Wild-eyed Bob Costas: Athletes can’t be trusted with guns

Fri, 04/04/2014 - 07:40

Bob Costas was the guest of late, late night TV on Seth Meyers’ “Late Night” program.

Of course, Mr. Costas, the mental giant who wears makeup to go on TV to talk about men playing sports most of the time, lamented the “gun culture” among athletes.  He referenced (blamed?) that culture on “dozens, if not hundreds of sorry incidents” of those athletes misusing guns.

He went on to pontificate:

Let’s make a bet, you and me. Let’s say over the next five years we’ll do a Google search. We’ll have an independent party monitor it. You keep track of how many good and constructive things are associated with athletes having a gun, and I’ll keep track of all

HYPOCRISY IN ILLINOIS GOVERNMENT: Protecting the 1st Amendment right to vote while obstructing the 2nd Amendment right to carry

Thu, 04/03/2014 - 20:12

Illinois politicians work to admirably protect the First Amendment right to vote…

Illinois looks at improving voting rights protections

SPRINGFIELD (Tribune) — Illinois would beef up protections of eligible voters to ensure they can register and cast a ballot without fear of voter suppression under a measure Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan advanced Tuesday.

The proposed constitutional amendment, which would be placed on the November ballot, says no person should be denied voter rights based on race, color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, language or income.

The measure seeks to counter a U.S. Supreme Court June 2013 ruling that dislodged part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and prompted eight

ATF: SIG Sauer “Stabilization Brace” legal to use as a stock

SIG tipped us and a whole bunch of other blogs off regarding a determination letter from ATF regarding firing their “pistol” as a rifle, thanks to the SIG “Stabilization Brace”.

FLORIDA: “Warning Shot” bill advances to governor’s desk (!!)

Thu, 04/03/2014 - 18:32

Bravo!

Hopefully after the governor signs this bill, charges against Marissa Alexander (pictured above) will be dropped.

Legal Insurrection has a very good summary:

So, what exactly does SB-448 do (note: the full text of the proposed bill is embedded at the bottom of this post, but all hyperlinks are to the statutes as they currently exist prior to modification by SB-448)? Here’s a bulleted list, with details below. In summary SB-448 provides:

  • No statutory authorization for firing “warning shots”—indeed, the statutory language would deny justification to any “warning shot” that “poses a th

Ft. Hood II killer rampaged until he met armed resistance; GUN FREE zones are DEATH zones

Thu, 04/03/2014 - 18:25

The AP report noted:

[Scumbag's name redacted] never saw combat during a deployment to Iraq and had shown no apparent risk of violence before the shooting, officials said…

So he wasn’t a traumatized veteran as the mainstream media tried to portray him.  Instead, he was just a whack job angry with the world.

[Scumbag's name redacted] apparently walked into a building Wednesday and began firing a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol. He then got into a vehicle and continued firing before driving to another building. He was eventually confronted by military p

Fort Hood II: 4 dead, 14 wounded, shooter offs himself

Wed, 04/02/2014 - 19:06

Lots of details coming out about the Ft. Hood massacre today.

Shooter offed himself, as is customary in these spree killings.

Shooter is said to be, by CNN, Ivan Lopez.

Oh yeah, did we mention Ft. Hood is a “Gun Free” zone?  How’s that “Gun Free” zone thing working for ya?

AMMO CONSERVATION: One shot, six dead Taliban

Wed, 04/02/2014 - 15:22

Your feel-good story of the day.

This British sniper scores a grand slam, sending six islamic terrorists to meet their little boys and 72 virgins in their afterlife with a single round fired.  Nice!  Now that’s ammo conservation!

We chuckled when we read the author of the story saying the sniper hit the “trigger switch”.

In a sense, that’s correct.  Hitting high explosives with a high-power rifle bullet tends to cause them to detonate.  So, you could say that the rifleman hit the trigger switch — any part of the explosive vest — causing the (premature) detonation of the explosives.

It brings back that line from the end of the movie “I Come in Peace”.

