Rolling Stone: The 5 Most Dangerous Guns
Rolling Stone published an article outlining the 5 Most Dangerous Guns in America. They cover pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, and derringers.
Yes, that’s as specific as they get. Pistols, Revolvers, Rifles, Shotguns, and Derringers.
I think that just about covers every gun in existence. Who writes this garbage? 4th graders?
I was expecting some rhetoric about the uber dangerous Glock revolver, AR-47, and whatever else, but they didn’t even choose to be that specific, I’m honestly embarrassed for them.

[Podcast] Things They Say Are a Big Deal That Aren’t – 90
There are a lot of things that people will tell you are a big deal when it comes to shooting, and many of these things aren’t a big deal at all. In this episode we go through the following:
...Shooting on the Move in USPSA, Part 2
Last week, I wrote a blog post about shooting on the move in USPSA and IDPA. That weekend, I shot a USPSA match.
...Sportsmans Act: Annnnnnnnnd it’s gone!
I wrote earlier today about Kay Hagans “Bipartisan Sportsmans Act of 2014″ and how I suspected that it was going to be a trojan horse for gun control. Earlier today Republicans who had cosponsored the bill also apparently felt the same way, and voted to kill the bill.
Gun owners: 1
Kay Hagans attempt to save face with gun owners: 0

Kay Hagan Bringing Gun Control Fight to Senate
Kay Hagan (D – NC) has been championing the “Bipartisan Sportsmans Act of 2014” which is a bill originally introduced to allow more hunting and shooting privileges on federal land. I’ve been skeptical of this bill since it was introduced by Hagan. She is reviled by most gun owners here in NC, even after her surprising vote on Manchin-Toomey last year.
...‘No Guns’ Signs Aren’t Good Sellers
Saw this gem in the clearance aisle at the local Walmart tonight.
Having about a decade of retail experience under my belt, I can tell you that items go clearance for two reasons:
1. There’s a new model coming out.
2. The item isn’t selling well.
I think it’s safe to say that there’s probably not a new and improved anti-gun sign that actually prevents criminals from entering an establishment with guns, so I’m betting that these signs aren’t selling too well.

Lee Turret Press Speed
Since starting to reload using the Lee Turret Press, the most common questions I get asked is how fast it is.
My particular Lee Turret is the value model, and currently I don’t have the auto-index parts for it, so I manually turn the turret to each station. I’m using the Lee safety prime, and Lee auto-disk powder measure. Starting with clean brass I loaded 100 rounds of 9mm (115gr Berry’s plated bullets over Unique powder, range brass, and a CCI primer) in just over 22 minutes.
There you have it. Not super fast, but not too slow either.

Stephen Spielberg: Triceratops Hunter
A similar picture was posted on a Facebook group yesterday in reference to trophy hunting. I believe it was posted as a joke, but someone bit hard on it, you know, because trophy hunting is why the dinosaurs are extinct…
Oh, and apparently hunting is no different than going into someone’s home and murdering them. Yeah.

Strong Hand Only Dry Fire Day
Yeaup, that’s a blister from the bottom of the trigger guard on my middle finger. I’ve heard people call this “Glock finger”, but I’ve had it happen with any pistol I’ve trained with seriously. Glock, M&P, whatever, it doesn’t matter.
I guess I need to work on building up a better callous there…

Woody’s Designated Marksman Match Review
Woody’s Designated Marksman Match is about the only long range match in the Triangle area and it’s a bit of a hidden gem. It’s held at Woody’s Hunt and Rifle Club, just outside of Apex, and not far from Raleigh at all. I’m not a long range shooter, but sometime in the future, I’d really like to get out and shoot Woody’s match.
Anyways, I just came across this video about the match, check it out (shooting starts about 13 minutes in):

Carry to Defend Against 4-legged Critters
News is coming out this morning about a child and mother that were attacked by a rabid fox in Hope Mills, NC. The fox scratched the child, but the mother, went after the pet dogs, and was killed by the child’s father.
...Massad Ayoob on Las Vegas CCW Hero
On the most recent episode of Gun Talk with Tom Gresham, Massad Ayoob was a guest, and the two talked about Joseph Wilcox, the armed citizen in Las Vegas that gave his life attempting to stop the psycho killers that had burst into the WalMart where he was.
Mas brings up other cases where armed citizens have saved the day, one that I hadn’t heard of before: The University of Texas bell tower shooting in 1966. Mas mentioned that the shooter was pinned down by fire from a competitive rifle shooter, and his national match M14 until police could find the shooter and dispatch him.
Anyways, the interview with Massad Ayoob starts at about the 24 minute mark, go have a listen to it. (Direct .mp3 download)

Super Dave: Shooting On The Move
(Video link for Email/Rss Readers)
I guess this is a way to keep people from doing those IDPA “baby steps” that Ben talked about last week.
I’d like to see this in an IDPA match, although I think the match directors would be concerned about someone missing a step, and falling on the treadmill with a gun in their hand.
Who’s got an old treadmill?

<p>The military is talking about
The military is talking about replacing the M9 again, which always stirs up a caliber war about whether or not 9mm is a suitable manstopper and why the military doesn’t like it. But remember: the military can only use FMJ ammo, no hollow points.
A small, fast bullet is more likely to overpenetrate than a fat, slow bullet in FMJ. When they’re both hollow points and both expand and discharge all of their energy in the target, the difference is much less significant.
So don’t throw away your 9mm CCW guns, just make sure not to load them with hardball for carry.

[Podcast] USPSA Grand Master Chad Thompson – 89
Ben had a chance to sit down with NC Justice Academy Lead Instructor, and USPSA Grand Master Chad Thompson. We’ve talked about Chad before regarding his new series of YouTube videos about competition shooting. Ben and Chad talk about everything from the best game for a beginner to get started in competitive shooting, competitive shooting for defensive minded folks (specifically police officers), and a whole lot more.
...On The Importance of Trying Things You Don’t Like
A few months ago, I bought a flashlight.
...Facebook Could Be The Next Front on the Anti-Gun Battlefield
Late last week we received information that Facebook had completed an experiment to determine if showing users more happy or sad stories in their news feed would have an impact on their mood.
...Ben’s 2014 Carolina Cup Match Video
Ben hasn’t posted this yet, so I figured I’d go ahead and post it for him. He made a last minute switch from his M&P Pro 9mm to his Glock 17 before the match, and it paid off for him with a match bump from Expert to Master!
Not only did he do a great job at the match, but he also spent a lot of time putting together the video from the match, and it came out great. Check it out, and make sure to subscribe to his channel:

...BATFE eFile is Back, and Faster Than Ever
A few months back the BATFE shut down their eFile system for processing the forms needed to gain a tax stamp for a suppressors, and short barreled rifles and shotguns. The draw of the eFile system was that it provided turnaround for processing the forms in a matter of a month or two, as opposed to the six plus months that mailing in the forms.
Earlier this week the eFile system came back online, and it appears that the processing time for the forms is faster than ever. The Gun Trust Lawyer Blog is reporting that one of their clients received a 24 hour turnaround on his application.
If this turns out to be a normal thing, I think it will bring a lot of incentive for people like me to buy a suppressor. My biggest reason for not owning one has been the wait time…
