Things That Don’t Suck: 5.11 AMP12 25L Backpack

Wed, 04/27/2022 - 12:00

I’ve been carrying 5.11’s AMP12 as an everyday carry pack for the last six months or so. That means it’s been with me in the car, in coffee shops, at shooting ranges, on planes…virtually everywhere I’ve been since last September. In that time, it’s done everything I’ve needed it to do, and then some.

The AMP in AMP12 means “all mission pack.” It’s so modular and configurable that it’s hard to think of an application for which the AMP12 won’t work.

The homeowner retrieved a gun and, by the time she checked again, the burgalr was in her garage. She tried to warn him off, but Martin Lee Johnson didn’t leave.

As kare11.com reports, the homeowner and her son repeatedly warned the burglar to leave .

Elon Musk’s Acquisition of Twitter Is a Good Thing for Gun Owners….Probably

Tue, 04/26/2022 - 14:00

By Lee Williams

Gun owners have never had a level playing field on Twitter or any other social media platform. It seemed like someone was looking over your shoulder – and someone always was.

Anyone who has posted support for the Second Amendment on Twitter for any length of time — I’ve had an account since 2013 — has more than a few horror stories about how they were mistreated by the platform’s “community standards” apparatchiks.

Self-Defense and the Law: How Well Can You Articulate?

Tue, 04/26/2022 - 12:00

Armed self-defense is legal everywhere in America. Even in New York. Even if you’re black, Latino, gay, transgendered, Muslim or maybe all of the above simultaneously.

But no matter where it happens, the color of your skin, who you worship, or who you sleep with, the legal aftermath of using deadly force in self-defense can become a minefield. Prosecutors or personal injury lawyers may play dirty in an effort to either put a good person in prison in order to score political points among their constituents or to maybe hit a big payday in a civil trial.

Safety Tip: How to Survive a Public Shooting Range Session

Mon, 04/25/2022 - 16:00

By Nick Savery

When I first started shooting I began at a public indoor range. I wasn’t a member of a club and I didn’t have any guns of my own to shoot. I practiced with rented firearms, shooting in a lane alongside lots of other shooters.

While waiting for Massachusetts to process my paperwork and to convince my parents to let me store a gun or two in the house (I was a college student at the time) I spent a significant amount of time at the range.

What You Need To Consider If You Have Different Guns For Home Defense And Everyday Carry

Mon, 04/25/2022 - 14:00

Defending yourself away from home and defending your castle are two different tasks, and for many people, that suggests different tools. But if you use different guns for home and personal defense out in the world, there are some factors to consider to find the best guns for the job.

Regardless of your choices, the most important factor is familiarity and training with a particular weapon.

The provisions for better ammunition capacity, more precision, maneuverability, and ammunition choice won’t matter much if you can’t operate your home-defense gun(s) under stress.

You Make the Call: Is Maryland’s AG Ignorant or Dishonest on ‘Assault Weapons’?

Mon, 04/25/2022 - 10:00

By Rob Morse

Maryland’s Attorney General Brian Frosh filed a recent amicus brief with the US Supreme Court justifying the state’s ban of modern sporting rifles because those weapons have sometimes been used to commit mass murder. The ban is being challenged in Bianch v. Frosh a case seeking cert by the high court.

As the Mountain States Legal Foundation describes the case . . .

Maryland outlaws many common semiautomatic rifles, on the premise that these are “assault weapons” ordinary citizens should not own.

Anti-Gunners Are Trying to Decide Just How Bad the Ruling in NYSRPA v. Bruen Will Be

Sun, 04/24/2022 - 08:00

You wouldn’t think that you could write an article about the potential outcomes of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen without talking to at least one person on the plaintiffs’ side of the case, but the hacks at Fast Company managed to do just that.

Even if the court rules in favor of the plaintiffs, it’s hard to predict how broad its decision may be.

Sat, 04/23/2022 - 15:00

By Sean Murphy, AP

Wayne Shaw seemed to have all the conservative credentials needed to win reelection to his state Senate seat in Oklahoma two years ago. The mild-mannered pastor with deep ties to the community had a solidly conservative voting record during his eight years in office.

But when Shaw, as chair of the Senate Public Safety Committee, declined to hear a bill to allow people to carry guns into bars, he drew the ire of an unemployed truck driver who was passionate about gun rights.
