New York Times Make the Case for Urban Residents Exercising Their Second Amendment Rights

Sun, 07/10/2022 - 08:00

These everyday killings received far less attention than the mass murder at the parade. But they are the standard for American gun violence: More than 95 percent of gun homicides this year have been shootings with one to three victims.

Today, we want to help you understand where and why most everyday gun violence happens. We’re going to focus on Chicago, because it has one of the country’s highest murder rates and because a local group — the University of Chicago Crime Lab — keeps detailed data.

BREAKING: Dick Heller Files Lawsuit Challenging DC’s Limit on the Amount of Ammo a Concealed Permit Holder May Carry

Sat, 07/09/2022 - 20:47

A reliable source tells us that Dick Heller, of District of Columbia v. Heller fame, is back at it defending gun rights on a national level. Under an arbitrary rule established by the District of Columbia Police Chief years ago, an individual with a DC concealed carry permit may only carry enough ammunition to load their firearm and reload it once.

Heller’s new lawsuit challenging that restriction, naming the District and Police Chief Robert Contee as respondents.

From the Second Amendment Foundation

Attorneys for the Second Amendment Foundation and several partners have filed a federal lawsuit for Declaratory and Injunctive Relief in a case challenging the constitutionality of a California law prohibiting gun shops, sporting goods stores, and any “firearm industry member” from advertising, marketing or arranging for placement “any firearm-related product in a manner that is designed, intended, or reasonably appears to be attractive to minors.”

It is a First Amendment case known as Junior Sports Magazine, Inc., et al, v.

Vinik: I Want Project Unloaded to be the Next D.A.R.E Program

Sat, 07/09/2022 - 08:00

Decades of behavior research tell us, however, that adults’ views are based on what fits into their preexisting understanding of how things work. By early adulthood, our views solidify and become difficult to change. In short, if we wait until people are likely to vote to talk to them about guns, we’ve waited too long.

Luckily, there is a window when the facts can persuade.

Working closely with researchers, I sought to understand more about that window and what could be done.

Gun Review: Beretta APX A1 Full Size 9mm Pistol

Fri, 07/08/2022 - 15:00

Let’s jump into the Wayback Machine and set the dial for early 2017. Beretta had recently lost out on the Army’s modular handgun system competition. But the Italian gun maker used the product of that process to introduce their first ever full size striker-fired handgun to the commercial market.

The APX full size pistol did everything you want a 9mm striker-fired handgun to do and did it very well. Beretta then expanded the APX line with a range of sizes and features up to and including the APX A1 Carry pistol rolled out last fall.

‘Police Reforms’ Mean More Illegal Guns on The Streets, Soaring Crime Rates

Fri, 07/08/2022 - 13:00

From the CCRKBA . . .

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today blasted so-called “police reforms” in various American cities for hindering law enforcement efforts to remove contraband guns from the streets, thus enabling criminals to illegally circulate firearms to convicted felons or underage thugs, contributing to a violent crime problem for which law-abiding gun owners are unfairly penalized.

A recent report said “reforms” instituted in Philadelphia that reduced traffic stops are having a negative impact.

Governor Hochul Doesn’t Need Facts or Data to Tell Her That New Yorkers Have Too Many Gun Rights

Fri, 07/08/2022 - 11:00

It only took 30 seconds, that’s all. New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul held a press conference calling back her state’s legislature for an “extraordinary” session to pass more gun control after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down New York’s restrictive and subjective “may issue” pistol permit license scheme.

In 30 seconds, she vocalized why her gun control agenda is destined to fail.

Failed Approach

Gov. Hochul exclaimed, “I’m absolutely shocked,” after the Supreme Court held in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v.

BREAKING: Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Assassinated During Campaign Speech [VIDEO]

Fri, 07/08/2022 - 07:01

Japan is one of the most heavily gun-controlled democracies on Earth. That, however, didn’t stop an assassin from using what appears to be a homemade firearm to shoot and kill former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as he delivered a campaign speech in western Japan.

From the AP . . .

Abe, 67, was shot from behind minutes after he started his speech in Nara. He was airlifted to a hospital for emergency treatment but was not breathing and his heart had stopped.

Gun Review: Extar EP9 Gen 2 9mm Pistol

Thu, 07/07/2022 - 16:00

New for 2022, the Extar Arms EP9 Gen 2 resets what we should expect from a GLOCK magazine-fed 9mm large-format pistol.

Large-format 9mm pistols (sometimes incorrectly referred to as Pistol-Caliber Carbines or “PCCs”) have had quite a run in recent years. Unlike their 16″-barreled big brothers, the large-format pistol doesn’t quite replace a rifle for practice, but it does have a very valid role.

By shortening the barrel and dropping the stock, guns of this format are lighter, smaller, and more maneuverable than a true PCC.

Richmond Police Say They Stopped a July 4th Shooting Planned by Two Guatemalan Illegal Immigrants

Thu, 07/07/2022 - 10:00

Police in Richmond, Virginia, said Wednesday that they thwarted a planned July 4 mass shooting after receiving a tip that led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of multiple guns — an announcement that came just two days after a deadly mass shooting on the holiday in a Chicago suburb.

A “hero citizen” overheard a conversation indicating there was an attack being planned on an Independence Day celebration in the capital city and called police to report it, Police Chief Gerald Smith said at a news conference.

McManus: America Refuses to Protect its Citizens from Violent Crime

Thu, 07/07/2022 - 08:00

Which brings up the other problem: America’s growing refusal to protect its citizens from violence. In its cities, that’s what the bail-reform/defund-the-police movement is all about — shielding criminals from the consequences of their actions.

But there also is the matter of violently expressed mental illness and its corollary, the clearly disturbed and deteriorating individual who may not yet have hurt someone, but who unmistakably is headed in that direction.

Five Democratic Senators recently sent ominous letters to United Parcel Service and 27 other carriers, blaming them for escalating violent crime rates.

“We are concerned that lax shipping security measures are contributing to the epidemic of gun violence in this country by allowing criminals to use stolen firearms to commit crimes,” the letters each state.

They were signed by Senators Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cory A.

Wed, 07/06/2022 - 13:00

After the recent NYSRPA v. Bruen decision struck down New York’s “good cause” requirement for obtaining concealed carry licenses, the state government and anti-gun activists have been looking for ways to fight back. And the forces in opposition are getting creative.

A recent agreement between a number of New York City hotel owners and the New York Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (a union representing hotel workers) requires the hotels to ban firearms from their premises, including hotel rooms.

Highland Park Killer Bought His Guns Legally Despite ‘Warning Signs’

Wed, 07/06/2022 - 09:00

How many times have we heard this storyline before? A troubled, clearly unstable male who had had a number of previous run-ins with law enforcement bought firearms legally that he later used to murder a large number of people. And it doesn’t seem to matter how many gun control laws are in place or background checks are required or whether a red flag law is on the books.

Sixsmith: Despite What Both Sides Want to Believe, Most Mass Killers Aren’t Driven by Politics

Wed, 07/06/2022 - 08:00

[T]he opportunistic haste with which people scour the online footprints of mass shooters for evidence of ideological affiliations is absurd. Their clothes, relationships, and even social media likes are treated like DNA at the scene of a crime.

But shooters are not all inspired by politics. Evil has a thousand sons. Elliot Rodgers was a bitter incel. James Holmes was mentally ill. Salvador Ramos appears to have been an incel and mentally ill.
