NSSF Issues Statement on SCOTUS Denial of Illinois MSR Ban Challenge

Tue, 07/02/2024 - 14:30

NSSF issued a statement today, declaring their disappointment with the U.S. Supreme Court’s denial of a writ of certiorari in Barnett v. Raoul, one of several challenges to Illinois’ bans on Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) and standard-capacity magazines. The decision not to review the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit’s decision at this early stage of the litigation, while disappointing, does not mean the Supreme Court will not review the matter later after final judgment.

BREAKING: U.S. Supreme Court Declines to Hear Challenges to Illinois Assault Weapons Ban

Tue, 07/02/2024 - 12:30

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a series of challenges to Illinois’ ban on assault weapons, leaving the controversial law in place for now but indicating potential future involvement, WTTW and The Center Square are reporting. The decision comes after the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ban last November, stating that “even the most important personal freedoms have their limits.”

In a Tuesday order, the high court denied petitions for writs of certiorari in six cases challenging the ban.

Louisiana’s Jeff Landry Goes the Extra Mile for Gun Owners

Tue, 07/02/2024 - 12:00

First-term Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is quite a stark contrast to his predecessor in many ways, but perhaps none more so than his approach to protecting and preserving Constitutional rights – specifically the Second Amendment. For Gov. Landry, it’s been promises made, promises kept to Louisianans who revere the right to keep and bear arms, and that includes more than 1.4 million Pelican State residents who have purchased a firearm since 2020.

Gov.

Not Everyone’s Buying The Surgeon General’s Public Health Edict

Tue, 07/02/2024 - 08:00

We recently told you how U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued an advisory declaring “gun violence” to be a “public health crisis” and recommending it be treated as such. Since then, many people, politicians and organizations have pushed back against the illogical idea.

As some background, on June 25 Murthy announced the declaration in the form of a 40-page publication outlining the scope of what he called “firearms violence,” but is actually violent crimes committed by violent criminals illegally using lawfully made and legally sold guns.

States Split on Gun Sale Tracking as New Laws Take Effect

Mon, 07/01/2024 - 14:00

A national debate has emerged over gun sale tracking as states adopt conflicting laws regarding the use of retail codes for firearms transactions. As reported earlier, a California law went into effect today that mandates credit card networks like Visa and Mastercard to assign special retail codes to gun stores, enabling banks to track their sales. Advocates believe this measure could help identify suspicious purchases and prevent mass shootings.

Conversely, new laws in Georgia, Iowa, Tennessee and Wyoming prohibit the use of such codes.

Mon, 07/01/2024 - 10:29

Governor Newsom and the State of California continue to demonize and punish gun owners and enthusiasts for the acts committed by criminals that the state refuses to hold accountable. A significant tax that will balloon the cost of firearms ownership and use goes into effect today. Assembly Bill 28 mandates an 11% excise tax on firearms and ammunition. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what this means for Californians and why more of them should get out of the state and avoid its steady collapse.

With Dems Questioning Biden Candidacy, Don’t Forget Where Kamala Stands on Guns

Mon, 07/01/2024 - 08:22

Since President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance last week, more and more people—including some of his biggest supporters—are beginning to talk about replacing him on the Democratic presidential ticket. Even many who declared him “perfectly fit” just a few years ago are now saying he needs to step aside and let someone else run against former President Donald Trump.

While such a move might be good for those Democrats who hate former President Donald Trump with a passion, it likely wouldn’t be so good for American gun owners, gun makers and gun sellers.

Road Rage Almost Costs A Man His Life, Leaves His Father Injured

Sun, 06/30/2024 - 09:06

In a recent video from Charlotte, North Carolina, we learn about a man who f***ed around and almost found out. Let’s first look at the video and then look at what we, as gun owners, can learn from it.

The cell phone video isn’t entirely clear, and it doesn’t show the full context, so it’s a good idea to watch the full newscast. What we end up learning is that one man honked at a guy who wasn’t going when the light turned green, and this resulted in several blocks of road rage.

Tips for Surviving the Biden Era

Sat, 06/29/2024 - 11:00

Joe Biden has done more damage to this country than any president in American history.

We are embroiled in conflicts and proxy wars around the world. Other nations no longer respect us. Our once-great economy is in shambles. Millions of undocumented and unvetted immigrants illegally cross our borders. Trust and confidence in government is at an all-time low, and violent crime is skyrocketing. Meanwhile, Biden, his handlers and the gun-ban industry are inching closer toward their ultimate goal of total civilian disarmament.

