The constant threat of terrorist attacks, pandemics, and civil disorder weigh heavily on the minds of us all. We are frequently reminded of just how commonplace these things have become every time we turn on our televisions, pick up a newspaper, or turn on our computers. What would you do in a disaster to protect both yourself and your family? What items should you stock up on and have in your home, or be prepared to...

Hammerhead Shadowed Kayak Fishermen for Two Miles in Florida

Mon, 11/17/2014 - 07:51

It is not uncommon for kayak fishermen to run into sharks, but to be actively followed by one is definitely cause for concern. According to WFLA, two men fishing off the shore of Palm Beach, Florida two weeks ago said they were stalked by a hammerhead for about two miles. The predator was likely attracted to the fish that the two anglers caught, and even got close enough to bump the men's kayaks. "It's not really a huge thing to see sharks," Mark Naumovitz, one of the fishermen, told...

Mon, 11/17/2014 - 07:48

A new study recently published in the Journal of Wildlife Management found that wolves may be a bigger factor in Minnesota's moose decline than experts previously believed. The study, authored by two adjunct professors at the University of Minnesota, David Mech and John Fieberg, concluded that there was a correlation between the number of wolves in moose territory and the population of the moose themselves. Following up on a previous study that also took into account climate changes, Mech and Fieberg said that...

Video: Baby Elephant Shrugs Off 14 Attacking Lions

Mon, 11/17/2014 - 07:21

Elephants may not be the kings of the jungle, but there are few predators who will mess with them. As if to demonstrate this, the video below shows that even a young elephant can stand its own against more than a dozen of the savanna's fiercest predators. Adult elephants are practically impervious to anything lions can throw at them, so the big cats usually target calves. Even then, the tough skin and large size of these young animals usually deter most attempts. Elephants are also very protective of their own and will charge any predator that tries and make a meal out of their family...

Two days ago, Autoblog published an amazing article called “Six ‘shut up and take my money’ cars.” When one of the staff members here at OutdoorHub saw that and shared it with the team, we couldn’t help but start thinking of dream guns we’ve had the exact same reaction to. We set to work compiling lists of firearms we’d unquestioningly throw piles of cash at, and here’s what we’ve come up with. Wed, 11/12/2014 - 20:58

Americans love to tweak and customize their guns. The exponential growth of the firearm accessory and optics aftermarket in the past several years proves that fact. While the AR-15 is often held up as the ideal “Lego gun” and much of the industry is focused on supplying parts for that design, certain innovators have dedicated themselves to bringing that American love of utilitarian, rugged accessories to the AK platform. RS Regulate, a manufacturer of accessory and optic mounts for AKs based in Michigan, is a major part of that movement. Making the Kalashnikov modern The AK has held...
