The Truth About Guns

Judges Don’t Take Well to a Lawsuit Arguing an Elephant in a New York Zoo is a Person
Human judges at the New York Court of Appeals appeared irritated that human attorneys representing an anti-hunting group clogged up their docket to argue that Happy the elephant, an animal in the care of the Bronx Zoo, is not an animal but instead is ‘a person.’
The case has wide-ranging implications on hunting, conservation and animal agriculture communities and for wildlife management from sea to sea.
“If Happy is a person, does that mean that I couldn’t keep a dog?,” Judge Jenny Rivera asked the attorneys representing the Nonhuman Rights Project, Inc.
Bette Midler Encourages Armed Protests of NRA Annual Meetings
No words. I mean…just…wow. Two days ago, outspoken gun control advocate and professional witch, Bette Midler, literally told the world in a tweet to “come armed” in order to protest the NRA conference.
AT THE GEORGE R BROWN CONVENTION CENTER IN HOUSTON TEXAS, THIS WEEKEND. Come armed. https://t.co/QNUJkLGEqh

This is insane on so many levels. Just to pick one, how can she possibly reconcile protesting firearms with firearms?
West Virginia Police Say Woman With CCW Stopped a Mass Shooting, Saved Lives
Charleston Police Department’s Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett credited an unnamed Charleston concealed carry license holder with stopping the threat following a shooting Wednesday evening. Police say Dennis Butler returned after being lectured about speeding through an apartment complex where kids were playing. He parked his car and began shooting at a graduation party with an AR-15.
A woman among the group of 30 to 40 people saw Butler, 37, in his back seat firing on the group.
Cops Now Using Virtual Reality to Train With Their TASERs
By Michael Balsamo, AP
A combative man approaches, moving quickly toward a police officer who pulls out a Taser. The man is wearing a heavy jacket, which could mean the prongs that would generate an electronic current and send him to the ground might not work.
It’s a scenario that’s played out over and over for police officers across the U.S., sometimes with fatal consequences. The scenario was highlighted recently with the police shooting death of Patrick Lyoya, who was shot in the back of the head by an officer in Grand Rapids, Michigan, during a struggle after the officer tried to fire his Taser twice at Lyoya.

Some Californians are Trading Their Guns for Less Than a Half-Tank of Gasoline
There’s an old expression about stupid. Specifically…you can’t fix it. Such is the case on the Left Coast of America where some Californians are trading tools with which they could defend their homes and families for a half-tank of gas as part of a gun buyback scheme under way in Sacramento.
That’s right: Californians can trade a GLOCK for a $50 gas card…or about nine-ish gallons of gas at today’s prevailing prices in the Golden State’s capital city.
Another Parkland? What Took Police So Long to Enter the School in Uvalde?
As more details of tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas emerge, one disturbing thing now stands out: the apparently long, long time it took to end the threat to the children in the school.
For those of us who have had law enforcement training, the events in Uvalde fly directly in the face of what police have been taught since Columbine. Prior to that atrocity, the accepted thinking in law enforcement was to gather a sufficient team, enter the building carefully, and then methodically end any threats using negotiation if possible.
McFarlin: Steve Dettelbach Is Crucial To Fixing America’s Gun Problem
I’ve spent most of my life around guns. As an NRA certified pistol instructor and Army Veteran, I’ve owned and used firearms for over 20 years. And as a Black father who has lost a son, I grieve with the countless families who have felt the toll that gun violence takes on our bodies and communities. I understand, more than most, how grave a threat guns are when they fall into the wrong hands.

SAF: It’s Time for Common Sense in the Aftermath of the Texas School Shooting

Legitimate, law-abiding American gun owners are today as outraged and saddened as everyone else by the horrible acts of a crazed murderer in Uvalde, Texas. The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms join our fellow citizens to grieve the unimaginable loss suffered by the Uvalde community and the citizens of Texas.
The past 24 hours have allowed us to learn far more about the killer and the circumstances surrounding his deplorable act of violence.
Anticipating the NYSRPA v. Bruen Decision? Here’s How to Watch What Happen
By LKB
The most important Second Amendment case in a generation was argued in November. As was covered in the TTAG post-argument analysis, the consensus was that we’ll see NYC’s “may issue” regime (and likely those of the other states that still have one) go the way of “separate but equal.”
There is also a very good chance that the Court will mandate either strict scrutiny or “text, history, and tradition” as the heightened test for evaluating anything that encumbers the right to keep and bear arms.

