Brownells Adds the New BRN-180SH Upper Chambered in 300 BLK

Mon, 03/06/2023 - 15:00

From Brownells . . .

Brownells unveiled the BRN-180SH complete upper – the newest addition to the popular BRN-180 line – announcing it at the IWA Outdoor Classics show in Nuremberg, Germany.

Chambered in 300 Blackout, the BRN-180SH has 10.5” barrel with 5/8-24 muzzle threads, and a gas system with three settings – unsuppressed, suppressed, and off.

The BRN-180SH retails for $999.

With the gas system turned completely off, the upper is converted into “single shot” mode, virtually eliminating sound produced by gases escaping through the ejection port or by the bolt carrier group cycling.

You’ll Be Better Able to Defend Yourself When You Start Thinking Like a Criminal

Mon, 03/06/2023 - 12:00

By Rob Morse

Few of us act like criminals. That’s a good thing. We’re law-abiding gun owners after all. Even fewer of us think or act like mass murderers. That’s good too, and I’m grateful for your restraint.

Most of us think like honest citizens and that lack of imagination has deadly consequences. Thinking like a choir boy won’t stop mass murderers who want to kill us and our children. I wish I was describing some abstract theory, but unfortunately I’m describing a harsh reality we face everyday.

Canine Burglar Alarm: Early Morning Home Invader Shot by Chicago Home Owner

Mon, 03/06/2023 - 10:00

Man’s best friend makes the best burglar alarm. A northwest Chicago resident’s dog woke him up after 1 a.m yesterday. The barking, followed by a noise from the man’s basement spurred Mr. Homeowner to access his personal safety rescue tool. Good thing too, because the resident and his dog met a 27-year-old burglar who didn’t seem too intimidated by staring down the muzzle of a gun.

Pro-tip: A gun isn’t a magical talisman.

Fontana, CA Police Find a Homebrewed Shooting Range Under Gang Member’s House

Sun, 03/05/2023 - 16:00

Cops in Fontana, California made a discovery that played well for the sensationalistic mainstream media. They found a home-made indoor shooting range under the home of a reputed gang member. More alarming, cops also found one of America’s favorite rifles, an AR-15, inside along with a 100-round drum magazine.

They found some other scary guns, too, along with a few thousand rounds of ammunition.  In Gov. Gavin Newsom’s gun-ban utopia of California, that’s a huge haul.

Sun, 03/05/2023 - 13:00

The 7.62x39mm cartridge is one of the most common rifle rounds on the planet. If you’ve not heard of the cartridge, you’ve probably heard about one of the rifles that fires it: the AK-47. The popularity of the AK series rifles comes as a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the worldwide proliferation of the USSR’s suite of small arms. Colorado Pols Introduce Another Post-Bruen Gun Ban Bill

Sun, 03/05/2023 - 10:00

What sort of mind virus leads simpletons to think that banning America’s favorite rifles and other similar guns, along with the magazines that feed them and other popular self-defense firearms will somehow make good guys safer? Colorado Democrats are the latest to propose an “assault weapons” ban, following the lead of other blue states like Minnesota, Maryland, New Jersey and Illinois.

Interestingly, Illinois’ gun ban has already been blocked by a judge. So has New Jersey’s.

Black Democrats Break Party Ranks to Back Permitless Carry Bill in Nebraska

Sun, 03/05/2023 - 08:00

While the [permitless carry] bill would not usurp the federal requirement for a background check to buy a gun, it would allow people to carry guns hidden in their clothing or vehicle without having to pay for a government permit or take a now-required gun safety course. It also would override stricter gun laws in the state’s cities, including in the state’s largest city of Omaha, which requires a conceal carry license for anyone carrying a gun in a car — even if the gun is in open view.

Beverly Kingston, University of Colorado Boulder and Sarah Goodrum, University of Colorado Boulder

In the months leading up to his 2012 attack that killed 26 people in Newtown, Connecticut, a 20-year-old man exhibited a cascade of concerning behaviors. El Paso Homeowner Shoots Home Invader After the Intruder Shot the Man’s Dog

Fri, 03/03/2023 - 12:00

You can learn a few things from a John Wick movie, but maybe the most important lesson is…don’t mess with a man’s dog. Maybe Bruce Wayne Murphy isn’t a movie fan. Or maybe he’s just too much of a dim bulb to have picked up on the attachment people have for man’s best friend. Either way, Murphy made a critical mistake when he broke into the El Paso home of a dog owner Wednesday.

Even After a Historic Landslide Defeat, Lori Lightfoot Doesn’t Seem to Realize It Was All About the Crime

Fri, 03/03/2023 - 10:00

Chicago’s incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot just lost in a landslide. She came in third place and barely received 17 percent of the vote from Chicago voters – 83 percent chose someone else. That means she’ll miss out on a top-two run-off election in April and become the first Chicago mayor in 40 years to lose reelection.

The mayor has only herself to blame. Voters were pleading for her to get tough on criminals.

Illinois Rep. Bob Morgan: Anything Stamped ‘M&P’ is a Weapon of War

Fri, 03/03/2023 - 08:00

As the investigation of the shooting proceeded on July 4th and in the days and weeks after, I maintained frequent contact with law enforcement and other elected officials in the area. It was important to me to understand in detail what happened that day so I could develop legislative proposals aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future.

What I learned about the details of that day horrified me even more.

Gun Review: Smith & Wesson Model 317 Kit Gun .22LR Revolver

Thu, 03/02/2023 - 16:00

Reader Chris Sanzaro writes . . .

Lots of outdoorsmen carry a gun with them when they’re in the field. Whether it’s for self-defense, pest control, or just some fun, a small, light gun is generally what they choose. In the early 20th century, small frame revolvers in rimfire calibers fit that bill. Before polymer and aluminum frame firearms, these smaller calibers were the best compromise.

With the introduction of the J-frame and, later, scandium started to pack way more of a punch.

Old Fat White Guys Have a Lot of New Company in America’s Gun Culture

Thu, 03/02/2023 - 14:00

Times, and gun ownership, are a-changing. Much to the chagrin of those who oppose lawful gun ownership, it is becoming increasingly difficult to paint the stereotype of today’s gun owner as pale, male and stale.

The firearm industry has always said it: the Second Amendment is colorblind. The right of law-abiding Americans to buy and own firearms is for everyone. For many in the media, that notion is unthinkable. If they were paying attention instead of projecting an antigun agenda, it wouldn’t be surprising.

How Americans Are Taught to Hate Guns and Despise Gun Owners

Thu, 03/02/2023 - 12:00

By Rob Morse

We all know how to sell something. We also know how to discredit an idea or action. All we have to do is ignore its benefits and inflate its costs. Are those lies exactly? Here is how the mainstream media and anti-gun rights politicians teach low information voters to hate guns and despise gun owners…they lie about them.

Tell only half the truth about armed self-defense. The easiest way for the media and gun prohibition politicians to blame gun owners is to show the harm that criminals do with guns while ignoring the lives that are saved when honest citizens use firearms defensively.
