John Linebaugh, RIP

Thu, 03/23/2023 - 10:00

The shooting and hunting world has lost a true pioneer. John Linebaugh passed away, surrounded by his family in his home on March 19, 2023.

It is impossible to overstate Mr. Linebaugh’s effect on pistol hunting around the world. This man almost single-handedly invented “big bore” handgun hunting and certainly is responsible for the re-birth of revolver hunting in America, and throughout the world.

Without doubt, Mr. Linebaugh was a scientist, in the truest sense of the word.

It’s Still Perfectly Legal to Build Your Own Handgun…And You Should

Wed, 03/22/2023 - 16:00

By Lee Williams

Americans have been making guns in their homes since before there was a United States of America – but not this American.

My gun-building history was nonexistent. I’ve replaced some furniture and muzzle devices on a few AKs, but that’s about it. So, when David from 80% Arms called and said he wanted to send me a pistol build kit to review, I thought he’d called the wrong number.

I Bought My First Gun In a Pawn Shop…Here’s How That Went

Wed, 03/22/2023 - 12:00

By Garrett Owens

Surely designed to withstand doomsday, the exterior of the store is blood red cinder blocks. The windows are barred and it’s located just on the other side of the tracks from our sleepy, happy town.

In bright yellow paint, “Don’t be a Victim” and “Second is our Right” is enscribed on the exterior leaving little to imagination as to what lies inside. “Not a place you want to bring the family,” reads the only online review I found.

The New Anti-Gun Narrative: Uvalde Cops Stood Down Because the Shooter Had an AR-15

Wed, 03/22/2023 - 10:00

By Lee Williams

Law enforcement is dangerous. That’s why departments issue handguns, spare mags, Tasers, pepper spray, batons, shotguns, ARs and body armor, and spend millions of taxpayer dollars every year making sure their officers know how to use deadly force with some modicum of proficiency. If you can’t accept the danger, do not apply.

Pinning on a badge once came with an implied agreement. It meant you were willing to risk your life to protect the lives of others, regardless of how the courts have ruled.

Judge Bumb: Attorneys Didn’t Tell the Whole Story in Their Defense of New Jersey’s Gun Control Laws

Mon, 03/20/2023 - 08:00

In the New York ruling known as Bruen, the U.S. Supreme Court justices established a new test for Second Amendment cases, focused on whether there’s a historic precedent for the regulation in contention.

So Friday, the opposing attorneys spent much of the hearing trying to show why history dating back to the colonial era was on their side — or why it shouldn’t necessarily carry the weight Bruen afforded it.

Thanks to the internet and social media, EDC or everyday carry have become ultra-popular terms. Thousands upon thousands of Instagram users post their EDC photos on a daily basis. Rather than consider the pros and cons of such activity, I would instead pose a couple of serious questions.

What does it truly mean to carry every day? Or, what items are genuinely the most practical and valuable for the armed citizen when it comes to everyday carry?

Figliuzzi: This is How the Feds Should Dragoon Local LEOs Into Helping Enforce Their Gun Control Schemes

Sun, 03/19/2023 - 08:00

We need the Justice Department to use its power of the purse and offer incentives for local, county and state agencies to abide by their state’s red flag laws and, just as importantly, disincentives when they don’t.

Following last year’s mass shooting at Club Q, the LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, some state lawmakers raised questions about law enforcement leaders who were unsupportive of the state’s red flag provisions.

After Bruen, Lower Courts Are Still Coming Up With ‘Creative’ Ways to Prolong the Inevitable

Sat, 03/18/2023 - 08:00

Resistance. We use this term in different senses when discussing lower court decisions. One, courts might resist the fact of the Bruen decision itself or they might read the decision in a manner that resists adopting the logical conclusions of the decision’s methodology.

Resistance can also manifest itself in a desultory or bad faith application of Bruen. For example, despite not citing a single piece of evidence or engaging in any meaningful analysis, a Texas district court refused to dismiss an indictment brought under 18 U.S.C.

Gear Review: Streamlight TLR-8 G Sub Weapon Light and Laser

Fri, 03/17/2023 - 12:00

Let’s face it. Everyone who carries a handgun should carry a light, too. You never know where or when you’ll have to use your handgun in a defensive situation, let alone the lighting conditions you’ll be dealing with. And properly identifying the threat is pretty important.

Some of us carry a flashlight as part of our EDC gear, but a weapon-mounted light is quick, convenient and works well when your off-hand is otherwise occupied.
