A new study conducted by the Center for Justice Research in partnership with Bowling Green State University found contrary to concerns by left-leaning politicians that gun crime has indeed gone down—not up—in six of the state’s eight largest cities since the state passed permitless carry in June 2022.

According to 19 News, the study focused on crimes involving firearms, verified gunshot detection alerts and the number of police officers struck by gunfire. The study found:

Indy Homeowner Kills Intruder John Wick-Style

Fri, 01/05/2024 - 12:00

In a true-life example of life imitating art, an Indianapolis homeowner went into full on John Wick-mode Tuesday (Jan. 2) when an intruder forced his way into his home in an attempted robbery gone wrong—at least for the intruder and his accomplices. A short while after being released without charges, the homeowner spoke to Fox59 in Indy and told them how events played out, explaining it was his only option to survive.

“He smacked me in the head with a gun and told me I knew what it was and then I yelled out he’s trying to rob me,” said Brent Smith.

Oregon Measure 114 Ruled Unconstitutional…Again

Fri, 01/05/2024 - 09:00

Measure 114, the controversial gun control law passed by voters by a narrow margin in November 2022 has again been ruled unconstitutional by Harney County Court Judge Robert Raschio.

Disingenuously dubbed the Reduction of Gun Violence Act, Measure 114 would impact legal gun ownership in Oregon in multiple ways including:

  • Requiring gun buyers to apply with the police requesting permission to buy a firearm and the police would have to approve whether that person could buy the gun or not.

Grand Jury: No Charges For Defensive Shooting In Houston Taqueria

Fri, 01/05/2024 - 07:00

About a year ago, a man in Houston made an extremely dumb decision: to pull out a realistic looking but fake gun and rob people eating at a local taco restaurant. He didn’t know that one of the diners had a pistol, and the moment he turned his back to threaten other diners, he got a severe case of sudden onset lead poisoning.

But, contrary to the advice of most instructors, the man kept shooting.

Thu, 01/04/2024 - 14:30

The newest Smith & Wesson pistol in the Military & Police (M&P) line-up is the most unique. The pistol chambers the .22 Magnum cartridge. It is old hat these days to test a reliable .22 Long Rifle. Dirty powder and heel-based bullets aside the M&P .22 KelTec P 17 and Taurus TX 22 run fine. The .22 Magnum has been mastered as well. Smith & Wesson has created a fun gun of the first order.

Constitutional Carry: Can We Reach 30 States In 2024?

Thu, 01/04/2024 - 14:00

As we enter 2024, it’s interesting to note that more than half of the states in the union now have a “permitless” or  constitutional carry law on the books. Yes, you read that right: Lawful Americans in 27 states can now carry a concealed firearm for defense of themselves and their families without jumping through government hoops, navigating endless red tape and paying a fee to practice their Second Amendment rights.

That’s obviously a good thing, as the founders never intended for lawful citizens to have to ask the government for permission to keep and bear arms.

Fast Food Employee Serves Defensive Dose of Lead

Thu, 01/04/2024 - 10:00

While Taco Bell’s slogan may be Live Mas (Live More), a would-be robber almost got the chance to live a lot less when he strolled into an Akron, Ohio, location and found at least one employee to be anything less than an easy pushover to rob.

According to a 19 News (Cleveland) report, witnesses told police an armed man strolled into the Taco Bell in an attempt to rob the restaurant and fired shots at an employee.

2023 Gun Sales 4th Highest Since Records Kept

Thu, 01/04/2024 - 07:45

Total firearms sold at retail in 2023 might not have topped the Covid pandemic-inspired years of 2020 and 2021, but they were still strong enough to make last year the fourth highest total since records have been kept.

Background check numbers provided by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) totaled 15.8 million in 2023, bolstered by a strong December figure that was up 1.6% from December 2022. Incredibly, December 2023 marks the fifty-third straight month that background checks have exceeded the 1 million mark.

Anti-Gunners Are Playing Lucy Ball, and It Could Destroy The Peace

Wed, 01/03/2024 - 14:00

In the last few weeks, we’ve covered a lot of news where it was clear that government officials had no intention of even trying to do the right thing. Let’s review a few of those real quick.

