Tue, 07/26/2022 - 14:00

By Lee Williams

New Jersey’s Acting Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced Monday he has created a new statewide office specifically designed to harass the gun industry through civil nuisance lawsuits.

According to a press release, the mission of Platkin’s Statewide Affirmative Firearms Enforcement or SAFE Office will be to bring “civil enforcement actions against firearm companies to hold them accountable for violations of the law that harm the health and safety of New Jersey residents.”

The SAFE Office’s primary tool will be a new law Gov.

Things That Don’t Suck: GuardTech Plus Universal Cleaning Kit

Tue, 07/26/2022 - 12:00

I have a goodly amount of gun cleaning gear. I have stuff I’ve bought on my own, vintage tools and potions I inherited from my gun-loving uncle and other dribs and drabs I’ve picked up along the way.

That’s probably not too different from the experience of most people who’ve owned guns for any length of time. But what I’ve also found is it’s incredibly convenient to have a single, portable, easily packable kit to throw in the car or a backpack.

The Indiana Mall Shooting Proves You Can’t Rely On Luck and a Gun

Tue, 07/26/2022 - 10:00

If you look at the word “disaster,” there are clues about what the word means to us. The beginning part, “dis-” is a Latin root for “bad” or “negative”. The “aster” part means “star”. So it literally means bad star, or a “bad sign”. Or, in other words, ancient superstitious people thought of disasters as just really bad luck.

We often see the same thing today. When something bad befalls people, we frequently chalk it up to bad luck.

Busse: Modern Gun Industry Marketing Has Created Today’s Mass Killers

Tue, 07/26/2022 - 08:00

[ED: Former gun industry executive Ryan Busse has created a lucrative new niche for himself preaching against the industry in which he worked for decades. He’s now making good money and gaining fame as a professional apostate, painting himself as a brave truth-teller who’s escaped the clutches of the gun business to spread the word of its long hidden corruption and perfidy. It’s a narrative that’s simply too good for the gun control industry or the media to pass up.

Who Really Stops the Bad Guy With the Gun?

Mon, 07/25/2022 - 16:00

A reader who prefers to remain anonymous writes . . .

Who stops a bad guy with a gun is purely circumstantial. Determining the most effective means of stopping bad guys with guns is far more important. A recent New York Times presentation of data suggests the effectiveness of citizens. However, it does not isolate the effectiveness of armed citizens. That’s a shame.

Most people do not carry weapons.

Florida Ex-Cop Who Killed a Woman During an Exercise Wants His Probation Deal Ended Early

Mon, 07/25/2022 - 14:00

By Lee Williams

Former Punta Gorda, Florida Police Officer Lee Coel aimed his Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver at 73-year-old retired librarian Mary Knowlton and pulled the trigger four times.

What were supposed to be blanks, weren’t. Coel had loaded wadcutters into his personal weapon. He could not tell the difference between blanks and live rounds.

Two rounds struck Knowlton – one hit her elbow and the other perforated her aorta.

Gear Review: Swampfox Saber 5X Prism Optic

Mon, 07/25/2022 - 12:00

During my time in the Marine Corps, our optics of choice were Trijicon ACOGs. These were 4X fixed power prismatic optics. At that point, I thought this was the best option for infantrymen. With that said, I still greatly appreciate prismatic optics and own several models. My latest is the Swampfox Saber, one of the more powerful prismatic optics out there.

The Swampfox Saber is a 5X optic that first premiered at SHOT SHOW 2022.

Why Is California Governor Gavin Newsom Messing With Texas?

Mon, 07/25/2022 - 10:00

We’ve been seeing some unusual behavior from California Governor Gavin Newsom recently. Normally, if you’re running for re-election, you’d focus your advertising and media production dollars on the state where the election will be held. After all, that’s where all of the voters are. Spending media dollars in markets outside state lines doesn’t appear to make any sense.

On July 4th, Newsom’s campaign spent big some bucks to run an ad on TV in Florida, a continent away from the Golden State.

When it Comes to Choosing Your Carry Gun and Ammo, Remember What’s Really Important

Mon, 07/25/2022 - 08:00

Even more inexplicable are the shooters who choose the Thor-Hammer 147-grain over the competing loads from FreedomFist and ‘MurricaHeckYeah because, according to the data on the box flap, it’s 30 fps faster at the muzzle.

I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad tidings, but those box-flap numbers come from a test barrel at the manufacturer’s facility and may or may not have much correlation with how fast a projectile is ticking along when it exits the muzzle of your own pistol.

Sun, 07/24/2022 - 13:00

By J. Noble Daggett

I am a congressional staffer for a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. I live in my Congressman’s district, not D.C. As such I am on the front line of communicating with voters and constituents, relay their sentiments to my boss, the Congressman.

I am also a gun owner who takes multiple training classes annually, carries daily and is a dues-paying member of two gun rights organizations.

Democrat Senators OUTRAGED They Can’t Block Legal Firearm Exports

Sun, 07/24/2022 - 11:00

If you didn’t watch the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing on Advancing National Security and Foreign Policy Through Export Controls: Oversight of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), no one will blame you for missing out. I endured the pain for you.

The spectacle was made more agonizing by antigun Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) complaining they can’t use their Senate roosts to block firearm exports.

Uvalde Residents Want Consequences For Those Whose Failures Cost So Many Lives

Sat, 07/23/2022 - 13:16

By Jake Bleiberg and Acacia Coronado, AP

After the massacre at Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School in May, Jesse Rizo was worried about his old friend, police chief Pete Arredondo.

Blame for the botched police response was being directed heavily at Arredondo when Rizo texted him just days after the shooting: “Been thinking of and praying for you.”

Two months later, with investigations and body-camera video spotlighting the chaotic response by police to the killing of two teachers and 19 students, Rizo remains worried about Arredondo.

California’s Latest Anti-Gun Law is Patterned After a Texas Abortion Law

Sat, 07/23/2022 - 10:00

Yesterday, California’s oleaginous Governor Gavin Newsom signed the latest in a series of new gun control bills into law. Senate Bill 1327 takes a cue from Texas’s abortion law and enables any citizen to “sue anyone who distributes illegal assault weapons, parts that can be used to build weapons, guns without serial numbers, or .50-caliber rifles.”

The bill is both a tit-for-tat response to the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision as well as a jab directed at Texas’s anti-abortion law that’s structured similarly.
