Washington Post In Full Politicized Vulture Mode With Publication Gory Mass Shooting Pictures

Fri, 11/17/2023 - 10:00

After recent mass shootings, I’ve seen a particularly unhinged request in comments sections: publish images of the dead. It seemed for months like nobody was going to answer that ugly call, but after warnings from some of the victims’ parents, the Washington Post ran a non-paywalled post yesterday doing just that. I will not be sharing links to it, but it shows a lot of bloody images of school shootings and other attacks.

Gun Meme of the Day: Equal Treatment Edition

Thu, 11/16/2023 - 18:00

There are a lot of versions of this meme (different “comebacks” to the protestor’s sign) and this is my least favorite of them all. But it’s the one I have available LOL. I’ll do better next time.

3 Weird Tricks to Make Your 1911 .45 ACP Pistol More Reliable

Thu, 11/16/2023 - 16:00

The 1911 .45 ACP combat pistol, invented by John Moses Browning, set the groundwork for most modern pistols. It’s a trusted combat handgun that has been used in more theaters of combat than any other weapon. The 1911 is still a popular choice as a self-defense/carry gun to this day, especially for concealed carry due to its slim profile.

So why does the pistol have a reputation for reliability issues? Despite its distinguished pedigree and extensive military service, the 1911s that you can buy from Wilson Combat, Kimber, Staccato, or Ruger, and Springfield Armory aren’t the same 1911 that was originally manufactured by Colt back in the day.

Consumer Virtual Reality is Almost Ready For Serious Firearm Training…Almost

Thu, 11/16/2023 - 14:00

I know some readers, especially the more “old school” ones, will laugh at the idea of firearms training with VR headsets. I get it, because on the surface it sounds silly. In the days that followed the Columbine shooting, journalist Karens were seriously debating whether playing Doom with a joystick might have given the shooters the equivalent of tactical training, which is laughable at best.

Anyone who has actually played first person shooter video games on a PC or console and who has shot actual firearms knows that these two activities have little in common.

Father of the Highland Park Parade Shooter Reports for Jail Sentence Making a Political Statement

Thu, 11/16/2023 - 08:00

The father of the Highland Park parade massacre suspect reported to begin his jail sentence on Wednesday wearing a T-shirt saying “I’m a political pawn,” prompting a Lake County judge to threaten him with contempt of court if he broke court rules again.

Robert Crimo Jr. walked into the Lake County Courthouse wearing the shirt against Judge George Strickland’s decorum rules. The back of the shirt read “Laws, facts, reality.”

By the time Crimo Jr.

Gear Review: Riton 3 Tactix EED Enclosed Red Dot Sight

Wed, 11/15/2023 - 14:00

The hottest thing in optics has been pistol red dots and the hotness within the segment is enclosed emitter designs. These are standard reflex red dot designs that are fully enclosed. The advantage here should be obvious.

The enclosure protects the emitter from dust, dirt, water and other crap that can and does find its way onto and around your handgun when you’re using it. If it gets on your emitter…no visible dot.

Anti-Gunners Who Cheer the NRA’s Demise are Fighting (and Losing) the Wrong War

Wed, 11/15/2023 - 12:00

In the last couple days, a new piece from Newsweek has the anti-gun world excited. Why? Because, it says, the NRA is slowly dying. The usual civilian disarmament suspects like Giffords, March For Our Lives, and Everytown slammed the share button, of course, because they think this means they’re winning. But anyone with an actual understanding of the gun rights world knows they’re getting their hopes up for nothing.

On the surface, there’s appears to be cause to cheer if your goal is to disarm the U.S.

Determining Which People With Mental Health Conditions Should Be Disarmed is No Easy Task

Tue, 11/14/2023 - 16:00

By Arash Javanbakht, Wayne State University

Every time the country is shaken by a tragic mass shooting and the loss of innocent lives, mental illness and its role in the actions of the mass shooter come under scrutiny.

Mental illness again became a central theme after the mass shooting in Maine on Oct. 25, 2023, in which records suggest that the shooter had a history of serious mental health issues.

Why Good Guys With Guns Don’t Aways Come to the Rescue

Tue, 11/14/2023 - 14:00

Want to see some nasty political fighting? Just head to Google or the search box on any social media platform and type in “good guy with gun.” You’ll find all sorts of reasons that guns can and allegedly should be banned, because the victim disarmament industrial complex have made it their job to convince people that good guys with guns either don’t exist or are extremely rare. That, of course, is a lie.

Sometimes, though, the results of that kind of search will turn up someone who almost had a good point.

Tue, 11/14/2023 - 12:01

A United States District Court Judge has ruled that a man convicted of drunk driving almost two decades ago cannot have his gun rights taken away. In 2005, Edward A. Williams was convicted of driving while under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to five years in prison. He was allowed to serve his sentence of 90 days to two years at home because of a medical problem.

That conviction forfeited his gun rights under federal law, 18 U.S.C.

The Simple Truth About Guns, the Second Amendment and the Nature of Our Rights

Tue, 11/14/2023 - 10:00

By Richard L. Guion

The US Constitution is not and can never be used as a limit upon the people. All too often people regard the introductory statement of the Second Amendment, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state…” as a clause upon which the right of the people depends. Nothing could be further from the truth.

As opined in US v. Miller back in 1939, the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that the introductory statement of the Second Amendment specifically protects arms of efficacy to the military for the militia…which is comprised of the people.

Jernalizm: The NY Times’ Bumbling Attempt to Blame an Ammo Maker for Mass Shootings

Mon, 11/13/2023 - 14:00

By Lee Williams

The actual shot-callers behind the Biden-Harris administration’s war on guns and the Second Amendment have certainly been creative in the steps they’ve taken toward achieving their goal of total civilian disarmament.

These unelected bureaucrats have targeted “weapons of war” as they like to call them, which prompted several weak-kneed retailers to strip the country’s most popular rifles from their shelves. Through their toadies at ATF, Team Biden has targeted homemade firearm kits, after-market triggers, pistol braces and more.

Gun Review: Aero Precision SOLUS Hunter Bolt Action Rifle

Mon, 11/13/2023 - 12:00

Aero Precision, the Washington-based company best-known for their AR rifles and parts, got into the bolt business a couple of years ago with their SOLUS short action. It has a Remington 700 footprint, integral 20 MOA rail, removable bolt face, nice machining and a nitrided finish.

No one really expected Aero to stop with just the action and last year, they unveiled two rifles built around the SOLUS short action. The SOLUS Competition rifle is a PRS-type competition chassis gun (review from Jeremy in process).
