Celebrating Independence Day Chicago-Style: 92 Shot, 15 Murdered Over a Very Long Weekend
Most normal Americans traditionally celebrate Independence Day with friends, family, food and fireworks. Not in Chicago. Well, maybe the “fireworks” part. The holiday weekend in Murder City, USA means traditionally an orgy of violence with little likelihood of arrest or conviction for the perpetrators. This past weekend upheld that tradition only too well.
With 92 shot over the extended weekend, and 15 killed, the Independence Day holiday proved quite the dysfunctional crap show in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s domain.

Police Hunting for Rooftop Shooter Who Killed Six, Wounded 24 at Suburban Chicago July 4th Parade

At least six people died and 24 were wounded in a shooting at a July Fourth parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, and officers are searching for a suspect who likely fired on the festivities from a rooftop, police said Monday.
Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill, the incident commander on scene, urged people to shelter in place as authorities search for the suspect, described as a white male wearing a white or blue T-shirt.

Supreme Court Marshal Wants Maryland, Virginia Anti-Demonstration Laws Enforced Outside Justices’ Homes

The marshal of the U.S. Supreme Court has asked Maryland and Virginia officials to enforce laws she says prohibit picketing outside the homes of the justices who live in the two states.
“For weeks on end, large groups of protesters chanting slogans, using bullhorns, and banging drums have picketed Justices’ homes,” Marshal Gail Curley wrote in the Friday letters to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and two local elected officials.

There are a lot of taboos on commercial television, which for instance doesn’t like to show scenes of poverty (unless it’s being chased by police), rarely interviews non-voters, almost never does military contracting fraud stories, and seldom shows results on the ground of American military/drone strikes, even if they’ve already appeared on the airwaves of other countries.

In the wake of the Buffalo and Uvalde mass shootings, 70% of Republicans said it is more important to protect gun rights than to control gun violence, while 92% of Democrats and 54% of independents expressed the opposite view. Just weeks after those mass shootings, Republicans and gun rights advocates hailed the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated New York state’s gun permit law and declared that the Second Amendment guarantees a right to carry a handgun outside the home for self-defense.

Earlier this week, California Attorney General Rob Bonta boasted in a press release that his Department of Justice had created a firearms dashboard portal to increase “transparency,” which resulted in the wholesale exposure of the personal information–including license to carry information–related to the gun owners who have complied with California’s onerous gun restrictions.
There is no way to sugarcoat the horrible violation of trust committed against Californians this week.
Jane Fonda: Free Women by Redefining Vaginas as AK-47s…or Something
“If a corporation can be defined as a person, why not redefine vaginas as AK47s,” She wrote. “That way they’d be free of governmental restrictions by those who care about ‘the sanctity of life.'”
Fonda echoed the sentiments of critics who have pointed out that abortions can now legally be banned, but the 2nd Amendment — which ensures the right to own a gun is protected — is still in place despite numerous mass shootings across the US.
Firearms Policy Coalition Files Ninth Circuit Motion to Lift Stay of California’s Assault Weapons Ban Ruling
Last year, Federal District Court Judge Roger Benitez ruled that California’s “assault weapons” ban is unconstitutional in Miller v. Bonta. Benitez applied the Heller decision’s ruling to his decision in the case. He then refused a request to stay his order while the case was appealed by the state to the Ninth Circuit court of appeals. A Ninth Circuit panel, naturally, issued a stay while they considered the case.

As Expected, ‘May-Issue’ States Are Going to Have to be Forced Into Compliance With the Supreme Court’s Bruen Ruling
As nearly ideal as the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision was, no one thought the states that exercise maximum control over who can fully exercise their Second Amendment rights — and who can’t — would go quietly.