IMMIGRATION CHECKPOINTS: This is how it should go…

Wed, 04/02/2014 - 15:11

I have no idea where Uncle found this, but I like it.

This is how border patrol checkpoints inside the USA should go…

It was posted on April 1, so that should tell you whether or not it is “real”.  It’s superlative though.

GSL: A look under the hood…

Wed, 04/02/2014 - 10:17

We’re growing.

Guns Save Life’s entry into the gun blog world in the third quarter of 2012 wasn’t without a bump or two (such as when our service provider literally pulled the rug out from under us), but we’ve grown.

We thought we would share our stats with the whole wide world…  and our advertisers.

Last quarter, we had almost 1.1m page views and 888,389 unique visitors.

Oh yeah, that’s just shy of 10,000 unique visitors per day.

Our US website ranking, per Alexa, as of this morning is 248,366

About 93% of our visitors are here in the good-old USA.  Surprisingly, less than 15% of our traffic is from here in Illinois, so our scope is nationwide, even though we’re an admittedly Illinois-centric blog, just as we’re an Illinois-centric gun rights organization.

When we started, we considered it a major milestone the first time we had a thousand unique visitors in

LAME HYPOCRISY: Anti-gun lesbian legislator attacks NRA lobbyist for pet issue lobbying

Wed, 04/02/2014 - 09:47

Anti-gun fanatic Kelly Cassidy (D-Moonbattery) is trying to make hay out of the fact that the National Rifle Association’s man in Illinois, Todd Vandermyde, is lobbying for legislation to change a law he was ticketed for last year.

Kelly Cassidy is the openly homosexual Illinois House member who cried on the Illinois House floor last spring when the gay marriage law wasn’t called for a vote before adjournment of the spring session.  We’re pretty confident that Kelly Cassidy, the lesbian representative,  never lobbied a soul for the gay marriage bill.  No sir.  She’s just as clean and pure as the wind-driven snow.

REVOKED IL CCW INSTRUCTORS: Wall of Shame

Tue, 04/01/2014 - 17:57

There’s more to come as ISP has told us they have several ongoing investigations.

From ISP today:

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Police (ISP) announced today that another firearms instructor from Bolingbrook is no longer approved to instruct Illinois Concealed Carry Curricula, and 327 applicants trained by the instructor will receive notification that their application has been denied due to improper training.

Since January, ISP has investigated numerous complaints from the public alleging that firearms instructors were improperly training and /or awarding certificates to students who had not completed the required 16 hours of training required by law.   The Firearms Concealed Carry Act (430 ILCS 66/75) states that firearms instructors are required to teach all applicants, who are not eligible for prior training credit, a minimum of 16 hours of curriculum approved b

IL CCW TRAINING: Security Guard Training courses rejected by ISP

Tue, 04/01/2014 - 16:17

Get what you pay for? Students at Security Guard College got cheated by a trainer who seemed more interested in cashing checks than providing even the minimum levels of training required.

Here at Guns Save Life, we take a very dim view of instructors who cut corners and fail to provide even the minimal levels of training required by the State of Illinois for the concealed carry licenses.

Enter Security Guard Training out of Chicago.

Their lead instructor, James Andel, was decertified by the Illinois State Police in recent days and all roughly 230 of his former students are having their concealed carry license applications rejected because of insufficient training.

What was he doing?

IL Gov. Quinn proposes killing “Hire-A-Thug” hiring program

Mon, 03/31/2014 - 17:29

Governor Pat Quinn seeks to end his “Hire-A-Thug” hiring program, in the face of embarrassing disclosures.  We covered the program a couple of weeks agoAnd with a follow up.

Capitol Fax has today’s story:

The AP drilled into the governor’s budget a little bit and found a few surprises. The biggest surprise, which probably shouldn’t be a surprise

Quinn also has suggested zeroing out funding for the Community Based Organizations for Violence Prevention program, which succeeded the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, which has received $15 million over the past two years.

