Michigan Prosecutor Charges School Shooter’s Parents With Involuntary Manslaughter [VIDEO]

Fri, 12/03/2021 - 11:21

By Corey Williams and Ed White, AP

A prosecutor in Michigan filed involuntary manslaughter charges Friday against the parents of a boy who is accused of killing four students at Oxford High School, after saying earlier that their actions went “far beyond negligence.”

Jennifer and James Crumbley were charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Under Michigan law, an involuntary manslaughter charge can be pursued if prosecutors believe someone contributed to a situation where harm or death was high.

Baldwin: I’m Not Responsible for Halyna Hutchins’ Death

Fri, 12/03/2021 - 10:00

By Andrew Dalton, AP

Alec Baldwin said he feels incredible sadness and regret over the shooting that killed a cinematographer on a New Mexico film set, but not guilt.

“Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but it’s not me,” Baldwin said in an ABC interview with George Stephanopoulos that aired Thursday night, the first time the actor has spoken in depth on screen about the Oct.

Murphy: Good Guys With Guns Stopping Mass Shootings Is Politically Inconvenient

Fri, 12/03/2021 - 08:04

Sometimes, even the experience of being shot is not enough to change a person’s mind about guns. I asked Murphy whether he’s spoken with people like his old House colleague Steve Scalise of Louisiana, the Republican minority whip who was wounded in the 2017 congressional-baseball shooting.

“What’s discouraging about the baseball shooting is that it seemed to harden people’s beliefs, in part because there were good guys with guns,” [Senator Chris] Murphy said.

Gun Confiscation for Dummies: ‘Red Flag’ Laws are Virtual SWATing

Thu, 12/02/2021 - 14:00

By Tom Vaughn MD

‘Red Flag Gun Laws’, or ‘Gun Violence Restraining Orders’ are becoming increasingly popular among opponents of the right to keep and bear arms. Politicians from both major parties seem anxious to use these laws strip Americans of their right to armed self-defense guaranteed by the Second Amendment, as well as their right to due process, guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment.

The premise of these laws is that individuals who are believed by others close to them to present an imminent risk for committing suicide or violence against others can be stripped of their right to have firearms.

The Last Fall

Thu, 12/02/2021 - 12:00

I’ve watched him. We all have.

For years now, his sightings have been topics of conversation. If a neighbor passed him on the dirt road, they’d be sure to stop and tell you, “I saw that big buck running toward your south field yesterday.” Or, “I saw him down by the headwaters, chasing a doe.”

He was always running. And he was always chasing a doe.

His impressive antlers made him easy to identify.

After The Michigan School Shooting, We Need More Gun Control Laws. Apparently.

Thu, 12/02/2021 - 10:00

Maybe time really is a flat circle, because here we are again. Another broken kid — who had raised red flags and alarmed everyone around him — got his hands on a gun and opened fire in his school, killing and wounding people that his sad, damaged psyche had concluded had somehow wronged him.

As if on cue, all of the same familiar faces took the opportunity to blame gun rights supporters — including, of course the NRA — and claim that the Oxford High School shooting is the latest evidence that America needs more gun control laws to stop horrors such as these from happening.

Baldwin: I Didn’t Pull the Trigger on the Gun I Fired, Killing One and Wounding Another

Thu, 12/02/2021 - 08:00

In his first interview since the deadly Oct. 21 shooting, a tearful Baldwin told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos he has “no idea” how the live bullet ended up in the firearm.

“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger,” Baldwin said in a preview clip of the interview released on Wednesday.

“I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never,” he said.

Things That Don’t Suck: SITKA Drifter 110L Duffle Bag

Wed, 12/01/2021 - 17:00

I was heading back to Africa, first to Namibia to try my hand (and luck) at hunting leopard and then to Mozambique for two trips to the Zambeze Delta Safaris‘ Coutada 11. All the trips required a travel bag that was, simply put, form-fitting to limited space in Land Cruisers, helicopters, and small planes.

At the same time, I needed a large enough container to fit in all sorts of hunting equipment, including shooting rests, hard-sided ammo boxes, high-topped shoes for use in swamps, etc, etc.

Baldwin ‘Rust’ Movie Set Shooting Investigators Try to Track Source of Live Ammunition

Wed, 12/01/2021 - 11:00

By Morgan Lee, AP

Authorities pursued new leads Tuesday on possible sources of live ammunition involved in actor Alec Baldwin’s fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of a western movie, as they searched the premises of an Albuquerque-based firearms and ammunition supplier.

The search took place after a provider of firearms and ammunition to the ill fated movie production for “Rust” told investigators that he “may know” where live rounds came from, describing ammunition he received from a friend in the past that had been “reloaded” by assembly from parts.

Bloomberg: First Amendment Exercise Zones Should Be Second Amendment-Free Zones

Wed, 12/01/2021 - 09:00

The National Rifle Association and its elected allies seem to think that [open carry at protests] should be the new normal. They want civilians armed to the teeth in state after state, city after city. As awful as that prospect might be, it is nonetheless gaining traction. Twenty-one states now allow the open and concealed carry of firearms without a permit — a status that gun activists call “constitutional carry.” Six states joined that list this year, most recently Texas in September (despite a majority of residents opposing the legislation).

Gun Review: TARA Aerospace TM-9X 9mm Pistol

Mon, 11/29/2021 - 12:00

Out of Montenegro, TARA Aerospace has introduced the newest version of their striker fired polymer framed duty gun, the TM-9X.

What gets most of the media attention on the TM-9X is the trigger, which is a little different than most. This is a striker fired system that also allows for restrikes like a traditional DA/SA firearm. TARA bills it as the “DARE System.” standing for Double Action Rapid Engagement. Think of it less as DA/SA and more of a double action trigger with a short reset.

Mon, 11/29/2021 - 10:00

Few situations are more volatile than domestic disputes. That’s exactly what took place prior to in a shooting in Lubbock, Texas earlier this month. A scheduled handoff under a custody agreement escalated when the child was not available at the court-ordered time.

Video of the argument and shooting was released over the weekend and has provoked much discussion regarding the circumstances, especially in light of recent decisions in the Rittenhouse and McMichael cases.
