Dallas, Texas – July 14, 2014 – DIVA WOW will hold its 5th Annual Ladies AR-15 Clinic on Sat., Sept. 13, at Quail Creek Shooting Range in Argyle, Texas. The clinic is for new and advanced shooters and is open to the public.

Last year, I shared a “Tips for trail cameras” column here at The WON. Next, I’m going to take a step back and give you some tips on choosing a trail camera; and then, I’ll step forward to discuss what to do with the information you’re receiving from your trail camera photos.

XENIA, OH — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is sponsoring a Family Outdoor Skills Day on Saturday September 20, 2014. The event will feature shotgun, rifle, pellet gun and archery shooting activities and instruction. This family-friendly day will be held at Spring Valley Shooting Range in Greene County from noon to 4:30pm. All range fees are waived for the event participants and the equipment and ammunition will be provided.

Women of all ages will have a chance to trout fish for free 7:30 a.m. – 7:15 p.m. Sept. 13 at Maramec Spring Park. There is no fishing license or daily trout tag required for women during this free event. There will be prize fish stocked into the fishing area. Not only is the event free, but there will also be fishing instruction offered. A special area of the spring branch will be roped off for use by women anglers only. Informal instruction will be offered including casting, basic trout fishing tactics and cleaning and cooking your catch.

Within the first few minutes of tossing my line into the water, I am wrestling one of the top sport fish of Ireland. In a burst of extreme energy, the large pike launches into a deep and aggressive nosedive below the boat. Suddenly, she lets-up and swims slowly and gracefully to the surface, as if to impress me with her rainbow iridescent body. Seconds later, just as I begin to think the fish has tired, she plunges again in a fierce struggle. Her long, lean frame launches her like a torpedo with preciseness and stealth speed. Controlling her direction requires every ounce of strength I have until she slows again, raises to the surface and poetically appears in close range. This pattern continues several times, and finally she is close enough to the boat to land in my net.
