Burlington Considers Gun Restrictions

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 12:22

Democracy is two wolves voting to eat a sheep, so it remains to be seen what happens with this voter-approved petitions. It is shocking this is happening in Vermont, the State is very pro-gun, has Constitutional Carry, but it’s obvious that Burlington (the capital) is a city full of gun-hating liberals.

State lawmakers are starting to weigh three proposed gun-related Burlington laws, more than one year after city voters requested the measures.

The Burlington proposals, approved locally in March 2014, require approval from the Legislature because they would amend the city charter.

Lawmakers deferred any debate on the ideas last year, and this year Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger said he would wait until lawmakers finished working on a separate gun-related state law.

The House Committee on Government Operations has scheduled a one-hour introduction to the charter change proposals at 8:30 a.m. Thursday with legal staff.

The proposed laws would apply within city limits and include the following:

Constitutional Carry Stops Hoplophobic Police Chiefs

Sat, 04/25/2015 - 22:50

In New Hampshire, your concealed carry permit has to be approved by your city’s police chief. So if he hates guns, if you have a DWI, he is free to use his judgement and deny your 2nd Amendment Rights. Constitutional Carry could stop this problem from happening.

When a Franklin man applied for a license to carry a concealed firearm, the city’s police chief, David Goldstein, ran a records check.

What he found was a lengthy motor vehicle record that included several DWI convictions. Goldstein used his judgment and denied the application.

“There’s a question of responsibility here,” he said, adding that the man can appeal in court.

A so-called constitutional carry bill making its way through the State House would take those decisions out of Goldstein’s hands.

Gun owners in New Hampshire currently need to obtain a license to carry a loaded firearm concealed, hidden in a purse or beneath a coat.

The legislation would effectively remove the license altogether, allowing anyone who can legally own a gun to conceal that firearm without any kind of paperwork.

At the heart of the debate is New Hampshire’s conceal carry statute, which leaves it up to local police departments and, in some cases, selectmen to determine whether state residents...

Ruger makes so many guns that instead of buying 19 ads they decided to buy one ad and cover all their wares. I kid of course, Ruger advertises all over the place, and I thank them from that.

Cleveland council passes law creating gun offender registry

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland City Council has passed legislation that includes a provision requiring gun offenders to register with the city.

Mayor Frank Jackson says Monday’s passage is the culmination of a long process and gives law enforcement more tools to attack gun violence in the city.

Some of the legislation’s elements include requiring private sellers to report sales to police, prohibiting the concealed carry of handguns, which state law allows and requiring a gun owner to report a lost or stolen firearm.

The move to pass legislation that goes beyond current state law will likely face another round of court challenges.

The Ohio Supreme Court voted 5-2 in 2010 that state gun laws trump legislation passed by municipalities. That ruling was made in a challenge to Cleveland gun laws passed in 2006.

The Killing of a Kansas Gun Store Owner

Mon, 04/20/2015 - 13:04

While it’s tragic the good guy died, it’s heartening he was able to save his wife from four thugs.

OLATHE, Kansas – Four men charged with killing a suburban Kansas City gun store owner will face additional charges.

The suspects were already charged with first-degree felony murder in the January shooting death of Jon Bieker in Shawnee, Kansas. He was killed while defending his wife during a robbery at the She’s A Pistol gun store. His wife, Becky Bieker, suffered only minor injuries.

A preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday was postponed until July 27 at the request of defense attorneys.

The Kansas City Star reports the suspects – Londro E. Patterson III, Deanthony A. Wiley, Nicquan K. Midgyett, and Hakeem W. Malik, – are now also charged with attempted aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.

All four suspects are being held in the Johnson County Jail.