Walther Announces the New WMP .22 Magnum Semi-Automatic Pistol
This seems to be the year for interesting rimfire pistols. First SIG announced the excellent P322. Now, just in time for NRA, Walther has launched the new WMP 15+1 .22 Magnum pistol.
This isn’t a gussied-up P22. As Walther says . . .
In life, sometimes the unexpected can happen. Whether it’s an opportunity for fun and recreation or maybe even a life-threatening situation, it’s your duty to be READY.
Florida Grandma Has Second Thoughts After Killing a Home Invader
Do you know what you’re legally allowed to do if some guy breaks into your home? How familiar are you with your state’s Castle Doctrine? Oh, and how do you feel about firing not one, but two warning shots?
One Sunshine State home invader found out that he’d chosen the wrong house to break into. On a Sunday afternoon, the Florida Man decided to enter an elderly couple’s home in Orange County. Virginia Morrison, one of the residents, said she tried to beat him away with a broom first, but to no avail.
Sorry, Joe, But Gun Control Laws Aren’t Preventing Mass Shootings In Other Countries
Every time there’s a mass shooting in America, we hear the same tired arguments brought forth against individual gun rights. We’re told that other, more civilized countries have lower rates of civilian firearms ownership and stricter gun control laws, and that this must be the reason there are fewer mass shootings outside the United States.
President Biden made this exact argument in his speech last night following yesterday’s school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Michaelson: The Right to Own a Gun is a Racist, Right Wing Lie
Since [Heller], the Second Amendment has become gospel — literally. In a recently filed amicus brief, Texas Governor Greg Abbott argued that “Texans have long cherished the right that was confirmed by the Second Amendment, but conferred by God.” (Actually, Jesus said, “Put your sword back in its place, for all who live by the sword shall die by the sword.” [Matthew 26:52] But whatever.)
In fact, any day now, the Supreme Court is set to (probably) strike down a New York policy that issues “concealed carry” permits only to people who show that they need a gun for self-defense.
Biden Blames the Gun Lobby, Assault Weapons in Remarks on Uvalde School Shooting
President Biden delivered brief comments this evening on today’s shooting at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The shooter, reported to be 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, allegedly shot his grandmother before opening fire in the school, killing 18 children and three adults. Ramos was reportedly shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent who was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with the shooter.
In his remarks, Biden hit the same notes he’s hit time and time again.
BREAKING: 19 Students, 2 Adults Killed in South Texas Elementary School Shooting
By Eugene Garcia and Dario Lopez-Mills
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says 15 people were killed in a shooting Tuesday at an elementary school.
Abbott says the suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man, also died and was believed to be killed by responding officers. He says 14 children and one teacher were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio.
Abbott says the shooter had a handgun and possibly a rifle.
Gear Review: Nightstick SFL-11GL Shotgun Light and Laser
Pump-action shotguns and lights don’t always get along well. They can be tricky to use, and typically the best way is an entire forend replacement. Surefire started the trend, Streamlight followed, and now Nightstick wants to take up the mantle.
The Nightstick SFL, or shotgun forend light, replaces the pump on your gun with a big, powerful, bright flashlight. Off the bat, the big difference between the SFL and others is the option for a laser.

Ride Share Driver Shoots Her Police Impersonating Attacker…Repeatedly
What do you do if you think someone’s following you? How about if you know they are following you because they’re trying to play Dukes of Hazzard in order to trap you? For one Atlanta woman, the answer was apparently clear: get in a high-speed chase and then shoot the attacker.
A woman driving for a rail-hailing company in Atlanta’s Buckhead area had just dropped off a passenger. As she was trying to leave, a man in another car tried to trap her.
Horsey: Guns in the Hands of Super-Patriotic Militia Members with No Passports are a Clear and Present Danger
A racist with an assault weapon slaughtered 10 people at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, on May 14, but, in the days since, there has been little serious talk about gun control, except from the president and the governor of New York who, because it is their job, are expected to say something.
One reason for this is that the scourge of right-wing terrorism directed at non-white citizens is so appalling that it is hard to focus on anything else.
