do to whip up emotions? By their own reporting, they’re including very “non-violent” incidents as “Gun Violence” in their “school shootings” category.
If their cause was righteous and noble, why do they have to lie?
Federal Court Strikes Down Pennsylvania’s Young Adult Emergency Carry Ban
A federal court has thrown out Pennsylvania’s law banning young adults ages 18 to 20 years old from carrying firearms during a declared emergency.
On Jan. 18, a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, based in Philadelphia, by a 2-to-1 vote ruled the ban to be unconstitutional under the new standards prescribed by the 2022 Supreme Court ruling in Bruen.
“We understand that a reasonable debate can be had over allowing young adults to be armed, but the issue before us is a narrow one,” U.S.
Lessons For Gun Owners From The DOJ Uvalde Response Report
A few days ago, the Department of Justice released their report on the response to the Uvalde shooting in 2022. While we aren’t all working for public safety or emergency management agencies, there are a few important lessons we should all take away from the report. I’ll cover some of the more important ones, but if you do work for an agency, you’d better read the whole thing without skimming!
Before I get into the lessons, let’s get one big thing out of the way: the report didn’t say that semi-automatic rifles should be banned.

Hi-Point gives their .380 ACP the Yeet Treatment
MKS Supply is giving their Hi-Point .380 ACP a yeet into the new year. No, they aren’t chucking their .380s out of the line, rather they’re giving it the full Yeet Cannon treatment with the release of the YC380. This will add a threaded barrel, the new style grips, reshaped slide with optics mounting options and the Glock style replaceable front sight, as well as a double stack 10-round magazine. MSRP is still a very reasonable $229, and they’re covered by Hi-Point’s lifetime warranty.

Mexico’s Lack Of Gun Rights Is Creating A Real Mess For The U.S.
As we all know, there’s a big damned mess on the U.S. border right now. The State of Texas is trying its hardest to keep people from unlawfully crossing the Rio Grande, but to do so, they’re fighting the federal government. In other places, including Arizona, record numbers of people are crossing or attempting to cross, and they’re mostly not being stopped by federal authorities. So, border states have been bussing and flying migrants to “sanctuary cities” to let them deal with the problem.
Alec Baldwin Indicted on Involuntary Manslaughter Charges in New Mexico
Alec Baldwin’s set on the Western movie “Rust,” was reportedly plagued with all manner of mishaps and safety violations including multiple negligent discharges. Ultimately, prosecutors say those culminated in Baldwin, a big supporter of gun control for the little people, firing a shot that killed a 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded Baldwin’s director.
Baldwin claims the “prop” gun on the Rust film set that was loaded “with blanks” “misfired.”
There’s even video out there of Baldwin practicing his pistolero skills.
Mossberg Introduces 590 and 940 Pro Thunder Ranch Shotguns
Mossberg has released a slew of new shotguns for 2024 but two that caught my eye are the Thunder Ranch editions designed in conjunction with Clint Smith, from Thunder Ranch, the famed firearms training facility in Southern Oregon. The Mossberg 590 and 940 Pro Thunder Ranch Shotguns build on the proven Mossberg platform and add features with input from Clint and his staff. Notable things are the Patriot Brown Cerakote finishes, optics-ready receivers, fiber-optic front sights and reduced length of pull stocks.

Obscure Object of Desire – VZ 70
I’ve always wanted a Walther PPK in .32 ACP. They are neat little guns but haven’t been made or imported in what seems like forever. James Bond is always associated with the PPK, and the PPK is always associated with the .380. However, it bears mentioning that the original Bond PPK was a .32 ACP. According to Q, it hit like a brick through a plate glass window. Sadly, the .32 ACP PPKs are expensive.

Taiwan’s Civilians Prepare To Fight…With Airsoft
A recent video from The Guardian features interviews with several civil defense activists in Taiwan who want to better prepare their people for an invasion. But, Taiwan’s government officials clearly need to get over their fear of armed civilians for this to do the most good.
Let’s first take a look at the video (article continues afterward):
While the country’s government doesn’t allow civilians to possess firearms, there are some very committed people trying to do as much as they can with what they can get.

All Luck Buck: A Trip from the Range Turns Into a Quick Hunt for a Trophy Deer of a Lifetime
I’d spent almost every single minute of daylight shooting out to the limit of the range on my property. I’d gotten tons of solid data on new loads, zeroed some scopes, broke in a new .300 Win. Mag., and even got to shoot my new SSK-50 pistol out to half a mile. The weather was perfect, and the lack of cell reception made it even better. A great day done, the sun touched the horizon and I headed to the house.
Kansas Lawmakers Push To Strengthen 2A Rights
While legislators in many states are waging an all-out assault on their citizens’ right to keep and bear arms, Kansas lawmakers are working to bolster those rights.
House Concurrent Resolution 5020, currently under consideration in a state House committee, would amend the Kansas State Constitution to expand coverage of the state’s already strong right to bear arms protection. With more than 60 lawmakers listed as authors, the measure would clarify that the existing constitutional right would also include firearm components, accessories and ammunition, and specify that any future restrictions enacted would be subject to strict scrutiny by the courts.

