To Protect Itself From the Mainland, Taiwan Must Trust Its People With Arms (Part 2)

Sun, 11/28/2021 - 16:02

You can read part one of this article here

With the events of the last few years, Taiwanese and American officials have been making changes to better protect the island from invasion. Arms purchases, such as the upgraded F-16V fighters, have continued or accelerated.

But mentioned in part one of this article, equipment isn’t enough without training and maintenance. Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has promised to increase military readiness and revealed that U.S.

Things That Don’t Suck: Sentry Armorer’s Kit

Sun, 11/28/2021 - 13:00

“Oh cool, a cleaning kit.” That was what I thought when Sentry sent me the Sentry Armorer’s Kit. I can always use a cleaning kit. Sentry makes all sorts of stuff in the tactical world, this includes the Gunnar belt, a fabulous shotgun pouch, and now I realize some awesome firearm maintenance gear.

When you hear “armorer’s kit,” you might think of a bunch of tools made for working on guns, but this is more about preventative maintenance.

Retired Cop Shot and Killed Protecting San Francisco TV News Crew

Sun, 11/28/2021 - 10:00

By Daisy Nguyen, AP

A security guard has died after he was shot while he protected a San Francisco Bay Area television news crew covering a smash-and-grab theft, part of a rash of organized retail crime in the region.

“We are devastated by the loss of security guard and our friend, Kevin Nishita. Our deepest sympathy goes to Kevin’s wife, his children, his family, and to all his friends and colleagues,” KRON-TV’s vice president and general manager, Jim Rose, said in a statement issued Saturday.

To Protect Itself From the Mainland, Taiwan Must Trust Its People With Arms (Part 1)

Taiwan is increasingly in the news lately. More frequent mainland Chinese military threats to the island, Communist Chinese aircraft violating Taiwan’s airspace, and tough talk toward the United States have made it an increasing topic of conversation, even in U.S. politics.

As the Chinese Communist Party sets Xi Jinping up for an extraordinary third term, they’re working on a re-write of recent Chinese history.

Gun Review: Ruger M77 Hawkeye African in 9.3x62mm

Sat, 11/27/2021 - 13:00

A few years ago, on a south Texas Nilgai hunt with Bill Wilson, a fellow hunter hammered a big boar hog with a Ruger rifle chambered in 9.3X62mm. The absolutely devastating effect the round had on the big running pig was almost comical. I’ve been looking for a Ruger M77 Hawkeye African so chambered ever since.

After a few years of searching, I happened to find one in the gun library of my local Cabela’s.

Fake News: CNN Reports Over 640 Mass Shootings in 2021

Sat, 11/27/2021 - 10:00

By Lee Williams

In an online story published Friday, CNN admits they used data from the debunked Gun Violence Archive to claim there have been 641 mass shootings in the United States during 2021 – an average of 1.94 mass shootings per day.

Think about that – nearly two mass shootings per day. I’m surprised the legacy media had time to cover anything else, such as COVID, Joe Biden’s daily foibles or the tanking economy, since their news crews must have been running from one mass shooting to another every single day, right?

A Liberal Weighs the Costs and Benefits of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms

Sat, 11/27/2021 - 08:00

As a young man I regarded the second amendment as the founders’ biggest blunder. As we head into 2022, my position has flipped — I now believe history may well come to regard it as the most far-sighted thing the founders did, not in spite of its vagueness, but because of it. It’s like a mysterious passage from a sacred text that forces living people to interpret it in a modern context. The founders believed the people needed to be able to defend their free state — with deadly force — whether that refers to a geographical state, or a state of being, or both.

Gun Meme of the Day: Best Case Scenario Edition

Fri, 11/26/2021 - 16:00

Avoid stupid people in stupid places doing stupid things. The best fight — yes indeed — is the one you avoid. Another “meme” that was worth sharing even if it isn’t funny.

On a related note, y’all may have noticed that one of our advertisers at TTAG here is U.S. LawShield. They’re one of the largest and best services in the country providing legal defense for self-defense. “Concealed carry insurance,” if you will, where you pay a small monthly subscription fee and, should you need it, they in return take care of your legal defense.

Despite Internal Turmoil, the NRA Looks Like It’s Winning the Long Game

Fri, 11/26/2021 - 13:06

By Robert Spitzer, State University of New York College at Cortland

No observer of contemporary gun politics could fail to notice a jarring disconnect between the two very different trajectories of the gun rights movement today.

