California, Where Even Reading About Guns is Banned

Tue, 07/11/2023 - 13:00

Meanwhile in California, pornographic books are apparently just fine for K-12 school libraries, but periodicals about firearms are adults-only restricted material everywhere in the state. This is a shocking level of book banning!

This is actually nothing new. Cal-unicorn-ia had effectively banned images of handguns in public spaces for a full century. That blatant First Amendment violation was overturned by a federal judge only a few years ago as part of a lawsuit filed against our current, uncontrollably cackling Vice President who was then the AG of CA.

Smith & Wesson’s New 30+1 M&P22 MAGNUM Chambered in .22 WMR

Tue, 07/11/2023 - 07:07

Here’s something we didn’t see coming. Smith & Wesson’s latest addition to their popular M&P line is chambered in .22 WMR. It’s a full-size pistol with a 5-inch barrel, internally hammer-fired, fiber optic sights, and yes, it’s optic-ready. It also hold thirty — that’s 30 — plus one rounds. It’s a shame the barrel isn’t threaded, but we’d guess that option is coming.

Here’s their press release and some specs . . .

Gun Meme of the Day: Brace Yourself Edition

Mon, 07/10/2023 - 18:00

The government: “this accessory is bad because it allows the shooter to indiscriminately ‘spray’ bullets.”

Also the government: “this accessory is bad because it allows the shooter to more accurately place bullets.”

It’s almost as though they just don’t like the citizenry owning guns.

Law Enforcement Report Reveals the Failure of the Washington’s Gun Control Laws

Mon, 07/10/2023 - 16:00

From the CCRKBA . . .

A new report released Monday by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) offers ample evidence that two extremist gun control initiatives, along with additional legislation pushed by Democrat lawmakers has failed miserably, and should be repealed, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“WASPC data released Monday showing a 96 percent increase in homicides since 2019 is damning proof that billionaire-backed gun control measures were, as we predicted, false pie-in-the-sky promises,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

ATF Investigators SWEAR They Didn’t Know Michael Cargill Was Suing The Agency When They Audited His Gun Store

Mon, 07/10/2023 - 14:00

Question: If you’re an individual who’s suing a federal regulatory agency and that agency then knocks on your door to conduct an audit of your business operations, is it reasonable to conclude that the two events are connected? Would it be fair to suspect the agency of trying to harass the plaintiff who’s been challenging their rulemaking…and winning?

That’s exactly what’s happened to Michael Cargill who owns Central Texas Gun Works in south Austin.

Reeves: The Bruen Ruling Cedes Too Much Power to the ‘Dead Hand of the Past’

Mon, 07/10/2023 - 08:00

In District of Columbia v. Heller, the 2008 case finding that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to bear arms, the court asserted that “nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on long-standing prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill.” In concurring opinions in Bruen, Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Brett M. Kavanaugh made similar assurances.

Other courts — the government cited 120 post-Bruen cases — have relied on that to find the federal ban on felons possessing firearms passes constitutional muster.

Why Doesn’t .45 Colt Get More Love These Days?

Sun, 07/09/2023 - 16:00

Much like .45-70, .30-06 and other OG cartridges, the .45 Colt — AKA .45 Long Colt — is an old cartridge design, dating back more than a century. When the round was first invented, it was propelled by black powder. In fact, much of today’s .45 Colt ammunition still is since one of the most popular uses for it is cowboy action shooting.

That’s probably the most popular use of most pistols chambered in the .45 Colt these days, as reproductions of Colt Single Action Army, S&W Model 3, cartridge-converted Remington New Model Army and Colt Open Top pistols are quite popular for the CAS crowd and general collecting.

EDC: Do You (Always) Carry the Fundamental Four?

Sun, 07/09/2023 - 10:00

Friend of TTAG Paul Markel, who’s well known for his Student of the Gun platform, relays the story of a friend who was running late, trying to get his kid to school. The friend dashed out of the house to take his progeny to the local knowledge dissemination facility…when he ran into a potentially deadly situation. Fortunately, it ended without incident.

We’ve all done it. We hop in the car to run a quick errand, leaving home base without our usual complement of EDC gear.

OSD: Gun Control Is a 1911, Gun Rights Are a GLOCK

Sun, 07/09/2023 - 08:00

[The video above is] a good watch generally, and we want to zoom in on a particular aspect. At 6:54, Isaac explains why Glock’s critical innovation that changed the entire industry is … the slide stop.

