The Truth About Guns

Calibers for Beginners: 10mm Auto
The 10mm Auto is a cartridge with an unusual history. It’s one of the few that has gained a reputation as both too powerful and not powerful enough for regular use by a variety of end users. In this article we will look at the 10mm Auto both in the past and how it sits today in the mind of the shooting public. We will also look at what it is and what it isn’t for the new shooter.

Anti-Gunners Are Trying to Decide Just How Bad the Ruling in NYSRPA v. Bruen Will Be
You wouldn’t think that you could write an article about the potential outcomes of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen without talking to at least one person on the plaintiffs’ side of the case, but the hacks at Fast Company managed to do just that.
Even if the court rules in favor of the plaintiffs, it’s hard to predict how broad its decision may be.
Pro-Gun Group’s Increasing Power and Influence Upsets All the Right People in Oklahoma
By Sean Murphy, AP
Wayne Shaw seemed to have all the conservative credentials needed to win reelection to his state Senate seat in Oklahoma two years ago. The mild-mannered pastor with deep ties to the community had a solidly conservative voting record during his eight years in office.
But when Shaw, as chair of the Senate Public Safety Committee, declined to hear a bill to allow people to carry guns into bars, he drew the ire of an unemployed truck driver who was passionate about gun rights.
Hurry Up, Elon: Twitter Warns Users Who Try to View Content From Stephen Gutowski’s ‘The Reload’
The Reload is journalist Stephen Gutowski’s year-old Substack subscription venture that features, as he describes it, “sober, serious reporting on–as well as analysis of–firearms policy and politics to accomplish those goals. No hot takes. No screaming. No manipulating. Just reporting.”
If you’ve ever read any of Gutowski’s free content, you know that’s exactly what he puts out. We here at TTAG take a slightly more pointed approach to all things gun-related, but that’s OK.

Florida Man Shootout Shows Why No One Needs More Than 10 Rounds in a Magazine. Or An AR-15
We lost track of all of the civilian disarmament advocates who’ve argued over the years that no one needs more than 10 rounds in a magazine. Hell, some in Oregon even wanted to declare handguns that hold more than 10 rounds “assault weapons.”
Speaking of weapons of war, those things obviously have no use at all in a personal defense roll. We’ve been informed of that repeatedly.
But now comes the story of a Florida man — sorry, Florida Man — who used not one, but two scary black rifles, along with a pistol, to repel a deadly attack a couple of weeks ago.
One Year Hunting With the M48 Nosler Custom Handgun
The 2021-2022 hunting season was the best in my life so far, and very possibly the best I’ll ever have. I got a lot of my “firsts” and a few of my “bests” over that trip around the sun. Those experiences were made all the better because, for the vast majority of those hunts, I did them with the M48 Nosler Custom Handgun in 7mm-08.
I detailed the Model 48 in my previous review.

All About The XM157 Next Generation Fire Control System for the XM5 Rifle
Now that we know what rifle the Army has selected to replace the M4 for troops in combat roles, February’s news that Vortex won the XM157 NGSW Fire Control System competition makes a lot more sense. When I first heard “fire control system,” I thought they were talking about the trigger mechanism (fire control group) or maybe a lower receiver design, but that’s not at all what the XM157 is at all. It’s a revolutionary smart optic and communication system that will greatly lower the skill needed to get the most out of the XM5 rifle and the 6.8x51mm hybrid round.
Congress to Biden: It’s the Crime, Stupid
Frustration with President Joe Biden’s “stuck-on-repeat” gun control focus that lets criminals run rampant is boiling over in Congress. Republican leaders in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives are telling The White House that they are ignoring a crime crisis to push a radical gun control agenda.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote a letter to President Biden to end partisan attacks to advance a gun control agenda.

The XM5 and 6.8×51 Ammunition Will Be a Decisive Advantage. U.S. Allies Should Adopt It, Too
In yesterday’s press conference announcing SIG SAUER’s victory in the Next Generation Squad Weapon competition, Army officials said America’s likely future adversaries were a key factor in the final choice. The XM5 (a variant of the SIG MCX) and the XM250 machine gun run the recently-developed 277 SIG FURY hybrid steel/brass cartridge. It’s some spicy stuff.
The round’s 80,000 psi pressure can push a 135-grain bullet to velocities of 3,000 feet per second.
Gear Review: Primary Arms GLx 2X Prism Sight With Gemini 9mm Reticle
I know pistol caliber carbines are most often paired with red dots, but I’ve long advocated minimally magnified optics that get you closer to the target. I love the red dot, but the Primary Arms GLx 2X prism fits right in as my ideal PCC optic. The GLx 2X comes outfitted with the ACSS Gemini 9mm reticle, and it allows you to reach out and touch targets with 9mm projectiles with precision beyond normal ranges.
WA Supreme Court Unanimously Upholds State’s Preemption Law, Strikes Down City of Edmonds’ Safe Storage Law
From the Second Amendment Foundation . . .
In a unanimous decision today, the Washington State Supreme Court has ruled plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed by the Second Amendment Foundation against the City of Edmonds for violating the state’s firearms preemption law, which the Court upheld, have standing to bring the action.
Writing for the Court, Chief Justice Steven C. González stated, “We hold that the plaintiffs have standing and that this ordinance is preempted by RCW 9.41.290.
Meet Michael Bloomberg, the ‘Modern Day Paul Revere of Gun Violence’
There was a sense of Back to the Future in New York City when current Democratic Mayor Eric Adams was joined by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg for an announcement. Bloomberg, of course, is the failed presidential candidate and hypocritical billionaire subsidizer of anti-Second Amendment gun control groups Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.
Mayor Adams largely won office by campaigning on getting tough on crime and made news when he let it be known he’d carry a concealed firearm in office and forgo the mayor’s security detail.
Home Invader Shot After Breaking In Through 2-Year-Old’s Bedroom Window
What happens when you wake up to the sound of broken glass and find someone crawling into your apartment through a window? If you’re armed, you do what a Hermitage, Tennessee man did.
Fifty-year-old Carlos Clark allegedly thought that breaking into a home where a man and his two-year-old son were sleeping would be a good way to appropriate some cash and/or loot. He thought wrong.
According to wkrn.com .
SIG SAUER Awarded Army Contract To Built Its Next Generation Squad Weapons, the XM5 and XM250
Like any huge government bureaucracy, the U.S. military tends to be slow to change. They kept the same pistol from 1911 until 1985. They’ve basically been running variants of the M16 in most roles since the Vietnam war. So when we say that the Army’s choice of a new squad rifle is a “once in a lifetime” piece of news, that isn’t much of an exaggeration.
Yesterday they announced the culmination of a years-long process with the adoption of the new MCX-SPEAR XM5 rifle (which will replace the M4 over time) and SIG-LMG M250 machine gun (replacing the M249 SAW).