On the one hand, more states are allowing Americans to carry weapons in public without permits, and the gun-rights movement could be on the verge of a major Supreme Court victory. On the other, the National Rifle Association, which advocates on behalf of gun owners, faces an existential crisis that’s mostly due to the NRA’s own missteps.

Insane ‘Animal Rights’ Group Still Suing to Establish ‘Personhood’ for Zoo Animals

Fri, 11/26/2021 - 10:00

By Larry Keane

Thanksgiving next year could look completely different if the Nonhuman Rights Project Inc., an animal rights group, gets its way in a case pending before the New York’s Court of Appeals in 2022.

The animal rights group is suing – again – to extend human rights to animals. In this case, it is for Happy, an Asian elephant that’s been in the care of the Bronx Zoo.

Reynolds: A Shooting Becomes Hate Crime When It Furthers the Approved Narrative

Fri, 11/26/2021 - 08:00

When is a racial hate crime not a racial hate crime? When it doesn’t advance the left’s, and the Democrats’, narrative.

When white teenager Kyle Rittenhouse shot three white men who were violently assaulting him, it somehow got treated by the press and politicians as a racial hate crime. President Joe Biden (falsely) called Rittenhouse a white supremacist, and the discussion of his case was so focused on racial issues that many Americans mistakenly thought that the three men Rittenhouse shot were black.

Gun Meme of the Day: Thanksgiving Party Game Edition

Thu, 11/25/2021 - 16:00

If you haven’t seen these memes before, it’s usually a handful of beloved things all related to a single theme (e.g. different foods, movies, fast food restaurants, etc.) and the challenge is choosing which one you could live without. In this case…um…I think we’d all be thankful to be in a position to make a choice from this selection.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Ford Should Be Thankful They’re Not a Gun Maker

Thu, 11/25/2021 - 13:00

If Ford were a gun company, our betters in politics and the legacy media would be wringing their hands calling for accountability and liability right now. Against all rational thinking, they’d be shrieking on every cable news network that Ford should be sued by the victims of last weekend’s vehicular attack in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where a ridiculously powerful, high-speed Ford Escape killed six and injured at least 60 innocent Christmas parade goers.

They’d tell us that Ford encouraged the criminal misuse of its Escape product through an advertising campaign full of toxic masculinity that explicitly suggests a buyer “MAKE YOUR ESCAPE” with this SUV.

What Not to Do At Thanksgiving Dinner

Thu, 11/25/2021 - 10:00

The sad reality is — these days more than ever — there are people like this in lots of families. People who can’t seem to leave their opinions and politics at home and have a nice time on one of the best holidays of the year. People who think it’s their moral duty to “correct” and “deprogram” others who happen to hold different views.

May your Thanksgiving be free of people like Molly Jong-Fast.

Gun Control Is A Political Loser, But Gun Grabbers Just Can’t Help Themselves

Wed, 11/24/2021 - 16:00

Two major polls came out this past week that show decreasing support for gun control among the American public. Quinnipiac reports that 49 percent of Americans oppose more restrictive gun laws, with only 45 percent supporting them. This is the first time Quinnipiac has found support for more gun control falling below 50 percent in six years.

Gallup found somewhat more enthusiasm for gun restrictions (52 percent). Still, that’s the lowest it’s been since 2014.

BREAKING: 3 Georgia Men Found Guilty of Murder in Killing of Ahmaud Arbery

Wed, 11/24/2021 - 13:06

By Russ Bynum, AP

All three men charged in the death of Ahmaud Arbery were convicted of murder Wednesday in the fatal shooting that became part of a larger national reckoning on racial injustice.

The convictions for Greg McMichael, son Travis McMichael and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan came after jurors deliberated for about 10 hours. The men face minimum sentences of life in prison. It is up to the judge to decide whether that comes with or without the possibility of parole.

The Real Reason Kyle Rittenhouse Shot Three People in Kenosha, Wisconsin (It Wasn’t Racism)

Wed, 11/24/2021 - 10:00

The Rittenhouse shootings took place on the third day of rioting in Kenosha. Authorities, including the Governor, had little or no interest in intervening. Police and National Guardsmen had been pulled back while rioters burned, vandalized and destroyed large swaths of the city. And a volatile, mentally ill sex offender had been released from a hospital earlier that day.

None of the shootings by Kyle Rittenhouse would have occurred if Joseph Rosenbaum hadn’t behaved in a deranged manner.
