6 Old-school hunting rifles still getting the job done
Guns are sometimes much more than guns, defining the love of a family passing from one generation to the next. Odds are good that any hunters carrying these rifles can relate a story of the firearm’s fine lineage of familial and hunting tales. The following six hunting rifles are no longer in production yet still find their way to the deer woods each fall in the hands of hunters who value both tradition and well-built sporting arms.

The AR-15 is simple in comparison to many platforms that came before it (hey, quiet down out there if you have an AK), but, like any firearm, she still needs to be treated right and Jerry braves the risk of ammo box avalanche to take it nice and slow on the take down, clean up and lube.

I was driving to work in my police car considering what I had just told several groups of Americans during a round of public speeches I was giving around Veterans Day. I had spoken to them about terrorism, a topic that I studied for the bulk of my master’s degree and something I learned about a lot more intimately during my time in Iraq, Israel and Palestine. I couldn’t help but wonder when the next terrorist attack would happen, then if it would be on my watch as a law enforcement officer. Believe it or not, I was envisioning mass casualties in coordinated bombings and shootings, just as I heard what happened in Paris.

Claims of American exceptionalism are made often and not so frequently thought through, but in this area, we early on adopted a standard of government that divides power among many groups to build in checks on unrestrained action.
