31 SIG M17 Pistols Go Missing from Georgia Army Base
It seems its former name, Fort Benning, isn’t the only thing Georgia’s current Fort Moore has lost. The Army has also had 31 SIG M17s go missing and they have no idea how or by whom. But the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division (DACID) is on the case and offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the recovery of the guns or leading to the arrests of the person or persons responsible for the theft.

Ohio Street Party Ends with 25 Shot, 1 Fatally
When one of the highlighted quotes in an Associated Press news story is “There was a street party in the area before the gunfire broke out and an unnamed witness at the scene said hundreds of people were enjoying themselves with everyone in white T-shirts and ‘women on top of vehicles dancing,” WEWS-TV reported,” the bad news can’t be far behind. We’ve all seen that music video.
That certainly appears to be what played out this weekend when a neighborhood in Akron, Ohio, decided to go “Little Chicago” and grab their own gun-violence headlines.

Buy a Gun: Sage Advice From Chicago 911 Supervisor
In Chicago, at least half the time there are no police officers available to respond to 911 calls for help – not even the highest priority calls like stabbings, domestics, rapes, gunshot victims and so forth. Not even for a triple homicide. In August 2022, it took police 20 minutes to arrive at the scene of a triple homicide with two more victims critically injured and a suspect nearby.
Warning: Graphic video.

Florida Sheriff Fires Deputy Who Shot and Killed USAF Airman Roger Fortson
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department has a problem on its hands. Several actually. But they severed relations with one of their many problems last Friday by terminating the trigger happy Deputy Eddie Duran after he shot and killed a USAF Special Operations airman Roger Fortson almost a month before.
This on the heels of the “falling acorn” incident where two deputies performed a mag dump on a parked squad SUV after mistaking the sound of an acorn striking the top of the squad car for gunfire.

Trump Loses His Gun Rights
With 34 felony convictions being delivered to President Donald J. Trump Thursday afternoon by a New York jury—in what is questionably a rigged trial and unquestionably a politically motivated trial—there remain a number of questions on what will actually happen next and how it will play out. One thing that is not in question, at least until a successful appeal is decided on, is that Trump is now barred from owning or possessing firearms.
Journalist Stephen Gutowski over at The Reload was quick to report on some of the obvious ironies this situation creates for gun rights in this country.

Vermont Governor Declines to Veto Ghost Gun Ban
Republican Governor Phil Scott in Vermont has earned the ire of Green Mountain State gun owners as he passively allowed a so-called “ghost gun” bill to become law without his signature. While he didn’t sign it, he also didn’t veto it, proving that party affiliation isn’t always the best way to tell who is your political friend or not.
NRA-ILA reports:
S. 209 implements failed California-style policies that require serialization of firearms and firearm parts.

Supreme Court Rules in Favor of NRA in Vullo Case
At the same time media outlets were reporting on a questionable verdict in the Donald Trump case that is highly likely to be overturned on appeal and only win the former president more support in the 2024 elections, they were also reporting on the NRA’s landmark victory in the Supreme Court Thursday. In that case, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the National Rifle Association allowing the gun rights advocacy group to continue its lawsuit against Maria Vullo, a former New York state official, over alleged First Amendment violations.

Constitutional Carry: What You Still Need To Know
Unlike some other instructors, I’m not against constitutional carry at all. Sure, it might mean fewer students and less money in my pocket, but an out of control government that doesn’t respect the limits placed on itself in the law is a much bigger problem. So, I’m going to support the lack of training requirements and background checks regardless of short-term personal costs.
At the same time, though, I also know that there is some value in a good concealed carry course.

Turks, Caicos Update: Oklahoma Man Pleads Guilty to Ammo Possession
In the ongoing injustice of Americans being imprisoned in the Turks and Caicos Islands for accidental possession of a few rounds ammunition that they could legally own and transport in the United States, an Oklahoma man has pleaded guilty to the charges.
Ryan Watson of Edmond, Oklahoma, pled guilty after two other Americans were sentenced for similar “crimes” last week. One, a Pennsylvania man, was given a year-long suspended sentence and fined $6,700.
California Lawmakers Advance 3 Bad Gun Measures
With the deadline looming to pass bills out of their respective chambers this legislative session, anti-gun lawmakers in the California House and Senate approved three anti-gun measures that would infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens while not affecting violent criminals.
Assembly 2917 was approved by the Assembly and now heads to the state Senate for consideration. The measure expands upon California’s existing Gun Violence Protective Order to allow the court to also consider “threats” directed towards a group or location when deciding whether to issue the order.

Hope For Gun Owners? Majority Of Dems Want Biden Off The Ticket
Could vehemently anti-gun President Joe Biden’s time in the White House soon be coming to an end? Judging by a wane in support among members of his own party, the president’s four-year war on the Second Amendment just might not be extended to eight, as indicated by a new Rasmussen Poll.
Rasmussen recently asked 1,113 likely voters the question: “Would you approve or disapprove of Democrats finding another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the election in November?” More than half—54% to be exact—of Democrats responding answered yes.
A Real Thumper: The Ruger LC Carbine in .45 ACP
Many years ago, the legendary Colonel Jeff Cooper made a posit for a big bore carbine he called Thumper. Cooper reviewed a prototype in Soldier of Fortune magazine. One prototype was in .221 Fireball, the other in .44 Auto Mag. Cooper felt that tank commanders, drivers and other personnel not in front line combat might be well served by an 11-inch barrel carbine.
He was ahead of his time in some ways.

Why I Prefer Shooting On Public Land Over Ranges
Growing up, I didn’t spend much time at official shooting ranges. We’d just go out, find some public land and go shooting. There was no range master. There was nobody coming by to make sure all the rules were being followed. When you were done shooting, you could just go right on out and change your target out or put it away.
After growing up with this, my first experience at a normal shooting range with a church group in town was downright boring.

Portlanders Dump Soft-On-Crime District Attorney
If recent happenings out in the liberal bastion of western Oregon are any indication, Americans are continuing to become more fed up with soft-on-crime prosecutors allowing crime to run rampant.
Last week, voters in Portland voted Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, a Soros-backed liberal, out of office, replacing him with challenger Nathan Vasquez.
“It is looking as if I will not be serving another four years as Multnomah County District Attorney,” Schmidt said in a statement as soon as media projections of the election were released.

More Than Half Of State AGs Ask SCOTUS To Review Mexico Ruling
We reported last week how both the National Rifle Association and the Firearms Policy Coalition have filed briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking a review of lower court decisions regarding Mexico’s attempts to impose its gun-control preferences on Americans.
Now, the top law enforcement officers from more than half of the states in the nation are petitioning the high court to take up the matter.
Led by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, the coalition of 27 state AGs is petitioning SCOTUS to correct a lower court’s ruling in Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.
The Shooting Drill You’re Most Likely To Actually Use In Self Defense
When it comes to practicing and learning self-defense, there’s a few classic drills everyone likes, and there’s often a new drill that’s popular whenever a big defensive shooting hits the news (ex. the “Dickens Drill”). While all of these drills are useful to prepare for real-life defensive possibilities, there’s one drill that many shooters don’t do: shooting from retention.
Rather than just explain it in words, I’ll start by sharing a YouTube video that gives us a good explanation of what it is and how it works.