PLUM CRAZY: ATF rules Plum Crazy polymer receivers ILLEGAL

Mon, 03/31/2014 - 14:42

The Firearms Blog has a story of an ATF determination letter that the Plum Crazy brand of polymer receivers from a few years ago are non-compliant to he law in that the serial numbers are easily removed.

During the examination of the submitted AR- 15 type firearm receiver section (serial number RM00501 ), FTB also found that both the height and depth of the serial number markings are acceptable and thus compliant with§ 478.92. With respect to the adequacy of the attachment of the insert for this frame, the FTB evaluation revealed that the serial number consisted of a thin sheet of metal-like material and was attached to the surface of the embedded metal insert. This serial number was easily removed when a hammer and screw driver were used to peel the sheet off of the metal insert. This action took approximately 1 minute and caused no damage to the receiver. (See enclosed photos depicting the removal of the serial number insert.)

GONE: Douche Morgan says goodbye with parting gun control rant

Mon, 03/31/2014 - 11:00

As we wrote a little over a month ago, Piers Morgan got dumped by MSNBC.

He delivered his last miserable episode Friday evening, subjecting his 314 viewers to one last dose of his funny accent and limited intellect.

He closed his show not with an upbeat message about greatness and inspiration, but rather with a whiny tirade about so-called scourge of violence involving guns, lamenting the impotence of gun control advocates like him to overcome the strength of Americans’ beliefs in liberty and freedom.

CHICAGO ISN’T SAFE: The orgy of violence continues unabated

Sun, 03/30/2014 - 13:00

So much for Chicago Police Chief Garry McCarthy’s successful policing tactics that he claimed were responsible for a sharp drop in violent crime in Chicago early in the year.

Now that it’s not negative thirty wind chill and sixteen inches of snow on the ground, the trash in Chicago are running wild, raping, robbing and killing people with impunity.

THINNING THE THUG HERD: Chicago cops shoot “alleged” dope dealer who likes to point guns

Sun, 03/30/2014 - 11:00

There was a whole lot of wailing and caterwauling from the “inner city community” members near the scene of a police-involved shooting in Chicago.

Where were these people when little Raason (pronounced ‘raisin’?) was growing up?  Why wasn’t little Raason in college learning how to cure cancer instead of slinging dope, as police allege, on a corner at 8:45a.m.?  Why wasn’t little Raisin being a productive citizen instead of pointing a .40 caliber Glock and police officers?

A 20-year-old man who allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer was fatally shot by a police Saturday morning after a foot chase on the South Side, officials said.

Raason Shaw, of the 7800 block of South Merrill Avenue, pointed a .40-caliber handgun at an officer who was running after him in the 6200 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood, officials said.

According to a statement issued by police, a Glock semi-automatic handgun with a laser sight and extended high-capacity magazi

WRONG HOUSE, BOYS: Chicago off-duty cop repels trio of would-be home invaders

Sun, 03/30/2014 - 09:00

Nice shooting, officer.

Chicago (Sun-Times) - Two people are in custody after an off-duty Chicago Police officer shot one of three men who tried to break into his home Friday afternoon in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood, police said.

The officer was at home in the 9600 block of South Princeton Avenue about noon when the suspects tried to break in, police News Affairs said in a statement.

After one suspect pointed a handgun at the officer, the officer, fearing for his life, fired at him, police said. Two of the men, including the one who was shot, fled in a stolen vehicle, but were halted near 89

CA: Another “stay at home” Mom demanding action? Not quite

Sat, 03/29/2014 - 12:00

Moms Demand Action is a wholly owned subsidiary of former mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

However, they are careful to put forth an entirely different image to the low-information crowd.

Moms Demand Action claim to be just everyday Americans.

The reality, of course, is quite the opposite.

Shannon Watts, their national director is an example.  When she splashed on the scene a year ago, she claimed to be a housewife and mom.  In reality, she has long been a Democrat operative, paid (and paid well) to promote for lefty causes.

Enter California’s new state director of Moms Demand Action.
