National Guard Tipped Maine Police That Robert Card Could ‘Snap and Commit a Mass Shooting’

Mon, 10/30/2023 - 10:00

We’ve seen all of this play out before. An individual who police had previously investigated after reports of disturbing behavior goes on to commit a horrible crime. Before the bodies cold, the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex and gun-hating politicians claim the problem is — of course — the guns and the crime is just the latest evidence that we need more laws that further restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Mastio: Once We Start Banning Classes of Firearms, The Gun-Banners Will Never Stop

Mon, 10/30/2023 - 08:00

It is also important to remember that the biggest threat from the dangerously mentally ill is not to the public, but to themselves. There are more suicides annually than murders.

Moreover, rifles, including the AR-15 assault-style rifles, are involved in only a few hundred cases of the tens of thousands of murders and suicides every year. Bloody year after blood-drenched year, handguns are many times the killers that rifles — of any type — are.

An Interview With Pure Precision’s Landon Gines on Action Design, Materials, and Accuracy [VIDEO]

Sun, 10/29/2023 - 13:00

By Mike Semanoff

Growing up with a Remington 700 in my hand, I always loved the feel of a bolt action rifle and the potential accuracy they have. Being 16 years old and obsessed with shooting, my day dreams were filled with Carlos Hathcock aspirations and the perfect 1000 yard rifle.

I remember as a kid listening to guys talking about bedding, trueing, blueprinting, or trigger jobs, to tighten up their groups…but didn’t know what all of that meant and I didn’t have money to do it anyway.

It’s Strange the Things for Which Some People Are Willing to Make Liberty Tradeoffs

Sat, 10/28/2023 - 13:00

Watching the usual anti-gun tirades by gun-haters in the aftermath of a high profile shooting like the one in Lewiston, Maine, it’s interesting to see the things that people will and won’t make liberty tradeoffs for. Even those who can only argue by spouting things like, “How many people have to die for your rights?” make these tradeoffs. One that comes up frequently is alcohol.

The United States famously gave prohibition a try.

Sat, 10/28/2023 - 08:00

The White House rebuked comments [House Speaker Rep. Mike] Johnson made to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night, a day after 18 people were killed in two mass shootings in Maine, in which Johnson said that guns are not the cause of America’s unique mass shooting crises.

Saying that it was “not the time” to talk about gun control, he told Hannity, “The problem is the human heart.

NSSF Rejects Fish & Wildlife’s New Final Rule Banning Lead Ammo in Wildlife Refuges

Fri, 10/27/2023 - 16:00

From the NSSF . . .

NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, rejects the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Final Rule that bans the use of traditional lead ammunition on eight National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) and fishing tackle on seven NWRs in exchange for opening hunting and fishing opportunities on public lands. The announcement banning the use of traditional ammunition and fishing tackle is devoid of any scientific evidence that traditional ammunition causes detrimental population impacts.

Bloomington, IL Gun ‘Buyback’ Paying $200, $400 and $500 EACH For ‘Unwanted’ Guns This Sunday

Fri, 10/27/2023 - 15:00

Trick or treat, smell their feet cash. The Bloomington, Illinois Police Department will be hosting a “gun buyback” this Sunday, October 29th. They’re seeking “unwanted” or unloved guns and they’re paying a premium price for them.

After a call to the Bloomington PD this morning, I learned they’re paying $200 for rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Wait, it gets a lot better. They’re paying $400 for ‘unwanted’ ghost guns. And they’re paying $500 for unwanted “assault” guns.

Gun Review: SSK-50 Frame and .309 JDJ Pistol from Haus of Arms

Fri, 10/27/2023 - 13:00

SSK Firearms has released a modern version of the much beloved but no longer produced Thompson/Center Contender frame. It’s called the SSK-50 and it’s backwards compatible with the last version of the Contender. You can buy it from Haus of Arms and they’re shipping them as we speak.

What I truly love about the Contender platform is that right now there are people who’ve stopped reading this review so they can order a frame.

Biden and Newsom Wasted No Time Using the Maine Mass Shooting to Push Their Gun Control Agenda

Fri, 10/27/2023 - 10:00

Republicans in Maine rejected a bill this year that would have required a waiting period for firearm purchases.

They seriously could not fathom waiting 72 hours to buy a gun.

Maine also does not…
– Ban assault weapons
– Require permits to carry a gun in public
– Require… https://t.co/18IoTtYRsY

Maine’s Yellow Flag Law Wasn’t Used to Detain the Maine Shooting Suspect

Fri, 10/27/2023 - 08:00

A proposal for a red flag law that more than 20 states have adopted failed in 2019 in favor of the yellow flag law that backers said would stop suicides and protect both the public and the constitutional rights of gun owners.

The yellow flag law had the support of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, which was instrumental in writing it and viewed other states’ red flag laws as unconstitutional.

Things That Don’t Suck: Clip-N-Shoot Dry Fire Training System

Thu, 10/26/2023 - 16:00

While dry fire practice is very beneficial, it’s always boring. Well, it can be. Ten reps often feel like 50. Just plain dry firing gets boring and doesn’t always offer the best practice. Yet, dry fire remains important. The world and firearm industry recognized this, and they’ve responded with numerous laser systems and targets to add some active feedback to your dry-fire. One system that grabbed my attention was the iDryFire Clip-N-Shoot target system.

Like a lot of these systems, it uses your smartphone to aid in feedback.

Thu, 10/26/2023 - 14:00

Hornady has announced a range of new products for 2024, but three stood out at first glance. First is the handy new HIT Target Impact Indicator. It’s a simple, USB-charged accelerometer that you can attach to a target stand to give you visual confirmation of hits on targets at distance. It’s not the first of its kind, but it’s small and lightweight and looks well designed (especially if you know Morse code).

We don’t have a price on the HIT Target Impact indicator yet.

If Reports About Robert Card’s Mental Health are Accurate, Maine Will Have a Lot of Questions to Answer

Thu, 10/26/2023 - 09:00

As of this writing, Robert Card, the prime suspect in the Lewiston, Maine mass shooting, has not yet been arrested. Last night, Maine State Police announced that Card “recently reported mental health issues to include hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard base in Saco, ME. Card was also reported to have been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks during the summer of 2023 and subsequently released.”

Assuming all of this is true, the Maine mental health and criminal justice systems will have some explaining to do.

Kennedy Amendment to Funding Bill Would Stop the VA From Stripping Veterans’ Gun Rights

Thu, 10/26/2023 - 08:00

Under current law, the Department of Veterans Affairs reports a veteran’s name to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System when they seek help managing their finances in a conservatorship.

“If a veteran who defended this country has to go to the VA and ask for help managing his or her financial affairs, the VA automatically reports that veteran to the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System .

Gear Review: HUSH Holster for Suppressed Pistols

Wed, 10/25/2023 - 14:00

Designing a holster for a suppressed pistol presents all sorts of challenges. The biggest one, of course, is accommodating that honkin’ can sticking off the front of the gun. It’s the large diameter of the silencer, really, rather than the length of it that makes it hard for a holster to allow the silencer to pass through while also managing to hold the skinnier pistol behind it.

HUSH Holsters has come up with a great solution!
