Fri, 05/02/2014 - 12:01

Stag Arms is now offering custom laser engraved rifles to the public.  The engraving is at no extra charge, but does require a 10 rifle minimum.  This is similar to the program offered by SIG SAUER and other companies.

Aliens M41A conversion. Yes it shoots real bullets

Fri, 05/02/2014 - 09:09

Lage Manufacturing made this one off Aliens M41A Pulse rifle. It is a M-11 in 9mm shoved into the body of a M41A Pulse Rifle. They used a Remington 870 AOW/SBS for the grenade launcher portion of the Pulse Rifle. The actual movie prop was based off a Thompson M1A and a Franchi SPAS 12 shotgun. I don’t care what the Lage MFG pulse rifle is made of. It looks really cool and the round counter works. I would love a semi auto version of this.

Love at First Shot

Fri, 05/02/2014 - 06:08

The NRA has teamed up with Natalie Foster and created a tv series focused toward females and shooting. This episode discusses and explains aspects that seem to be concerns for first time female shooters. I think it is a great resource. Any helpful information that can help get more women to the range is great. Back in NY, I volunteered to help with Ladies Day at the Range with my shooting club. I enjoyed teaching women to shoot and get over their nervousness and any hesitation with firearms. Share this video with any women in your life who are still gun shy or taking their first steps into the world of shooting.

The kit works with all semi-auto models and comes with a barrel, bolt carrier group, mag adapter, one 25 round magazine and a dedicated 9mm stock. They retail for $1,499.

Russian Students Field Strip an AK

Thu, 05/01/2014 - 15:22

While American kids are busy occupying their time trying to stack cups or solve Rubik’s cubes as fast as they can, these Russian students are competing in a competition. The goal? To disassemble or reassemble an AK. Just watch the kid at 3:00 min into the video. He is wearing a glove just so he can go faster. It is really impressive to watch. I am a little jealous that my PE classes in High School didn’t have AR field stripping challenges.

New A*B Arms Polymer Handguards

Thu, 05/01/2014 - 14:11

Seems lately everyone is making things in polymer for the AR platform, including lowers.  Having reviewed a polymer lower earlier this year, I can say that polymer is not ready quite yet for a structural part of the firearm like the lower yet.  Maybe in a few years they can perfect it.

Gear Review: Hexmag HX30-AR AR-15 Magazine

Thu, 05/01/2014 - 09:09

Hexmag’s first product on the shooting market is, appropriately, their hexagon-patterned 30 round AR-15 magazine. According to Hexmag literature, the HX30-AR offers an alternative 30 round high impact resistant fiber reinforced polymer magazine design with an anti-tilt follower, USGI spec magazine spring, tool-less disassembly, and the HexID magazine identification system. I received several magazines for testing and evaluation, and my first impressions were good. For an initial offering, the HX30-AR looks great, with a satin-esque finish that I find attractive. The magazines feel sturdy, and well made, with no blemishes on any of the examples I received. The HexID colored followers and spring guides look attractive, and offer a good option for those interested in magazine differentiation, such as law enforcement or civilian users.

NRA 2014: DPMS’ New .308 G2 Compact Hunter & .308 Bushmaster 18″ DMR

Thu, 05/01/2014 - 06:08

Not content with the current G2 .308 offerings this year, DPMS has released the Compact Hunter. Using a 16″ barrel and collapsible stock, the Compact Hunter loses some weight and height to create a svelte smaller package. Sadly, losing the weight kept the price the same. MSRP is $1,699.

NRA 2014: Hands-On with the SISK STAR Rifle Stock

Wed, 04/30/2014 - 16:01

I was able to go hands-on with quite possibly the most customization precision rifle stock ever. The SISK STAR starts as a base receiver upon which everything is bolted on separately. The fore-end, stock, and other pieces are all additions to the receiver. Each piece is fully customizable. The stock is especially notable for its options including length of pull, cheek-piece height, and interestingly – cant.

TAC-CON Releases Media Event Video

Wed, 04/30/2014 - 06:08

Last month I was at the TAC-CON Media Event shooting the new 3MR trigger.  While we were there they hired a local videographer, Lear Miller, to video the event, and come up with a promotional video.  Lear also did the initial video that sent the firearms community into a tizzy over the new trigger system, with the fantastic shots of the trigger system at work, even before anyone knew what the 3MR trigger really was or what it did.  I am happy to say that the video turned out just as cool as the first one.

I do have a full review of the trigger in the works, with some other videos that I have taken coming out soon.  So stay tuned for a full review!
