The REAL Weekend Funny: User Of… As Seen By: Blogs?

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 19:50

It would seem that ENDO got the last word in this “Users of… As Seen By’s.” with their epic post on the major online: gun blogs: TFB, TTAG, and ENDO. Click the picture below to be taken to ENDO’s post.

Fair warning: there is much fun at all three’s expense.

Kudos, sir.

Make sure to check out Everyday No Days Off (ENDO) and thank them for their inspiration!

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 19:33

Armed with one of these, it would be nigh impossible to lose your fantasy office rubber band fight. The aptly named Rubber Band Machine Gun (RBMG) is a (genius) product originally released on KickStarter. The project, which only had a goal of $5,000, generated over $147,000 from 1,100 backers.

*Note, the funny part is the KickStarter video. The double-entendres are excellent.

Gear Review: Stik N Shoot Magnetic Shotgun Rifle Lighting System

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 14:11

I offer my thanks the good folks at Stik-N-Shoot for their patience.  This cool little light system has been in my possession, awaiting review, for quite a while.  It seemed logical to wait until I could take it to the range and put it through its paces before finishing the review.

Stik-N-Shoot is a Texas based company that specializes in Magnetic Lighting Systems – specifically for firearms.  The web site shows versions for rifle, shotgun, bow and handgun.  The particular sample they sent is labeled “3” Magnetic Rifle/Shotgun/Crossbow Tactical Green 200 Lumen High Intensity Light”.  They also included a pressure switch that replaces the standard click activated tail switch.

From the web site and literature:

Ammo Prices: 3/28/2014

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 12:01

We are trying a new weekly article concept. With the constant availability and price fluctuations of ammunition we are going to try and make your life a bit easier. Each week we are going to research current offerings at online ammunition dealers and display *bulk* prices for a number of common calibers.

We will show the lowest price we can find at the dealer (excluding reloaded ammunition) for each caliber. Please keep in mind that the prices and availability were validated as of the time this post is written (the information is not real time), and both of those factors can change. Also, prices posted are exclusive of shipping (unless the vendor includes that in the price). The number in parentheses following the price is the cost per round.

As always, if you have any suggestions (or you find that a dealer is out of stock or the price has significantly changed), please comment below.

ARMagLock: No Bullet Button Required

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 09:09

As soon as one law is passed, another gun owner comes up with an ingenious solution. The latest innovation comes courtesy as a reaction to California’s and New York’s recent new laws. The ARMagLock (patent pending) is specifically designed to render weapons legal without registration.

ARMagLock explains it best:

The California Legislature is now trying to pass a law mandating registration of all assault weapons. SB 47 will require that all assault weapons owners register their firearms with the CA DOJ, to include AR-15 firearms with magazine locking devices requiring a tool or bullet to remove the magazine. The registration shall contain a description of the firearm that identifies it uniquely, including all identification marks, the full name, address, date of birth, and thumbprint of the owner, and any other information that the department may deem appropriate.

SB 47 amends the definition of an assault weapon to refer to a rifle that has one of severa

Detailed Photo Comparison of Magpul’s MBUS Gen 2 vs MBUS PRO

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 06:08

AR15News created an excellent picture comparison of MagPul’s MBUS Gen 2 polymer flip-up sights versus the newly released MBUS PRO machined metal sights.

My LGS still has not gotten their order of MBUS PRO in so I have yet to see them side by side. After review, I can really see the benefit of the new style sights, although paying to replace all my Gen 2′s is going to require another mortgage. Why is it the case when something gets smaller it gets more expensive?

Malaysian police lost 44 firearms

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 19:33

I suppose in comparison to an airplane full of passengers, what’s 44 guns lost in the big scheme of things? Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman does not see any need for further investigation.

Tavor Exceeds Expectations

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 15:22

When the Tavor entered the US market, Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) hoped to sell 6,000 rifles in the first year.  They’ve done that and much more:  15,000 rifles in only the first nine months.

IsraelDefense.com takes a look at the Tavor’s success in the United States and interviews Uri Amit, CEO of IWI, and Shlomi Sabag, deputy CEO and President of the US subsidiary.  The article touches on how IWI has expanded its commercial sales and other markets where the Tavor is making an entry.

Thanks to Joe for the tip.

HexMag HX30-AR Magazine

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 14:11

The HX30-AR is the first product from HexMag. This polymer AR-15 magazine is made in the USA and features a lightweight impact resistant design with an attractive non-slip hexagonal surface. What really separates it from the rest of the magazines out there is its HexID Color Identification system.

