Tue, 10/17/2023 - 12:00

The annual State Fair of Texas is currently under way at Fair Park fairgrounds just east of Dallas. It’s big — as you’d expect the Texas state fair to be — with lots to see and do and the event attracts thousands every year. Saturday night was no exception as the park was packed when a shooting took place, prompting crowds to scurry.

Israel Further Relaxes Restrictions Making 400,000 More People Eligible for Gun Ownership

Tue, 10/17/2023 - 10:00

Following the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7, the powers that be in Israel reconsidered the advisability of their strict gun control laws and announced an easing of the restrictions over civilian gun ownership. It seems that 1300 dead bodies and a looming war was enough to finally convince them of the benefits of an armed populace.

Now Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has further expanded the number of people who are eligible for gun ownership.

New York Bill Would Require a Background Check Before Buying a 3D Printer

Tue, 10/17/2023 - 08:00

New York residents eyeing a new 3D printer may soon have to submit a criminal background check if a newly proposed state bill becomes law. The recently introduced legislation, authored by state senator Jenifer Rajkumar, aims to snub out an increasingly popular loophole where convicted felons who would otherwise be prohibited from legally buying a firearm instead simply 3D print individual components to create an untraceable “ghost gun.” If passed, New York would join a growing body of states placing restrictions on 3D printers in the name of public safety.

Personal Defense Tip: Just Say No To Warning Shots

Mon, 10/16/2023 - 13:00

In a perfect world, everyone would know not to fire warning shots. Unfortunately, Hollywood has made them almost part of our cultural lexicon. But don’t fall for Hollywood “training” on self-defense when it comes to warning shots. Or pretty much anything else for that matter.

Why not keep the warning shot in your toolbox should you have an opportunity to employ it?

Make no mistake…discharging your firearm in a confrontation will constitute use of “deadly force” to police and prosecutors.

Anti-Gun Democrats’ Luxury Beliefs are Getting People Killed

Mon, 10/16/2023 - 11:00

By Rob Morse

I confess this bothers me. So much for being an objective chronicler of the facts, but a majority of Democrat Attorneys General told the court that you need to be disarmed. Once again, they said it’s vitally important that the state disarm honest citizens who obey the law.

Let me underscore that so there’s no misunderstanding. Government elites demand the right to put you and your family at greater risk.

Franklin Armory’s G-S173 Binary Trigger and Slide for GLOCK 17 Gen3 Pistols is Go

Mon, 10/16/2023 - 07:00

Last year Jeremy and I got to shoot a prototype of Franklin’s G-S173 binary trigger for the GLOCK 17. A good time was had by all. It worked and worked well.

It’s been a long time since that January, 2022 range day and in the mean time, Franklin Armory’s been working on the G-S173 and perfecting it. Now, it’s ready for prime time.

Franklin Armory’s put a lot of work into refining the G-S173 since we shot that prototype.

Gear Review: Champion Workhorse Electronic Trap

Sun, 10/15/2023 - 16:00

Busting clays is a blast (no pun intended)! But if you’ve used one of those spring-loaded manual traps or the hand-held plastic whip things, you know the definition of frustration. Traditionally, electronic traps have been too large, heavy, and expensive for casual clay busters, but Champion’s Workhorse Electronic Trap has set out to change that.

Weighing in at only 32 pounds, the Workhorse is easy enough for one person to schlep from home to car and car to range.

How To Custom Dye Your Polymer Gun Parts

Sat, 10/14/2023 - 13:00

Over the last couple years I have featured a couple of AR builds here at TTAG and elsewhere that had Russian Bakelite colored stocks and mags. Some people really loved the look of them and I have subsequently found some of my images “borrowed” and used on social media by others.

Over that time I’ve been asked just where and how I got such cool colors so, let’s get to it . .

Why is Florida Still Enforcing Gun Control Laws That Clearly Fail the Bruen Test?

Sat, 10/14/2023 - 10:00

By Lee Williams

On Sept. 15 at around 10:15 p.m., Olaf Brurberg Andersen IV, was drinking Coors Light inside Pete’s Bar in Neptune Beach, Florida, when a police officer approached him.

The Neptune Beach Police officer told Andersen someone had seen a handgun in his waistband. A Florida statute still on the books prohibits carrying a concealed firearm inside a tavern. The officer escorted the 24-year-old outside the bar, read him the Miranda Warning and began a field interrogation.

What Semi-Auto Pistol Would You Feel Comfortable Hiding on Top of a Pizza?

Fri, 10/13/2023 - 16:00

Lots of routine traffic stops result in arrests for more serious violations. Take, for instance, what happened early Tuesday morning in Rosamond, California. “Deputies patrolling the area of 30th Street West and Old Country Way in Rosamond stopped a vehicle for simple vehicle code violations. The driver, 47 year old Danny Carson, had a misdemeanor warrant and was on PRCS (post-release community service) for weapons violations.”

Already a bad start, and as your mother always said, nothing good happens after midnight.

Late Breaking News: ATF out of control! pic.twitter.com/dymMEDLVv8

— Dudley Brown (@dudleywbrown) October 13, 2023

When the ATF targeted Rare Breed Triggers in 2021, makers of forced-reset triggers that ATF had magically designated as machine guns, they scooped up the company’s customer list. That’s given them the ability to go around the country confiscating the triggers from people who lawfully purchased them before the agency waived its regulatory wand and reclassified them.

The people who have been marching in support of the Palestinian terrorists who butchered more than 1,200 men, women, and children in Israel over the weekend may be doing and saying vile things in support of some of the worst people on the face of the Earth, but the Constitution protects their right to do so.

Lesson From Israel – If You Get Comfortable With Your Enemy, You’re Dead

Fri, 10/13/2023 - 08:00

There’s a Substack colum that I read occasionally called Weapons and Strategy and it’s written by Steven Bryen. And in his commentary on the Israeli attacks, the very end of his commentary, he came out with two points. And these are two points I think are very specifically germane to us here, once again, in the self-defense landscape in the United States.

The first is, relying just on deterrence is a huge mistake.

Government Covid Tax Dollar Give-Aways Fueled the Illegal Black Market for Guns

Thu, 10/12/2023 - 16:00

By Mark Oliva

America can add one more lingering effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. Easy access to government funds fueled fraudulent claims that heated up the illicit black market of firearms, especially by criminal gangs and illegal drug networks. In other words, it wasn’t the lawful sale of a record number of firearms in 2020 and 2021 that was responsible for crime. It was government tax dollar giveaways without guardrails that criminals co-opted.

The 5 Best Shooting Drills to Make the Most of Your Range Time

Thu, 10/12/2023 - 14:00

Firearms drills are an absolute blast. They sharpen your skills, give you a challenge at the range and can change the way you think about shooting and self-defense. They can also be an eye-opener, and a means to evaluate your skills. So without further distraction, here are my five favorite firearms training drills.

The El Presidente

The El Presidente is a classic firearms training drill created by Jeff Cooper. The exercise utilizes three targets, a handgun, a holster, a shot timer, and an extra magazine and magazine pouch.

Classic Gun Review: Belgian Browning Hi-Power Mk I

Thu, 10/12/2023 - 12:00

The Belgian made FN Browning  Hi-Power pistol ranks as one of my favorite side arms of all time. I appreciate the gun for its history, as well as its practical use. I’ve bought, shot the heck out of, and then sold many of mine to friends who just couldn’t live without one after shooting them.

That process had left me in the shameful state of not having one around for the last few years.
