Mass. school demonstrates high-tech active shooter alarm system (VIDEO)

Wed, 11/12/2014 - 15:00

An active shooter drill at a Massachusetts school Tuesday demonstrated how a high-tech sensor system, similar to what is used by the military, can be used to react to an active shooter situation quickly and effectively.

The system works by first detecting shots fired, while a second sensor detects the flash of a muzzle. When the two are detected simultaneously, the system sends text message or email alerts to school staff, administrators and law enforcement to relay the shooter’s exact location in the school, which would help to cut down the response time.