The follower and latch plate is available in a number of colors allowing for easy identification of magazines. You could, for example, use only blue magazines for .300 BLK, red magazines for 55gr FMJ 5.56mm and green magazines for .223 Remington HP hunting loads. The different colors can be purchased separately.

Slideshow: Police Battling the Cartels in Rio’s Mare Favela

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 12:01

Simmering quietly in the background of the upcoming World Cup, Brazil has been attempting to tackle the Cartels in Rio de Jianero’s Favelas (slums). Brazil, and more specifically, the city of Rio are making a big push to keep the city safe, clean, and attractive for the upcoming sporting competitions including the World Cup in 2014 and Summer Olympics in 2016.

No Hope Of Getting An AK-12 Anytime Soon

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 09:09

Many gun owners had high hopes that the consolidation of Russia’s firearm industry, which lead to the creation of the Kalashnikov Group, along with Russian WTO membership would result in Russia putting pressure on the State Department to allow a wider range of Russian consumer firearms to be imported into the USA. The US market is very important to Kalashnikov and accounts for 90% of their consumer exports.

The state-owned defense giant Rostec owns 51% of the Kalashnikov Group with the remaining 49% owned by private investors. Sen. Dan Coats of Indiana recently introduced legislation that would prohibit any US dealings with Rosoboronexport, the subsidiary of Rostec that handles all government export deals.

Only certain named Russian firearms can be imported into the USA since t

A look back at the Kel-Tec Sub-2000

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 06:08

I am surprised that TFB has not talked about the Sub-2000. As far as I can search, not once.

So lets take a look at this neat little folding pistol caliber carbine. For those who are not familiar with this weapon, It is chambered in 9mm or 40 S&W. Kel-Tec makes two version. Glock magazine compatible and another version that can use Sig, S&W, or Beretta mags depending on the magazine catch installed. But the most intriguing feature is its ability to fold in half for storage.

TAC-CON Media Event: Part 2: Range Familiarization

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 03:38

This evening we were at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility here in Phoenix shooting, and getting used to the 3MR trigger.  I happened to bring my personal AR15 so that I was familiar with the system I was going to be shooting.  Being able to put 500-600 round down range, and get used to how it functions was a real eye opening experience.

As an initial skeptic of the system, I have to say that I have completely done a 180 and changed my mind in terms of its use, its function and its purpose.  Being able to shoot some of the different VTAC drills I was able to see how in a tactical situation the trigger system is very useful.  Having a assisted reset system helps the shooter prepare for the next shot on target and actually allows you the shooter focus on different aspects of your current shooting task.

TAC-CON Media Event: Part 1: Factory Tour

Wed, 03/26/2014 - 17:08

This morning we were all treated to a tour of one of the production facilities that TAC-CON uses to manufacture the components to make their trigger system.  Being an aerospace facility, the product that is being made is of the highest quality, and tightest tolerances.

Also as part of the tour, we were each given a kit to assemble one of their triggers.  Included was all the parts needed to make a fully functional trigger system.  While at first a little daunting, assembly was actually easy.  Once assembled, we were walked through a function check of the trigger system.

What was released to us was a new ambidextrous safety selector that they will begin shipping with all triggers in the near future, with those that purchased triggers with a single sided safety the option to buy an ambi-safety from them.

FNH FNS-9 Longslide

Wed, 03/26/2014 - 16:01

John Johnston of Ballistic Radio gave an update on shooting his FNS-9 longslide. Pretty impressive. 2201 shots fired and only 4 failures. One of the downsides to having something new? Not a lot of aftermarket support.

Check out his review here.

Mini-Review: RapDom Beer Tac-Vest

Wed, 03/26/2014 - 15:22

Every year at SHOT we see some of the most bizarre and cool items. Not sure how this one qualifies. Perhaps we were hankering for a cold brew after a long week snapping photos, but on Friday as everyone was packing up, Sam Cadle and I stopped by Rapid Dominance’s booth. Lo and behold, tactical gear beer nirvana!

The guys were wrapping up and tearing down, giving away every piece of tactical nylon on the booth. After introducing ourselves, RapDom’s personnel offered Sam and I a messenger bag (review coming soon), but most interestingly, the “Tactical Beer Koozie.”

RapDom extols its virtues:

The Deluxe Tactical Beer Koozie is a miniature tactical vest beverage koozie (Up to a 40oz Bottle). The exterior is made of 100% Kodra nylon and the interior is made of 100% Polyester.
