Honoring Those Who Gave Their Lives to Protect Our Freedoms

Mon, 05/29/2023 - 10:00

For some, Memorial Day is the kickoff of summer. Vacations are planned, backyard grilling and warm days with friends and family are in the works. It’s also a day of honoring those who gave their lives in service to our nation so we can enjoy our freedoms.

We, the firearm industry, pause to honor these men and women. We also rededicate ourselves to living lives worthy of their sacrifice. We mourn the loss but we celebrate that we had men and women such as these among us, even if it was for a short time.

Memorial Day Isn’t a Day of Mourning, It’s a Day of Commemoration

Mon, 05/29/2023 - 08:00

I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.

Things That Don’t Suck: Xtech Tactical MTX 365 +3 Magazine Extension for P365

Sun, 05/28/2023 - 16:00

The main draw of the Xtech Tactical MTX 365 +3 baseplate for your SIG SAUER P365 is the same draw of the P365 itself. In 2018 SIG hit the concealed carry market with a sledgehammer and all but killed the single stack 9mm pistol in one foul blow. Now everyone wants a micro-compact and just about everyone makes one.

Shooters and concealed carriers appreciate the small size and decent capacity the guns offers.

Inside ‘The Vault’ of the National Museum of the Marine Corps

Sun, 05/28/2023 - 13:00

By Mark Oliva

Memorial Day holds special meaning to the firearms industry. Like nearly all Americans, we pause to remember and honor those whose lives were sacrificed defending our freedoms.

For firearms manufacturers, the small arms the fallen carried into battle remind us of the unique connection of those in uniform and our industry.

There’s a collection of these firearms that has special meaning to Marines tucked away in a nondescript brick building at Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Desert Tech: Bullpup Rifles That Defy Bullpup Stereotypes

Sun, 05/28/2023 - 10:00

Bullpups don’t always get a lot of love for reasons most people who’ve shot them already know. First and foremost, their triggers are uniformly awful. That’s because of all the linkage required between the trigger itself and the sear that’s located all the way back behind the magazine…which is under your chin.

That magazine placement results in the second biggest gripe bullpup detractors have: slow and awkward magazine changes. Those two factors — not to mention the fact that bullpups are generally heavier — are a lot to overcome, even though the bullpup design has a lot going for it, primarily its wonderfully compact overall length and the resulting excellent maneuverability that gives you.

Fifth Circuit Clarifies That Pistol Brace Injunction Covers Named Plaintiffs and All FPC Members

Sat, 05/27/2023 - 13:00

Earlier this week, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued an injunction blocking enforcement of the ATF’s pistol brace ban until the case can be decided. But as Jeremy pointed out in our earlier post, the order only applied to the named plaintiffs in the suit.

The Firearms Policy Coalition, one of those named plaintiffs, petitioned the court for clarification and yesterday, they got it. The injunction does, in fact, only cover the plaintiffs in the suit.

Guns Rights and Marijuana Use: The Times May Finally Be A-Changin’

Fri, 05/26/2023 - 16:00

By: C.D. Michel

In a 2021 article for California NORML, I discussed how federal gun laws intersect with California’s legalization of recreational marijuana use. In that article, I examined Ninth Circuit authority holding that federal law makes it illegal for all marijuana users to possess a firearm.

Since then, however, Second Amendment rights jurisprudence has developed rapidly. In June 2022, the Supreme Court issued its decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v.

By Lee Williams

The first edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association was published July 14, 1883. It contained a transcript of the annual address then-AMA president, Dr. W. Brodie, made during the group’s annual meetings in Cleveland, Ohio. Brodie told the delegates that, “in the very near future, if not now, cremation will become a sanitary necessity in the large cities and populous districts of the country.”

Today, JAMA is published 48 times a year and has become one of the world’s most prominent peer-reviewed medical journals, known for its research, news and editorials.

Cook County Court Rules Chicago Has No Jurisdiction to Sue Indiana Retailer for Guns Used to Commit Crimes in the City

Fri, 05/26/2023 - 10:00

Cities with significant violent crime problems seem to be able to devote far more resources to going after lawful gun owners, retailers, and manufacturers than they are toward arresting and jailing violent recidivist felons. You might think a city with a persistent crime problem — one like, say, Chicago — would use as much of its time and money to incarcerate the relatively few criminals who comprise the majority of their violent crime problem.

You’d be wrong.

Ferguson: Progressive Theories on Race Have Only Made the Violent Crime Problem Worse

Thu, 05/25/2023 - 08:00

Data on policing and race is complex and nuanced. Police killings of unarmed suspects are rare, according to the Washington Post, and they’ve been declining. Numbers peak at 95 for all races in 2015, declining to 32 for all races in 2021.

When it comes to police shootings of unarmed individuals, white suspects are shot more often than black suspects (by contrast, Asians are rarely shot by police compared to either group).
