Manhattan DA Tries to Dodge Blowback After His Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Memo to Prosecutors Went Public

Wed, 01/12/2022 - 08:00

To review: [Manhattan DA Alvin] Bragg calls out five provisions of criminal law.

Two of the provisions cover only gun crimes.

The third covers only “deadly weapons,” like knives (not pork chops).

The fourth covers only the actual use or immediate threat with a dangerous instrument.

The fifth covers only the actual use of physical force, not the threat of physical force.

UC Davis Study Reveals What Happens to a Disarmed Populace

Tue, 01/11/2022 - 12:00

By Lee Williams

California is a violent place, despite having some of the most stringent anti-gun laws in the country.

A new study by the University of California-Davis Firearm Violence Research Center is damning. It reveals that millions of adults in the Golden State have had at least one exposure to what the anti-gun researchers call “experiences of violence” or EVs.

“Research on violence exposure emphasizes discrete acute events such as direct and witnessed victimization.

Prohibitionists’ Dreams: If Only We Could Make All The Guns Disappear . . .

Mon, 01/10/2022 - 16:00

By Mike McDaniel

Many readers are, I’m sure, familiar with the Tuelller Drill.  In 1983, police officer Dennis Tueller conducted research that revealed that an assailant armed with a knife can close 21 feet and inflict deadly wounds on a police officer before he can draw, fire and hope to stop the attacker. Obviously, an attacker armed with a sword can do the same at greater distance or in a shorter time due to the length of their blade.

Home Defense in the UK: Singing the Praises of a .50 Cal. Air Pistol for Self-Defense

Mon, 01/10/2022 - 14:00

Here in America, we giggle at the muzzle energy and defensive performance of the .25 Auto round. In the land once known as Great Britain, where gun control long ago went from the stupid to the ridiculous, her royal highness’s subjects would welcome something chambered in .25 as a game-changer for defensive purposes compared to what government edicts “allow” them.

Col. Cooper was no fan of .25 Auto, writing . . .

“Carry a .25 if it makes you feel good, but do not ever load it.

‘Just call the police’: The Insufferable White Privilege of Gun Control Advocates

Mon, 01/10/2022 - 12:00

By Patrick Carroll

The concept of privilege gets a bad rap in many circles, and understandably so. Many have taken it way too far, using it as a means of bullying their political opponents into submission. But while the excesses of this rhetoric are certainly problematic, I don’t think we should do away with the concept entirely. Behind all the moral grandstanding lies a kernel of truth, one that can provide some valuable insights if applied correctly.

Poor Victim Selection: Armed Merchant Shoots Back, Repeatedly [VIDEO]

Mon, 01/10/2022 - 10:00

Armed robbers are basically bullies, using a firearm as a tool to intimidate their victims into compliance. Like most bullies, when they face someone on an equal or superior playing field, they tend to retreat. Usually rather urgently.

Leaked Reality has surveillance video of an armed robbery at a cluttered little antique shop. The video has no information as to the location or date of the robbery, but it surely looks as though the robber was protecting himself from COVID with a face diaper.

Anti-Gun Researchers Can’t Prove Higher Gun Sales Caused More Homicides, But They’re Not Letting That Stop Them

Mon, 01/10/2022 - 08:00

As clear as the link between new guns and gun violence appears, the difficulty comes in trying to show a connection to the rise in homicides specifically, as the ATF’s data do not enable the sort of precision researchers would need to confirm that link.

The ATF’s data do not specify time to crime for the subset of firearms that were recovered in homicides; everything is grouped together and cannot be disaggregated.

Alec Baldwin Calls Reports He’s Not Cooperating With Shooting Investigation ‘Bullshit’

Sun, 01/09/2022 - 16:00

Alec Baldwin said Saturday that any suggestion he’s not complying with the investigation into last fall’s deadly shooting on a New Mexico film set is a lie.

At issue is a search warrant for Baldwin’s cellphone, which authorities hope can provide information helpful in the probe. Baldwin was holding a revolver during a rehearsal for his movie “Rust” on Oct. 21 when it fired, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding the film’s director.

Primary Arms Optics Announcing New 2022 Products Virtually This Year

Sun, 01/09/2022 - 13:00

As the SHOT Show draws closer, more companies have announced that, given the Omicron surge, they’ve decided not make the trip to Las Vegas next week. Companies like SIG Sauer, Beretta (and their other brands including Steiner, Burris, Stoeger and Benelli), 5.11, Safariland and others have made the decision that exposing their employees to a week of exhibiting and hand-shaking fist-bumping tens of thousands of SHOT Showgoers isn’t a good idea right now.

First, Do No Harm: Dispelling Progressive Fantasies About a World Without Guns

Sat, 01/08/2022 - 16:00

By Rob Morse

The gun-control lobby started it. Then the legacy media joined in and told us that guns and gun owners were dangerous. Their solution is to register and regulate guns and gun owners. They claim their gun control will somehow, someday, take the guns out of the hands of criminals.

If you only read the words, you might be persuaded. Let me fill in the facts that the gun prohibitionists leave out.

A Layperson on Crypto Trading: Use Crypto Pay For Your Guns & Ammo

Sat, 01/08/2022 - 13:00

In recent days, Rob McNealy shared a five-part series on crypto currencies here. I read them, enjoyed them, and found them pretty much spot-on from my own experiences.  I haven’t founded a cryptocurrency and have no particular dog in the fight, so here’s the take of a relative novice layperson with almost a year’s experience in the crypto universe.

Yes, my name is John and I enjoy trading crypto. I’d describe it as a constant roller coaster ride of thrills, loops and gut-wrenching drops…including the one we’re in right now as I write this.

Chicago ‘Electronic Home Monitoring’ Program Gives Accused Criminals 48-Hour Free Passes

Fri, 01/07/2022 - 16:00

Criminal justice reform in Illinois has ensured that most violent criminals are back out on the street after an arrest with little or no bail. The worst of the arrestees get unbelieveably stringent requirement of being saddled with “electronic home monitoring” which is supposed to keep them where they can’t victimize others.

That sounds good, except for one thing…thanks to Illinois’ new “bail reform” bill, there’s no criminal penalty for leaving home while you’re being monitored.
