At the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala on June 18, Toby Keith said he’s not sure how to prevent tragedies like last week’s church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina when a 21-year old man killed nine people.
“If it can happen in church, it can happen anywhere,” he said, adding, “Countries all over the world that have really strict gun polices, like Oslo, Norway. It happens there.”

Somehow I doubt the kid in South Carolina was considering the moral or spiritual evils of his acts of murder. Instead, he was more likely thinking like Cain who slew his brother Able.

Information ordered by the courts shows that just one out of every 800 New Yorkers have registered their firearms under the requirements of the state’s 2013 gun control legislation. Records released show that 23,847 people have applied to register 44,485 guns classified as an assault weapon under the egis of the Secure Ammunition Firearms Enforcement Act implemented two years ago. At the time of implementation, it was estimated that as many as 1.2 million guns in the Empire State would have been subject to registration.