Hang on. The slide stop is a tiny piece of metal, and shouldn’t affect a gun’s overall design or manufacturing process.

But that’s exactly the point.

Situational Awareness: San Antonio Man Shoots Two Who Tried to Rob Him While Using an ATM

Sat, 07/08/2023 - 13:00

There are few places where people are more vulnerable — and generally less aware of their surroundings — than when they’re using an ATM. They tend to focus on the screen and completing their transaction and usually come away with a fist full of cash. They’re not always aware what or who may be nearby waiting to take advantage of a potentially juicy target.

Staking out and targeting ATM users happens often enough that the tactic has acquired its own name: jugging.

[I]n the end, it doesn’t matter, because guns won. Household ownership went from 33% a decade ago to 47% after 2020. Every lockdown, every shutdown, every ACAB, every police defunding, every vax mandate, and every claim that either candidate was Hitler caused more guns to be sold.

Taurus Announces the New TH45 DA/SA .45 ACP Pistol

Fri, 07/07/2023 - 16:00

Taurus is best known for its striker-fired line of 9mm pistols and a pretty extensive line of revolvers. Less well-known is their line of polymer, hammer-fired semi-autos for those who aren’t striker-fired fans.

The TH (full-size) and THC (compact) line of DA/SA guns was only offered in 9mm and .40 S&W. Until now. That’s changed with the introduction of a big-bore, full-size .45 ACP version for those who like the DA/SA action and all of the versatility that offers.

No Letting Up: The Biden Administration Presses On With His War Against Gun Makers and Owners

Fri, 07/07/2023 - 14:00

From the CCRKBA . . .

President Joe Biden appears more determined than ever to make gun manufacturers vulnerable to frivolous lawsuits in the hopes of bankrupting the firearms industry, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

On July 4—a day when the president should be leading the nation in celebrating its 247th anniversary—Biden was instead capitalizing on violent crimes over the holiday weekend in an effort to push his gun prohibition agenda.

Zero Tolerance Chronicles: Biden’s ATF-Driven War On Guns Continues Apace

Fri, 07/07/2023 - 10:00

Don’t believe for a minute that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms’ (ATF) ‘zero-tolerance’ policy isn’t real or is some “right-wing conspiracy.” The first nine months of statistics are in and the Biden administration is doing exactly what it said it would. President Joe Biden and his White House advisors are using the ATF as a blunt instrument to hobble the firearm industry.

So far in 2023, ATF has conducted 6,609 inspections of Federal Firearms Licensees – starting on Oct.

How to Stay Safe When You’re Out on the Trail — Carry A Gun

Thu, 07/06/2023 - 16:00

By David Liberman

The woods are, for the most part, pretty darn safe. You can spend every weekend hiking through areas “infested” with dangerous wildlife, and see nothing more than a snowshoe hare or a mule deer. But Lady Luck is a fickle wench and there’s always at least a small chance that you’ll run into something — or someone — that wants to take a peek inside you.

This is the time a lot of people are getting out There are as many strategies for deep woods self-protection as there are pic-a-nic baskets in Jellystone Park, so the first order of the day is to know your adversary.

The Future of Pistol Silencers

Thu, 07/06/2023 - 12:00

Conventional wisdom dictates that semi-automatic pistols without fixed barrels (i.e. ones with some flavor of short recoil operated system) require a Nielsen device or “booster” to function with a silencer attached to the barrel. Without a booster the mass — the inertia — of the silencer hinders the barrel’s rearward movement under recoil and the pistol doesn’t reliably cycle.

Well, conventional wisdom sucks and the future of pistol suppressors is boosterless.

Make a silencer light enough — under approximately five ounces — and it’ll run without a Nielsen device.

BREAKING: Florida Streets Not Ankle-Deep in Blood After Permitless Carry Becomes Law

Thu, 07/06/2023 - 10:00

By Lee Williams

There have been no Wild West-style shootouts. Floridians are not shooting each other over parking spots as some tediously predicted. No fistfights have escalated into gunfights, and most assuredly, the streets are not running red with blood.

On July 1, Florida became the 26th state – the majority state – to offer residents and visitors some form of permitless concealed carry. Since then, none of the gun-banners’ bloody, end-of-the-world predictions have come true – not one.
