Happy 4/20: Florida’s Nikki Fried Is Suing the Biden Admin, ATF Over 4473 Marijuana Prohibition

Wed, 04/20/2022 - 09:56

By Lee Williams

Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried has always been a bit of an enigma in the Sunshine State. She’s the only Democrat elected to statewide office. She’s running for governor against a popular Republican incumbent, Gov. Ron DeSantis, if she can make it through a tight Democratic primary. Her office oversees Florida’s Concealed Weapon and Firearm Licensing program, and she’s a former lobbyist for the cannabis industry and a vocal cannabis advocate.

David Hogg Is Really Very Angry at Democrats Right Now

Wed, 04/20/2022 - 08:00

The struggle for the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress to enact any meaningful legislation to enhance gun safety reflects how the party’s ambitious agenda has been frustratingly stunted by internal squabbling, the persistence of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The almost complete Republican opposition to Democratic priorities, including gun rules, has hobbled a party with razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate.

But that’s little solace to gun safety advocates and tens of thousands of shooting victims who were told Democrats would reduce gun violence if given the chance to govern.

ATF eForm 4’s Mean More People Buying More Suppressors and Getting Them Much Faster

Tue, 04/19/2022 - 16:00

You can’t watch a video like the one above from SilencerCo and not want a can. Put a suppressor on a rimfire pistol or rifle and you have endless hours of hearing-safe shooty fun in your future. That’s something pretty much anyone can get behind. What far fewer people are willing to get behind is a nine- to twelve-month wait to get an NFA permission slip from our dear friends at the ATF.

Here’s Some Truth About Guns for the Factually-Challenged Hosts of ‘The View’

Tue, 04/19/2022 - 14:02

No one watches ABC’s ‘The View’ for factual Second Amendment news. But the gaggle of progressive television hosts got plenty wrong during a conversation about Second Amendment rights and recent criminal shootings perpetrated by people breaking the law.

The hosts are known for their extreme gun restriction beliefs. This particular discussion included Joy Behar bloviating about how the U.S. Supreme Court was “poised to pass a bill” that would force New York to “be an open carry state, and an open carry city,” among other nonsense.

Gun Review: Grand Power P40L 10mm Pistol

Tue, 04/19/2022 - 12:00

Fourteen plus one rounds of 10mm, 5″ barrel, and a single-action trigger to make 1911 fanatics rethink their devotion. That’s what the Grand Power P40L offers, but this pistol isn’t for everyone, as we’ll get into shortly.

Before diving too deep, I must declare that I’m a bit of a Grand Power fan. The photo below is most of my personal collection, minus the one that was holstered and on my hip. I’ve run Grand Power guns for years including trips to Front Sight and Thunder Ranch and I carry the K100 model during cooler months.

Anti-Gun Politicians Lie About Violent Crime Because Telling the Truth Is Politically Costly

Mon, 04/18/2022 - 14:00

By Rob Morse

Last month, a man murdered his three daughters, ages 9, 10 and 13 in Sacramento, California. He also murdered the court-ordered chaperone who was supervising their visit. The murderer then shot himself. He used a modern rifle.

Democrat Governor Gavin Newsome called it, “Another senseless act of gun violence in America – In a church with kids inside – Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and their communities.”

Democrat State Attorney General Robert Bonta said, “We need to enforce more of the laws that we have.

After Arming Terrorists in Afghanistan, Biden Moves to Disarm Law-Abiding Americans

Mon, 04/18/2022 - 12:00

By Lee Williams

Among the $80 billion worth of high-tech weaponry Joe Biden gifted to the Taliban after his inept and deadly Afghanistan withdraw were 176 artillery pieces, 64,363 belt-fed machine guns, 126,295 handguns and of course 358,530 select-fire assault weapons – real assault weapons.

Most of the assault rifles were equipped with high-end optics. Many had IR lasers, which aren’t much good without night-vision gear. However, Biden also left behind 16,035 sets of NVGs.

New Orleans Man Distracts Armed Carjackers Before Opening Fire and Escaping

Mon, 04/18/2022 - 10:00

A New Orleans man had just parked his car when two wannabe carjackers pointed a gun at him and demanded that he give them his keys. He did, but that seems to have distracted the two yoots who weren’t ready for what else was about to be headed their way.

As nola.com reports . . .

The man told police he flung his keys, took cover under a nearby car and pulled out a pistol.

Cornell: A Radical Libertarian View of Gun Regulation Will Mean Anarchy in America

Mon, 04/18/2022 - 08:00

Over the course of generations, gun rights advocates have embraced a radical libertarian ideology that does not expand liberty for Americans, it undermines it. And though [former solicitor general Paul] Clement, [Justice Samuel] Alito and [Rep. Marjorie Taylor] Greene style themselves as defenders of the original vision of the U.S. Constitution, the authors of the Second Amendment were not opponents of gun regulation, but heirs to a long tradition of regulating arms in the public square.

Expansion Industries May Be the Light at the End of the Tunnel Reloaders Have Been Hoping For

Sun, 04/17/2022 - 16:00

Reader C. Allen Cody, Jr. writes . . .

Why are ammunition primers scarce? Collusion? Gun Control? Price Controls? Revolution? No one knows for sure, but what we do know is that ammunition primers have been, and will remain, scarce, and there will be limited availability until later this year at the earliest.

Two corporations in the shooting sports arena – Olin Corporation and Vista Outdoor, Inc. – have a corner on the market for ammunition primers, at least here in the US.

Chipman: The Brooklyn Subway Shooting Illustrates Why ‘Ghost Guns’ Must Be Banned

Sun, 04/17/2022 - 08:00

“Here is the perfect example for why this (ghost gun) rule was needed,” said David Chipman, the Biden administration’s first nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives. “I think you would be hard-pressed to find an argument against a (serial number) requirement based on what happened in New York.”

Jim Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the James case is a striking illustration of the need for regulation of untraceable firearms amid spiraling violent crime.

How I Came to Love and Appreciate the Anti-GLOCK

Sat, 04/16/2022 - 16:00

Reaser Thomas Lemonds writes . . .

My very first handgun was a GLOCK 17 and it was that firearm that ignited my love for shooting. I bought it at the start of the post-Sandy Hook ammunition famine. While my local range usually had ammo, it was expensive and in short supply. Still, I found that I really liked shooting and as my interest deepened, I tried to educate myself through various magazines and web sites (thanks TTAG!).

Suspect in Boulder Grocery Store Shooting Ruled Incompetent to Stand Trial, But That Might Change

Sat, 04/16/2022 - 13:00

By Colleen Slevn, AP

A judge ruled Friday that a man charged with killing 10 people at a Colorado supermarket last year is still mentally incompetent to stand trial, further delaying court proceedings in the case.

But the judge also said that assessment could change soon.

Experts at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo have said there is a substantial probability that Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 22, can be restored to competency within the “reasonable future” and remain competent by taking medications, Judge Ingrid Bakke said during a brief hearing.

Rep. David Smith: Open Carry in Florida Would Spook the Foreign Tourists

Sat, 04/16/2022 - 08:10

Open carry is publicly wearing a sidearm wherever you want in the state. … And there are some states that have it. I don’t believe open carry is right for Florida. Why? Because those European tourists spend, you know, seven times as much…South American tourists spend four times as much as American.

Our economy…does everybody like not having an income tax in Florida? Yeah. So we have a sales tax and our economy is tourism.
