Ferfrans CQB Modular Muzzle Brake

Tue, 05/06/2014 - 16:01

Muzzle Brakes are an amazing addition to your rifle, they’re great at reducing recoil and muzzle rise and help speed up follow up shots. They’re not without their drawbacks however, they’re pretty loud as most brakes redirect the sound and muzzle blast to the side or back at the shooter. Some brakes can also kick up dust and dirt while shooting in prone. The Ferfrans CQB Modular Muzzle Brake is a new style of brake that tries to reduce some of these downfalls. The Ferfrans brake comes with what they call a Concussion Reduction Device which is essentially a quick attach/detach shroud that helps redirect concussion and sound forward away from the shooter. While the Ferfrans CQB isn’t the only muzzle brake to come with a shield attachment, theirs is a bit different in that it includes ports which help aid in reducing muzzle climb and recoil. You can see in the videos below that with the Concussion Reduction Device it still does a pretty good job at reducing muzzle rise. They retail for $179.95, check out Ferfrans.net for...

Thumb Over Bore With a Pistol?

Tue, 05/06/2014 - 15:22

So there are tons of methods to shooting a handgun. And lots of debate about what to do with your support hand. Isosceles, Weaver, cup and saucer, grabbing your wrist, thumbs high, thumbs forward etc. The list goes on and on. However this is a first. If you subscribe to the c-clamp/thumb over bore AR style of support hand grip, then I suppose there could be justification for putting your support thumb on top of the slide. But I don’t think putting your thumb on top of the slide is a good idea. A whole new meaning to slide bite.

5 Gun Myths that should die

Tue, 05/06/2014 - 14:11

Caleb over at Gun Nuts posted 5 myths about guns that should just die.

1. Handgun stopping power

2. High bore axis

3. You can upgrade a Mosin in a way that makes it better

4. Competition shooting will get you killed in the street

5. Pistols and shotguns are “safer” for home defense than rifles

He explains more about why these myths should die. Go here to find out what they are.

Company Profile: Targamite LLC, Makers of the TargaBot

Tue, 05/06/2014 - 12:01

Over the last 100 years, there are been monumental advances in firearms. New cartridges, operating mechanisms, gas systems, magazines, and more. However, that same level of technological advancement has not applied to targets. We still shoot the same static targets that our grandfathers did (although we do have splash targets, making them easier to see).

Gun Nuts Media posted an interesting article. Caleb Giddings wrote about how he sets up his guns in real life and that he follows the same ideology when setting up his guns in the virtual world via a video game.

Tue, 05/06/2014 - 06:08

Check out this DIY bumpfire stock for a 10/22 by Fire Mountain Outdoors. The giggles he gets from shooting it is infectious. I had the same laugh and enjoyment my first time shooting a full auto 22LR converted AR.

HIPERFIRE Releases HIPERTOUCH 24 3Gun AR Trigger

Mon, 05/05/2014 - 16:01

HIPERFIRE has released a new trigger, the HIPERTOUCH 24 3Gun (3G) trigger.  This is the same sear geometry as the 24C, but with a more traditional curved bow giving those that like the familiar feel of a curved trigger the ability to get into their competition line of triggers.

As a long time user of HIPERFIRE triggers it is no secret that I fully believe they are one of the best triggers on the market.  I use them in all of my AR’s that require precision shooting including my competition precision rifle.  This is just another great trigger that they are adding to an already impressive lineup. For more information on the new 24 3G, check this link, or take a look at the video below: http://www.hiperfire.com/hipertouch243g.html

M82 Airsoft Gun Uses and Ejects Co2 Cartridges Instead of Brass

Mon, 05/05/2014 - 12:01
The folks at Madbull Airsoft have designed a nifty Barrett M82 airsoft gun that feeds and ejects Co2 cartridges after each shot. Watch the video below: Post by MadBull Airsoft.

Large amounts of Co2 allow the heavy M82-sized bolt to cycle, making the gun more realistic in function and also providing a degree of recoil. The downside is that Co2 cartridges are not cheap at about $0.50 – $0.60 each.

DTAC Mongoose Stock for Mossberg shotguns

Mon, 05/05/2014 - 06:08

The DTAC Mongoose is a minimalist stock system for the Mossberg 500 or Maverick series. It features a quick detachable stock so you can switch to a pistol grip shotgun without the need for tools. The most interesting feature is the unique dual chamber, pneumatic/mechanical recoil reduction system. This offers dramatic felt recoil reduction (about 75% with the heaviest loads), which means comfortable shooting and quicker follow up shots. A tad bit pricey though at $205 MSRP.

If you are interested, check out DTAC for more information.

The Weekend Funny: Opening Beer with a Rifle

Fri, 05/02/2014 - 20:41

I am jealous of Taufledermaus. Yes, I get to play with many guns, and scopes, and cool gear for reviews, but he has high speed cameras and a mastery of multi-media. This is, of course, not counting his never-ending equally bonkers and entertaining ideas. Combine both, and you get videos like the one below.

As you head into the weekend know it is indeed possible to open a beer with a rifle. Just watch the head.

.32 Cal Caselman Air-Powered Machine Gun

Fri, 05/02/2014 - 16:01

The Caselman Air-Powered Machine Gun is an air gun designed to shoot .30 caliber slugs on full auto with approximately the same muzzle energy as a .32 ACP pistol. It was designed by Jeff Caselman in the 1980s as a way for any person to legally own a machine gun, one with enough power for self-defense. In 1990 Jeff sold the plans for the air machine gun for $19.99 and a instructional video on manufacturing it for $59.95. How long he sold these plans for, I don’t know. According to the late Mr. P A Luty, a master improvised gun maker himself, Jeff was never heard from again (although a video was published in 2011 showing a man named Jeff Caselman shooting a prototype air-powered shotgun). Luty took it upon himself to distribute the plans on his website. He called it “revolutionary in concept and design”.

NRA 2014: New from Sightmark, the 1-10×24 Ezekial Scope

Fri, 05/02/2014 - 14:11

At the show, Sightmark showed me the new Ezekial true 1-10×24 scope. Designed for short, medium, and competition shooters, the new scope looked nice and clear on the show floor. Its etched mil-dot reticle was easy to pick up and at 1x, I did not see any notable difference with my eyes at the appropriate relief distance. The show sample was true 1x
