The M855A1 as tested against a standard concrete block (VIDEO)
The good backyard ballistics researchers over at the Wound Channel test the current 5.56×45 mm NATO M855A1 ball cartridge against a good ol’ $1.50 cinder block.
The lead-free M855A1 loading was adopted by the Army in 2010 and uses St. Mark’s SMP842 propellant, a standard No.41 primer and a 62-grain copper bullet with a funky steel arrow-head penetrator tip that is designed to have better yaw than the old M855 and the Green Tip before it.
But, how does it hold up to a cinder block?

Active shooter in San Bernardino
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department confirmed deputies are responding to an active shooter situation involving one to three suspects.
Details are still scarce, but authorities asked residents to avoid the area of Orange Show Rd and Waterman Avenue, the sheriff’s department said.
Local media reports the specific location is the Inland Regional Center, a medical facility that caters to those with developmental disabilities.
The San Bernardino Fire Department is reportedly responding to “20 victims” but that figure is unconfirmed. Coincidentally, the county fire department drilled for an active shooter situation on Nov. 30.

Study finds special courts have no effect on domestic violence
The Office of Justice Programs announced that an evaluation of New York’s specialized domestic violence courts – despite their goal of rehabilitation – appears to have no effect on domestic violence cases and no significant change in future incidents or conviction rates of offenders.
...Assaulting weapons
The Violence Policy Center is rightly seen as an organization that is dedicated to removing gun rights from Americans. The VPC has been going after what they’ve convinced a lot of people to call assault weapons at least since 1988. And now, the group is calling once again for a ban on these firearms that to them are particularly wicked.
...How to cook up some (mildly) exploding targets at home (VIDEO)
Grant Thompson, “The King of Random,” walks you through how to make thunder cap style snapping targets from matchsticks and stickers.
Now before you get into an intense freak out, Thompson is just short-cutting to an Armstrong’s mixture, which is red phosphorus and strong oxidizer– the same stuff as in the caps in a kid’s cap gun. When used in small quantity, its a pretty safe noisemaker as long as you follow the steps as outlined.
The more you know…

German anti-tank gun vs Ford truck with dramatic outcome
The Full Mag crew have had enough fun with their scrapyard F-150 and decided to give it one more shot– this time from a 75mm anti-tank gun.
The German 7,5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 40, or just Pak 40 to its friends, was one of the most vaunted tank assassins of World War II, making ready Swiss cheese of light vehicles (and most armored ones) as well as pillboxes, houses, and just about anything else they weren’t storing sauerkraut in.
So its not really that much of a surprise what happens to the old F-150.

GRAD Knife Gun: Your backups’ backup
No one in their right mind would bring a knife to a gunfight. On the other hand, many gun owners have been known to pack a blade for those just in case moments. In the late 1990s, one company specialized in hybrid knife guns that packed an unseen punch. This punch, concealed in the grip of the knife, was a small revolver caliber round. That company was known as GRAD.
