Sometimes in fishing you just know what’s going to happen even before the first cast is made. There’s a certain feeling of confidence about a place that is just so perfect, so “fishy,” that you can’t fail to connect with bass.
...Smith’s New Edgesport Survival Knife
At SHOT 2015, I saw the first Smith’s knife I’ve ever known. It’s a simple knife that looks well-designed, and certainly had a lot of thought put into the way it’s made
It’s a compact folder with a liner lock and a number of tools built-in. Smith’s Survival Knife has a pocket clip, partially-serrated stainless steel blade, removable fire starter with integrated whistle, and removable tapered diamond rod sharpener.
This new knife is item 50539 and has a MSRP of $19.99.
I think it’s cool that Smith’s has expanded beyond sharpeners, and so far I like the looks of the new stuff they’ve brought out.
Smith’s New Pocket Pal X2 Sharpener and Survival Tool
One new item at the Smith’s SHOT Show 2015 display was the cute little Pocket Pal X2.
...Smith’s New Edgesport 10-N-1 Survival Multi-Tool
When I think of Smith’s, I think of sharpening – and especially of the old Smith’s Tri-Hone three-sided stone sharpener. But these days, the company is expanding outside of the sharpening realm and getting inventive with their new products.
...MAX Force Cleaning Rods – a Rod Revolution?
Cleaning rods. They are usually pretty basic, and there hasn’t been a whole lot of useful innovation in this area for quite a while… until now.
...A Look at the Two Newest Ruger LCR Lightweight Revolvers
The Sturm, Ruger & Company’s line of compact LCR Revolvers has been a hit for the gunmaker since they were introduced a few years ago. ...Nikon Introduces Monarch 5 Line of Rifle Scopes
Nikon introduced their new line of Monarch 5 rifle scopes at the 2015 SHOT Show. The scopes, which company literature calls “…Nikon’s most advanced riflescopes to date,” include features such as ED (Extra Low Dispersion) Glass, fully multi-coated optics, and a five-time zoom range in a nitrogen filled, O-ring sealed, one piece main body tube.
The Monarch 5 line uses either Nikon’s Advanced Ballistic Data Calculator reticle or a more traditional fine crosshair with dot.
The scopes are so new they are not yet listed on Nikon’s Monarch Scope page on the Nikon website, but should be added soon.
Watch Nikon’s Adam Goess as he goes over the other features of the Nikon Monarch 5 line of scopes in this video from SHOT Show 2015.
Mossberg Intoduces New Line of .22 LR Blaze Rifles, Including an AK-47 Lookalike
Mossberg introduced a new line of .22 LR semi-auto rifles at the 2015 SHOT Show. The Blaze line of rifles have polymer receivers and either polymer or wood furniture. While the extensive use of plastic may offend purists the result is a light, handy, plinker.
...QuickCamo – Hunting Face Masks Integrated Into Caps
One of the best things about the SHOT Show is that it puts the “little guys” in the same room as – and sometimes fairly close to – large manufacturers and well-known names in the hunting and shooting world. It’s a great place for a new company to get a leg up.

Savage‘s main attraction at the 2015 SHOT Show was the all-new A17, touted as the first truly viable semi-automatic rifle chambered for 17 HMR.

...The SIG SAUER 10mm P220 Pistol at the 2015 SHOT Show
I got a look at the new 10mm P220 pistols that SIG SAUER recently announced at the 2015 SHOT Show. One version of the pistol is in the classic DA/SA configuration while the other three are SA only with a thumb safety instead of a decocker. Each version uses eight-round magazines.

...A Look at Ruger’s Lightweight Commander SR1911 Pistol
The Ruger SR1911 Lightweight Commander pistol was announced by the company early in January and for most of us our first chance to handle the pistol was at the recently concluded 2015 SHOT Show.
The SR1911 Lightweight Commander is the third pistol in Ruger’s 1911 lineup. The first was the full-size SR1911 that premiered in 2011 and was followed by the all-steel SR1911 Commander in 2013.
The new pistol is designed for carry with a weight of 29.3 ounces (with an empty magazine). This is a savings of about seven ounces off the all-steel Commander and about 10 ounces off the full-size 5″ barreled gun.
I was able to put a couple mags through the SR1911 Lightweight Commander at the 2015 SHOT Show Industry Day on the Range. It was just a taste, but enough to know that I want to get my hands on one to try it more.
For more info watch a Ruger rep go over the features of the pistol in the video.