Mantis BlackbeardX: The Pinnacle AR Dryfire System

Fri, 06/21/2024 - 15:30

I’m a huge fan of dry firing at home. It creates lots of good habits without the interference of recoil, which often leads to anticipation, flinching, heeling and failing to stay focused on your front sight. When dry firing, you know each time if you jerked the trigger or if you did it right. Several years ago, Mantis released the MantisX, which hooked onto your pistol or rifle and measured just how smooth and consistent you are.

Biden Makes Gun Control a Focus of His Campaign

Fri, 06/21/2024 - 13:30

As if we ever doubted how this might play out, President Biden’s reelection campaign has moved his gun control agenda front and center of his campaign after unveiling a new advertisement last Saturday, highlighting his administration’s efforts to combat gun violence. The ad came just one day after the Supreme Court struck down a Trump-era prohibition on bump stocks.

In the 30-second spot, shared with The Hill, Biden blames former President Trump for the conservative-leaning court’s decision to overturn the ban.

Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Gun Possession for Those Under Domestic Violence Restraining Orders

Fri, 06/21/2024 - 11:26

The Supreme Court ruled today that a federal law prohibiting individuals subject to domestic violence restraining orders from possessing firearms does not violate the Second Amendment. In an 8-1 decision, the justices upheld the constitutionality of the law that had been challenged by a man charged with discharging a firearm and possessing firearms while under a domestic violence restraining order. The man, Zackey Rahimi, hoped the Court’s New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v.

SAF Goes After Post Office Gun Prohibition

Fri, 06/21/2024 - 08:18

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit in Texas challenging the ban on firearms carry in U.S. Post Offices and on postal property as violations of the Second Amendment, and is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief.

Joining SAF is the Firearms Policy Coalition and two private citizens, Gavin Pate and George Mandry, both Texas residents. Named as the sole defendant is Attorney General Merrick Garland, in his official capacity. The complaint was filed in U.S.

Illinois Gun Ban, Other State Bump Stock Bans Remain in Place

Thu, 06/20/2024 - 16:00

An Illinois law banning the sale and use of “bump stocks” and other devices that increase the firing power of semiautomatic weapons remains in place despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last week striking down a federal ban on such items.

“Illinois law is not affected by the decision,” a spokesperson for Attorney General Kwame Raoul stated to Capitol News Illinois.

This situation has sparked debate as both sides of the gun control issue await the Supreme Court’s decision on whether to hear a broader constitutional challenge to Illinois’ 2023 assault weapons ban, which includes the state-level bump stock ban.

Obscure Object of Desire: The S&W I Frame Terrier

Thu, 06/20/2024 - 14:00

I’ve always liked snub nosed revolvers. There’s a certain mystique to them that goes back to old private eye and detective shows. Plus, they’re still a pretty compact carry gun, and remain popular even well into the 21st Century. I’ve owned a few over the years and the only one I’ve kept is my 3-inch Ruger SP-101 in .357 Magnum, and I don’t totally count that with its 3-inch tube. I kept getting drawn to them though and at one point decided that if I was going to get another one I should give in to that old detective story appeal and get an old one.

Chicagoans Are Catching On, and the Chicago Tribune Doesn’t Like It

Thu, 06/20/2024 - 12:00

With runaway violent crime in Chicago continuing to get worse instead of better, lawful citizens in the Windy City are increasingly taking the advice a city 911 dispatcher gave a home intrusion victim a few weeks ago, and that’s not sitting well with the local liberal newspaper.

The victim count on any given weekend in Chicago is simply astounding. According to reports, last weekend over 70 people were shot in the city, nine of them fatally.

Oh Canada: Crime Is Up, Fewer Gun Ranges Since Trudeau’s Gun Grab

Thu, 06/20/2024 - 09:30

In Canada, a ban on more than 1,500 firearm makes, models and variants, together with a mandatory government confiscation (“buyback”) requirement, was imposed by Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over four years ago. Contrary to the representations as to the inherent deadliness of these guns and the urgency of ensuring these dangerous weapons were no longer available to ordinary citizens, the government had no plan on how to implement the law (and all indications are that it still doesn’t).

When It Comes to Coke and Guns, Go Big With Your Lies to Police or Go Home

Thu, 06/20/2024 - 07:00

Here’s one from the “Nice Try Dude” department. A coked-out Hunter Biden wannabe sat in his Henderson, Nevada, condo last Friday and by his own accounts ingested a gram of cocaine (that was in addition to the three grams he said he had ingested earlier in the week) before shooting up the surrounding condo buildings with more than 100 rounds from an AR and a handgun and then jumping from the second story window and busting his head open.
