Gun Review: JP Enterprises JP-5 Roller Delayed 9mm Carbine

Fri, 12/24/2021 - 16:00

I have recently started to look into the competition world. I’ve been unsure what discipline I want to shoot, but PCC competition has really appealed to me. I love PCCs. I mean, I love them a ton.

I looked into USPSA PCC comp, and that led me to JP Enterprises who makes the GMR-15. The GMR-15 is the top-tier competition PCC, but it’s likely to be unseated by the JP-5. The JP-5 from JP Enterprises mixes the best features of Stoner’s rifles with the roller delayed system we all know and love from the MP5.

Things that Don’t Suck: FRED Hollowgraphic 3D Cardboard Targets

Fri, 12/24/2021 - 12:00

When it comes time to switch up your training, it’s easy to try new drills, new positions, new guns, and the like. Have you ever thought about changing your targets? I do, all the time. I go from paper targets to gongs and easy ground-based reactive targets.

I view training a lot like exercise, and I like to change it up so it doesn’t get stale. New targets do that, so I my interest was piqued when I stumbled across FRED Hollowgraphic 3D targets.

Stray Round From LA Police Kills a 14-Year-Old Girl in Clothing Store Shooting

Fri, 12/24/2021 - 10:00

By Stefanie Dazio, AP

Los Angeles police fatally shot a 14-year-old girl who was in a clothing store dressing room Thursday when officers fired on an assault suspect and a bullet went through the wall and struck the girl, authorities said.

Police also fatally shot the suspect Thursday morning at a Burlington store in the North Hollywood area of the San Fernando Valley, police said.

Witnesses told KCBS-TV that a man began acting erratically, threatening to throw items from the upper floor, and attacked a woman with a bicycle lock shortly before noon as the store was crowded with holiday shoppers.

Anti-Gun Big Banks Were the Big Losers After Texas Law Upended Municipal Bond Underwriting

Fri, 12/24/2021 - 08:00

The lucrative Texas municipal-bond market, second only to California in terms of issuance, has been turned on its head since a law took effect Sept. 1 that bars state entities and local governments from working with firms if they “discriminate” against firearms companies.

With some of Wall Street’s largest banks having halted public-finance transactions in Texas because of the legislation, Jefferies is leading firms that have seen their business surge.

Gun Review: Charles Daly AR 410 Upper Receiver

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 16:00

You gotta love the AR-15 as a platform. Even if it can be a bit of a bore in terms of everyone making one, it’s such an adaptable, flexible, and ever-evolving platform.

It’s one of the few designs I can actually call a platform without feeling a little cringey. That’s mainly because it can be a rifle, a pistol, and even a shotgun. Yep, a shotgun. And today as the title implies, we are reviewing the Charles Daly AR .410 upper receiver.

SHOTS FIRED: Gunfire Exchanged While Anti-Gun Illinois Senate Majority Leader is Carjacked

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 15:30

Another day, another slew of carjackings in Chicagoland. The difference: Tuesday evening, none other than Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford (D-Hillside) and her husband became victims of the violent crime that infests Chicago.

Between Lightford’s husband — who has a carry license — and the three masked bad guys, fifteen rounds were fired during the carjacking. Lightford and her husband weren’t injured, but she lost the car and her purse.

Of course, in her mind, she’ll probably return to Springfield in a couple of weeks and demand…more gun control.

Kim Potter Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Accidental Shooting Death of Daunte Wright

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 14:02

By Amy Forliti and Scott Bauer, AP

Jurors on Thursday convicted a suburban Minneapolis police officer of two manslaughter charges in the killing of Daunte Wright, a motorist she shot during a traffic stop after she said she confused her gun for her Taser.

The jury deliberated for about four days before finding former Brooklyn Center officer Kim Potter guilty of first-degree and second-degree manslaughter. Potter, 49, faces about seven years in prison on the most serious count under the state’s sentencing guidelines, but prosecutors said they would seek a longer term.

