Does a .22LR has enough umpf to go through a windshield? (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 12:30

You probably already suspect the answer to this 50/50 question on windshield ballistics, so you might as well get some confirmation in this short video from Full Mag.

Most modern windshields are made from a sandwich of two layers of laminated safety glass around a plastic interlayer. While its designed to hold together when shattered, no one ever said it was bullet resistant, even when presented with bullets on the low-end of the power spectrum.

Oops. Did we just give away the ending?

Laser Rangefinders: Are they worth the cost?

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 12:15

I grew up shooting with iron sights.  BB guns.  Archery.  The occasional handgun.  I wasn’t a hunter then, so it didn’t matter if I overshot the target the first time.  Or the second.  Practice and repetition, those were my rangefinders.

Ever see a 10-bore flintlock rifle in action? (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 12:00

Ian over at Forgotten Weapons met up with Mike Carrick of Arms Heritage Magazine and managed to get schooled on a .775-caliber smoke pole.

Carrick has a traditional flintlock based on a 1790s English 10-bore big game rifle. Setting off 200 grains of FFF black powder rockets out the massive 660-grain (1.5 ounce) lead ball at some 1,584 fps, generating well over 3,500 ft./lbs of energy downrange.

For comparison, most of your standard .30-06 loads will produce about 2,900~ ish in the energy department.

But you don’t see a 3/4-inch wide 660-grain .30-06 bullet though, do you?

Just going for a stroll with a suppressed UZI (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 10:56

Every now and then Hickok45 takes a breather from gun reviews and gets inna woods to go clear the perimeter of Hickokville, and on his latest took a hushed-up UZI along just in case.

The Israeli-designed UZI is a classic open-bolt, blowback-operated SMG that cut its teeth in the IDF in the 1967 Six Day War. Although its been largely replaced in military service by 5.56mm carbines and is seen as old-school today, its still gets much love in both Class II select-fire and semi-auto versions.

Add a can to the end (in this case a Bowers suppressor) and you have a crowd-pleaser. Or a good companion for a very quiet uzi-does-it walk in the woods.

See what we did there?

Watch the produce section get shredded in slo-mo (VIDEO)

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 10:38

Vickers Tactical put together what could be one of the most comprehensive collections of random object impact shots filmed in super slo-mo.

These items marked for death include bananas, apples, a water balloon, a light bulb (which is actually pretty cool), a cheeseburger, playing cards, ham, cola, milk, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Its almost hypnotizing. Put on a slow jam in the background and watch it.

Dog named trigger shoots hunter

Tue, 10/27/2015 - 08:39

An Indiana woman was accidentally shot in the foot when her dog stepped on her shotgun on Saturday.

In Kosciusko County, the 25-year-old woman, Allie Carter, placed her 12-gauge shotgun on the ground while hunting waterfowl in the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area.

Her dog, named Trigger, stepped on the gun, releasing the trigger and shooting Carter in the foot. The gun’s safety was off.

She was quickly transported to the hospital for injuries to her left foot and toes.

The Indiana Conservation Officer are using the incident as a chance to educate people about gun safety.

Another installment in why homemade body armor isn’t a good idea (VIDEO)

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 16:06

Demolition Ranch took duct tape, copy paper, some silicone caulk and t-shirts and made their own body armor– then tested it.

Sure they started with some Level IIIA soft body armor, which, according to NIJ specs, is rated to protect against 44 Magnum and 9mm SMG as a control example.

Then they brought out the ream of copy paper and duct tape for comparison.

The copy paper will surprise you.

Kirsten Joy Weiss carves both sides of the pumpkin at once (VIDEO)

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 14:43

Trick shooter and small bore riflery expert Kirsten Joy Weiss takes the familiar October “carve a Jack-o-Lantern with a gun” trope and does it one better.

Sure you’ve seen this done with everything from Glocks to .50BMGs and, while they often produce a decent pumpkin mug on the entry side of the barrage, the exit wound side of the seasonal squash, if shown, looks like stomped goo.

Not so for KJW. She leaves her’s surprisingly reversible when she is done.

We’ve got a gorilla suit. We’ve got Dragon’s Breath. We’ve got exploding pumpkins. We’ve got a good time.

Eric with the Moss Pawn/IV8888 gang take a light break from their normal seriousness to pitch in and clean up the yard with the help of a round of 12 gauge Dragon’s Breath, or zirconium pyrotechnic shotgun ammunition. Just be sure to have a fire suppression plan.

Those damned dirty apes.
