The good news about bear hunting
A successful bear hunt allows us to use traditional family recipes to prepare delicious meals. Last year, LG and I hunted black bear with Silver Fox Outfitters in High Level Canada. We had a fun, exciting and rewarding trip. Perched in the trees, LG and I observed several bears before we both connected with mature representations of the species. When friends asked where we’d been and what we’d done, some, who assumed you can’t eat the meat, also asked why we hunt bear.
...She Loves to Fish: Summer bass breakdown
Summer has been a whirlwind of fishing adventures with a primary focus on bass. Largemouth or smallmouth, I have no preference and love catching both equally as much! What I appreciate most about bass fishing is the variety of techniques which can be used and of course the battle these fish put forth! Although summer isn’t quite over yet, I want to share the techniques I have found effective over the past few weeks.

She calls her shotgun Rosebud. Eva Hudgins named her Beretta Urkika 2. “I have a weird thing about naming my favorite possessions. Plus, all of the guns I have ever competed with have a rose somewhere on them. I guess you could say it’s a bit of a good luck charm,” said Hudgins.
...Questions you should ask when booking a guided hunt
Many hunters have bucket lists of items they would like to harvest. The challenge in checking animals off the list comes in assessing the cost to hunt said animals and having the time to sufficiently scout the area prior to the hunt. Fortunately, for some, hunters can look to a guide or outfitter to do the behind the scenes scouting without using up valuable vacation days.
...Review: Syren women’s over-and-under shotgun
There’s no singular image that comes to mind when describing an upland hunt in the mountains of Alaska. For many Alaskan big game hunters, game birds are hunted incidentally for camp meals, and the season opener (August 10) coincides with the opening of sheep season. However, a niche group of upland hunters enjoy the sporting life in country that bears resemblance to the Scottish highlands. Getting to these special places requires the strength and stamina of a sheep hunter, and finding birds demands a high-lining bird dog. Certainly, there are easier ways to hunt birds, but there’s nothing like taking your tailored shotgun and following an English setter on an expedition to the mountains.

...Fire & ice: Oh my cod! Fishing in Iceland
It’s hard to believe that any cultural or natural element in Iceland could be as profound as the evolving landscape created by shifting glaciers and erupting volcanoes, but the land of fire and ice provides prime habitat for some of the world’s most widely consumed fish, including cod, arctic char, trout, salmon and haddock. Iceland has endless sources of flowing water and it’s surrounded by the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. The land boasts plentiful minerals and nutrients from the symphony of constant geological events. Since the Vikings first traveled the Atlantic from Norway (AD 800-1100), fishing has not only been a main food source, but a pillar of Iceland’s economy and culture.