Disingenuous Actions Taken Against Guns

For one, there’s the gun control group in New Mexico that committed multiple felonies, despite being warned by BATFE that they had to properly destroy firearms to avoid breaking all of these laws.

Causey: Remember, Don’t Shoot Into the Sky on New Years

Wed, 01/03/2024 - 12:00

When the clock struck midnight, gunshots rang out in my neighborhood and many others across southeastern Wisconsin as the calendar turned to 2024.

We live off 39th and Capitol Drive, and gunfire ranged from the small pop of a .22 caliber round to the rapid-fire succession of a Glock.

While I understand the need to celebrate the New Year, hearing so much gunfire for so long is unnerving.

Hammered in Georgia

Tue, 01/02/2024 - 12:00

Georgia gun owner Kimberly Wright was involved in a road rage incident in August 2021 where an aggressive driver followed her to a Walmart parking lot and attempted to attack her with a hammer. When Wright, who had a permit to carry and was also a member of U.S. LawShield, removed her firearm from her purse, the assailant fled the scene. Matt Kilgo, an Independent Program Attorney for U.S. LawShield, answered Wright’s call following the incident, and with her attorney’s guidance, she spoke with the police and an arrest warrant was issued for the driver who attacked her.

Ruger Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the 10/22 Rifle with a Slick New 10/22 Variation

Tue, 01/02/2024 - 10:00

In some ways it’s hard to believe that the Ruger 10/22 has been around for 60 years already, but on the other hand I grew up shooting one, and while I’m not quite that old myself, I’m closer to it than not! I expected the anniversary edition to be a wood stock with some fancy, maybe gold inlaid engraving or something, but it’s actually a really slick, practical looking rifle. Nothing wrong with commemorative guns, but I prefer something that I’ll want to take out and use, and the 60th anniversary gun is just that.

Indiana Road Rage Incident Ends with Lessons We Can All Learn From [VIDEO]

Tue, 01/02/2024 - 07:00

A road range incident in Ft. Wayne, Indiana last fall escalated to shots fired, with the primary aggressor punching out another motorist’s driver’s side window. As the hot-tempered window puncher wound up to continue the attack upon the red van’s driver, that driver fired his Ruger .380 pistol three times. Two of the rounds found their mark on the guy who broke the window, while the third hit a passing motorist.

Police initially charged the man who fired with a felony.

Do I Need a Permit in a State with Constitutional Carry?

Mon, 01/01/2024 - 16:30

We can already feel the hackles going up on the backs of many of our readers as they read that headline with the resounding “Oh, hell no!” sounding off louder than last night’s cheers of “Happy New Year!” But here’s some food for thought, bear with us…

In the United States, the term “constitutional carry” (also known as permitless carry, unrestricted carry or Vermont carry) refers to the legal public carrying of a firearm, either openly or concealed, without a license or permit.

Mon, 01/01/2024 - 14:00

A flooring company crew was installing a hardwood floor inside a second-floor condominium in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in October when a woman who lived downstairs called the police around 8:30 a.m. complaining about the noise they were making. When the police arrived, according to WAVY 10 News, they told the woman they couldn’t stop the men because they weren’t doing anything wrong performing the job at the time they were working.

According to the flooring company owner, the woman returned after police left and told the crew she was going to call somebody else who would do something about the noise.

Did You Break the Law this Christmas?

Mon, 01/01/2024 - 11:00

Ok, it may feel a little late for this one, but the lights are still twinkling on the tree in a number of homes and when it comes to being smarter about gun laws, is it ever really too late?

Everyone knows the plot line behind 1983’s A Christmas Story, where the main character Ralphie Parker wants nothing less than a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. The whole “you’ll shoot your eye out, kid,” storyline aside, guns have always been an optimal gifting choice among shooting and hunting families in America.

Moving On

Sun, 12/31/2023 - 14:00

A quick search of TTAG’s library of just under 49,000 published posts shows that my first article here went up back in April of 2011. It was about the first-term hire of a “gun policy” advisor by then-President Barack Obama.

You probably remember him. Obama was the guy who would go on to be crowned as America’s greatest gun salesman. Ah, the good ol’ days. Little did we know back then that the ostensible President who’s now completing Obama’s third term would make The Lightbringer look like a piker by comparison.