Things That Don’t Suck: Streamlight Wedge XT Rechargeable EDC Light
I’ve been carrying a Streamlight Wedge for the past couple of years as my primary EDC light. It’s a great light. It’s flat, and it has a pocket clip so it carries much like a folding knife in your pocket. It puts out a very usable 300 lumens of light for routine use and has a a 1,000 lumen “Thro” setting for shorter burst when you need to put more light onto something.
Gun Owners From Everywhere Need To Show Up in New Mexico February 3rd
If you live in New Mexico, or even if you like to visit New Mexico, I encourage everyone who can to show up at an important gun rights rally on February 3. Residents of the state find themselves in a similar situation to the one Virginia faced in 2020, and it’s a disease that can spread nationally if we don’t stamp it out now.
Looking Back To Just Before The Pandemic
In late 2019, gun owners saw something unprecedented happen.
Chicks Dig the Gun & Other Fun Findings from the NSSF’s Latest Shooting Participation Report
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) just released their annual Firearm Ownership & Sport Shooting Participation in the U.S. report with stats from 2022. And while the mainstream media and anti-gunners would try to argue that gun rights groups and pro-freedom politicians are out of touch with the desires of mainstream America, the report revealed that is anything but the case. Indeed, the report reveals a sizable 24.1 percent growth of adult participation in sport shooting in America between 2009 to 2022.
Aimpoint Announces the Release of the New Acro S-2 Sight
Aimpoint just announced a new red dot that’s to be released at the SHOT Show next week. The Acro S-2 is designed for use on shotguns with a vent rib. It’s geared toward bird and small game hunters and sporting clays shooters. Being that it attaches right to the vent rib (using a variety of optics plates) you can use it with your existing shotgun; you don’t need a new optics-ready one. As I crept past the age of 50 and started seeing my iron sights turn fuzzy, I’ve really come to appreciate how much a red-dot sight can help.

State AGs Oppose California Mag Ban
When the top law enforcement officers from half of the United States band together to make their voices known on an important topic, it’s kind of a big deal.
Recently, attorneys general from 25 states filed an amicus brief against California’s unconstitutional law banning standard-capacity firearms magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition. According to a news release issued by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, the coalition of AGs filed the brief in Duncan v.

NRA Finds Constitutional Friends Amid Legal Woes
If you read everything in the news of late and even talk to some gun rights supporters, you know NRA has been having a host of fits on a number of legal and organizational fronts and have quite a few forces aligned against them even from within the gun community. New York Attorney General Letitia James has tried to force the organization to be disbanded and failing in that effort has continued to move forward with a trial designed to topple the organization’s leadership based on charges of widespread corruption and malfeasance of NRA funds for personal gains.

Police Need To Train For Longer Rifle Shots
In a recent article, I shared a lot of disturbing information about the Uvalde response. We already knew that the police had dropped the ball, and badly, but seeing all of the information put together really revealed all of the failings. One of the biggest ones was that there was an opportunity to put the shooter down before he had entered the building, but according to an investigative report, a police officer paused to ask for permission to shoot instead of taking the shot because it was further away than the 100 yards the officer normally trained to shoot at.

Ruger Announces the MAX-9 9mm, Now with a 4-Inch Barrel
January is always a big month for new releases with the annual SHOT Show coming up. There are usually some surprises at the show, but a lot of companies start dropping new products early so that folks going to the show know to come check them out. Ruger just did that with the latest version of the MAX-9, now with a 4-inch barrel. The short grip frame and longer barrel and sight radius setup is popular with concealed carry folks since it gives you a gun that’s easier to conceal but that shoots more like a full-sized pistol.

Chicago Public School Safe Passage Worker Sentenced For Selling Drugs & Gun On Way to Job
Miguel Morales was arrested last year for selling drugs and a gun to undercover cops while on his way to work as a Chicago Public Schools “Safe Passage” worker. Morales, despite a sordid criminal history including a murder conviction, somehow picked up a gig as a “Safe Passage” worker with the Chicago Public Schools.
I called the CPS Public Information line at the time of Morales’ arrest in my capacity as the Executive Director of Guns Save Life.