Are You Traveling With Your Gun This Holiday Season? Here’s How To Do It Safely

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 14:00

By Larry Keane

The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates more than 110 million Americans are traveling this holiday season to visit family and friends. That’s not a record high but is significantly above last year’s numbers – 34 percent higher – given that so many Americans stayed home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year saw a record-high number of firearm purchases as more than 21 million Americans passed a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check to buy a gun.

FACT CHECK: No, Shootings Don’t Increase When More People Carry Firearms

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 10:00

By Jon Miltimore

A couple of months ago, The Atlantic published an article written by staff writer David A. Graham that explores the surge of violence the United States experienced in 2020.

Overall the article, which analyzes findings from the FBI’s “Uniform Crime Report,” is quite good. It effectively breaks down what we know and—more importantly—what we don’t know about the latest crime trends in America, which in 2020 saw a record surge in the murder rate amid a broader rise of violence.

After Smash-And-Grab Thefts, Chicago Mayor Rips Businesses For Not Hiring More Private Security

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 08:00

A necessary complement to legal gun ownership is legal recognition of the right to use them, both de jure and de facto. The wide discretion and unpredictability of district attorneys in their decisions to pursue charges against individuals using arms in clear self-defense can cost tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees even when one is acquitted. Additionally, civil courts’ willingness to entertain bogus lawsuits from criminals against their victims presents an additional risk.

‘Experts’ Say a Series of Mistakes Lead to Kim Potter Grabbing Her GLOCK Instead of Her TASER

Wed, 12/22/2021 - 15:00

By Stephen Groves and Kathleen Foody, AP

The suburban Minneapolis police officer on trial for fatally shooting Daunte Wright has said she mistakenly used her gun when she was trying to grab a Taser during a chaotic attempt to arrest the black motorist.

Policing experts say that regardless of Kim Potter’s intent, the fatal shooting was preceded by smaller mistakes or questionable decisions that added up to a dangerous situation as she was training a new officer.

Marlin is Back: Ruger is Shipping Marlin 1895 SBL Lever-Action Rifles

Wed, 12/22/2021 - 13:00

It’s been a long, hard rode for Marlin rifle lovers. After the brand was acquired by the Cerberus bean counters who cobbled together the monstrosity that was once known as the Freedom Group and combined the brand with Remington, the new owners had some, uh, problems with production and quality. Those were eventually ironed out over time, but not without much schmerz, sturm und drang.

When Remington Outdoor finally collapsed into Chapter 7 bankruptcy and the parts were sold off, many in the gun community were thrilled to see a respected company like Ruger get its hands on the venerable Marlin brand.

Newsweek Sounds the Alarm Over an Impending Coup by Power-Mad Armed Republicans

Wed, 12/22/2021 - 12:00

By Lee Williams

There is fearmongering, and then there is Newsweek-level fearmongering.

The once-respected news magazine – which a former reporter recently described as “a painful embarrassment to anyone who toiled there in its golden age,” which is now known for its incendiary click-bait – is at it again, blasting conservatives, gun owners and the Second Amendment, while warning its shrinking über-woke readership of a coming civil war.

A recent story by their science writer, David H.

California’s ‘High Capacity’ Magazine Possession Ban On Hold Pending Supreme Court Appeal

Wed, 12/22/2021 - 10:00

Last month, an en banc ruling by the Ninth District Court of Appeals upheld California’s ban on so-called high capacity magazines…basically any magazine that will hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.

The ruling outlaws the possession of millions of magazines legally bought and owned by law-abiding gun owners in the state, including those shipped in during “freedom week.” That was the period after Judge Robert Benitez struck down the law in 2019 and before a stay of his decision kept it in place until the Ninth Circuit could rule.

Don’t Blame Guns for the Spike in Violent Crime, Blame George Soros’s ‘Legal Arsonists’

Wed, 12/22/2021 - 08:00

Soros prosecutors refuse to enforce laws against shoplifting, drug trafficking, and entire categories of felonies and misdemeanors. In Chicago, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx allows theft under $1,000 to go unpunished. In Manhattan, District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. refuses to enforce laws against prostitution. In Baltimore, State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby has unilaterally declared the war on drugs “over” and is refusing to criminally charge drug users in the middle of the worst drug crisis in American history.
