Repealing the Wisconsin Waiting Period

Sun, 02/22/2015 - 20:37

Guns don’t kill people, but waiting to get your gun can get you killed, which is why this Wisconsin lawmaker is doing a good thing.

RACINE — A Racine lawmaker wants to repeal Wisconsin’s 48-hour waiting period to buy handguns.

The original intent of the waiting period was to give gun dealers enough time to complete a background check, Republican state Sen. Van Wanggaard said. Now that information is digitized and background checks can be done almost instantly, Wanggaard says a 48-hour waiting period amounts to a “time tax,” The Journal Times

Jerusalem Mayor’s Bodyguard Stops Stabber

Sun, 02/22/2015 - 15:16

Here’s the good guy with a gun, Israeli-edition.

A young Palestinian stabbed an ultra-Orthodox Jew in Jerusalem on Sunday before being apprehended by the city’s mayor and his bodyguard, police and the municipality said.

Mayor Nir Barkat said that as he was driving past city hall, his team saw “a terrorist with a knife.”

“Along with my bodyguard we immediately jumped out of the car,” Barkat said in a statement.

“He [the guard] drew his gun and aimed at him – we grabbed the terrorist until the police arrived,” he said, adding that they also gave the stabbing victim first aid.

Police said the stabbing took place between the Old City and the western sector’s municipality, and that the suspect was an 18-year-old Palestinian illegally in Israel who was “taken in for questioning.”

Police said the victim was stabbed in the stomach. A spokesman for Israel’s emergency services said he was taken to hospital for treatment.

The motive for the attack was unclear but it came after a series of knife assaults by Palestinians on Israelis.

Last month, a Palestinian with a knife attacked passengers on a morning rush-hour bus in Tel Aviv, wounding 12 people before being shot and wounded by a passing prison officer.

In December, a knife...

Unlicensed Activity: New York’s Hypocrisy

As this article in Ricochet.com points out, you don’t need a New York license to drive in New York, so why would you need a concealed license from NY to carry in NY?

50 Shades of Guns

Mon, 02/16/2015 - 01:21

Who knew I would have an excuse to write about a movie that has less sexual nudity than the pseudo-porn shows on HBO?

But when Dakota Johnson, the second lead character of of 50 Shades of Grey, said she learned how to shoot a gun before her teenage years, I have to give her daddy credit:

LOS ANGELES: Actress Dakota Johnson’s parents Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, who are both actors themselves, didn’t want her to join the acting industry.

The ” Fifty Shades of Grey” star said that while she attended high school, her parents were hoping their daughter wouldn’t follow them into the industry, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

When asked if they pressured her not to act, she said: “When I was in high school, sort of, they wanted me to study. But I wasn’t into it.”

The 25-year-old’s father was instrumental in bringing her up and she joked that she had even learnt how to shoot a gun before her teenage years.

She said: “I think before I was nine, he taught me how to ride a horse, a motorcycle, drive a car, shoot a gun.”

Concealed Carry for 20% Less in Mississippi

Mon, 02/16/2015 - 01:12

Constitutional carry is the ideal, but who can be angry when pro-gun Mississippian legislators are proposing to reduce our carry fees by 20%?

Guns: Senate Bill 2394 would reduce the concealed-carry gun permit fee, from $100 to $80 for honorably retired law enforcement officers, disabled veterans and active duty military members. It would also reduce the renewal fee from $50 to $40 for people younger than 65 and from $25 to $20 for people 65 and older. Active-duty military members would be added to the list of those getting free renewal, joining honorably retired law enforcement officers and disabled veterans. The bill has passed the Senate and awaits work in the House.

Too bad the reduction is only for seniors and heroes, what about the rest of us? This is why I don’t like it when the government plays favorites, but then again, I’m not angry our seniors and heroes can get a break, I just wish the rest of us could get a break as well.

The State Can’t Protect You, Rabbi.

Sun, 02/15/2015 - 14:26

The latest attacks of Muslims against European Jews have some people demanding the impossible:

A prominent rabbi and Jewish leader who made headlines last month when he called for the arming of Jewish institutions in Europe is now criticizing European governments for failing to adequately protect their Jewish citizens.

Rabbi Menachem Margolin is the director general of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe and the European Jewish Association, which is the largest federation of Jewish organizations and communities in Europe.
