The Truth About Guns
Gear Review: RCBS Chargemaster Supreme Electronic Powder Dispenser
I started reloading back when we were still hiding under our school desks to protect ourselves from Brezhnev’s A-bombs.
My RCBS beam-style powder scale isn’t much younger than that. I still load thousands of rounds every year with it and a pair of RCBS single stage presses from the same era. In fact, almost all of the basic reloading gear I have is from RCBS, and all of it is many decades old.
Junk Science: Johns Hopkins Uses Bogus Data to Claim Constitutional Carry Results in More Police Shootings
By Lee Williams
If you didn’t know any better, the headline on a press release published Wednesday by Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health could appear damning: “Study Finds Link Between Dropping Permit Requirement for Carrying Concealed Weapons and Increase in Officer-Involved Shootings with Civilian Victims.”
The Trace – the propaganda arm of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun empire – was as excited and breathless as a young pup in their response to the press release .
Technology: Using the Urban Dictionary to Solve Gun Crimes
Detectives sometimes use Urban Dictionary to translate slang when investigating deadly gun crimes.
Pole, strap, gat, drill, stick, glizzy and metal are all words used to describe guns.
A “stain” is another word for a robbery, according to Andy McDermott, a former Aurora detective who led multiple gun investigations during his police career.
“Some of it is stylization, or it’s cool, kind of like an ‘in thing’ to have these different words for firearms.

Made in ‘Merica: Behind the Scenes At Beretta’s Gallatin, Tennessee Factory
When you’ve been making guns for just short of 500 years — that’s half a millenium, folks — you learn a thing or two about manufacturing. Touring Beretta’s Gallatin, Tennessee factory northeast of Nashville makes that abundantly clear, even if you’re woefully ignorant about all things mechanical.
One of the benefits of writing about guns is you get to see how a lot of them are made. That ranges from relatively small shops to large industrial operations.

Senators Threaten Court-Packing – Again – As Americans Embrace Their Second Amendment Rights
The unauthorized leak of a draft abortion opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court has Democrats up in arms (again) about packing the U.S. Supreme Court. This isn’t a new argument and one gun control advocates publicly pitched before.
Senators are openly calling for court-packing again and that’s before the Supreme Court has rendered a final opinion on New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen or finalized the opinion of the leaked abortion draft decision.
The Trace’s Anti-Gun Agitprop Now Featured in the ‘Los Angles Times’ Disguised as News
By Lee Williams
The Los Angeles Times is a real newspaper, unlike USA Today, which most people step over while leaving a hotel room. During its more than 140 years, the Los Angeles Times has earned 48 Pulitzers. It has a daily print circulation of 1.2 million readers, and a weekly print and digital circulation of 4.4 million.
That’s why it is somewhat surprising that the Times copied USA Today’s ethical blunder by allowing anti-gun activists from the Trace to publish unedited propaganda disguised as real news.
CA’s Age-Based Discrimination Banning Semi-Auto Rifle Sales to Adults Under 21 Was Always Unconstitutional
America would not exist without the heroism of the young adults who fought and died in our revolutionary army. Today we reaffirm that our Constitution still protects the right that enabled their sacrifice: the right of young adults to keep and bear arms. …
As to the semiautomatic rifle ban, we part company with the district court. Strict scrutiny applies. The main difference between this ban and the long gun regulation is the exceptions.

FPC Wins Age-Based Challenge to California’s Gun Control Laws
From the Firearms Policy Coalition . . .
A 3-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision today in the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and FPC Action Foundation (FPCAF)-led case of Jones v. Bonta, holding that California’s age-based firearms purchase ban is unconstitutional and that “the district court erred in not enjoining an almost total ban on semiautomatic centerfire rifles” for young adults. The decision can be found online at FPCLaw.org.
Will Anti-Gunners Resort to Violence If the Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Gun Rights in Bruen?
By Theresa Inacker and Peter B. Elias
The reaction to the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization has been one of violence and threats of violence by its supporters. Ironically, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted a “call to arms” on May 9. This is remarkable coming from Chicago’s anti-gun rights Mayor. The political ideologues who are calling for violence and a “call to arms” are the same gun control fanatics who seek to deny Americans the right to armed self-defense.
Baltimore Sun: Compelled Speech is a ‘Common Sense’ Price Gun Sellers Should Pay for the RKBA
Constitutional rights are always a balancing act. The right to free speech famously is offset by the threat posed by falsely yelling, “Fire!” in a crowded theater, which could provoke a potentially deadly stampede for the exits. But if gun rights advocates want the public — particularly the non-gun-owning part of the population — to develop some empathy toward their circumstances, they ought to welcome the chance to demonstrate that they can act responsibly.

Gun Review: Rock Island Armory TPAS Pump Shotgun
I love shotguns, and I love historic firearms. You mix the two, and I’m a fan. I’m quite fond of ‘Trench’ guns and ‘Riot’ guns from a historic and shotgun appreciation perspective. Most actual historic shotguns are quite pricey, and they aren’t guns I’d torture and enjoy. This is why modern replicas like the Rock Island Armory TPAS are guns that I can’t help but love.
What does TPAS stand for? I have no earthly idea.

Biden’s ATF Nominee is Another Naked Attempt to Weaponize Law Enforcement Against Gun Owners
From the Firearms Policy Coalition . . .
Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced today it has sent a letter to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary demanding that it “exercise its constitutional authority, and moral duty, to withhold consent” of President Biden’s nomination of Steve Dettlebach for the position of Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
“FPC not only opposes President Biden’s nomination of Steve Dettelbach to lead the ATF, we condemn his nomination as yet another naked attempt to weaponize federal law enforcement against peaceable gun owners nationwide,” reads the letter, which is authored by Matthew Larosiere, FPC policy counsel.
The Science is Settled: Study Shows Red Flag Laws Don’t Reduce Violent Crime or Suicides
By Thomas E. Gift, MD
“Red flag Laws”, which allow police to seize the firearms of people accused of being at risk to misuse them, have been passed in 19 states. Do they do what proponents say they do? A recent study by Veronica Pear, PhD and Garen Wintemute, MD, and co-authors says the answer is clearly, “No”.
The study was published as “Firearm Violence Following the Implementation of California’s Gun Violence Restraining Order Law” on JAMA Network April 5.
Canes Look a Lot Like Rifles in Arizona and That’s That
A day after a Kingman [Arizona] school was placed on lockdown following an unconfirmed report of a man with a firearm in the vicinity, Bullhead City police were notified by two callers of a man walking with a rifle in the area of several Bullhead City schools.
It turns out that Friday’s calls apparently were in reference to a man on Hancock Road with a walking stick, not a firearm.
