Man with a gun stops antisemite with a knife

Tue, 12/09/2014 - 08:32

A madman walks into a synnagogue with a knife, and yells he wants to kill Jews. Who stops him? A man with a gun, a cop in this case.

Police shot and killed a disturbed man after he walked into one of Brooklyn’s most prominent synagogues early Tuesday and stabbed someone there, sources said.

The bloodshed at the world headquarters of Chabad-Lubavitch at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights happened shortly after 1 a.m., sources said.

A Chabad spokesman said witnesses reported that the man said “Kill the Jews,” but police said the man may have said, “I will kill all of you.” One witness told The Post that the man did not talk about killing Jews.

Calvin Peters, 50, walked into the basement of the synagogue, where people were praying, sources said.

“According to witnesses, he was heard saying repeatedly, ‘Kill the Jews!’” Chabad Rabbi Motti Seligson said. “Several other individuals immediately intervened. While we are very pained by everything that has unfolded, we are very grateful to the police for their quick response and are working closely with the authorities in their ongoing investigation.”

Seligson said the victim was Levi Rosenblat, a young rabbinical student from Israel. He’s in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.

Not bad, Wiley X, I like the contrast between the soldier and the civilian, two different men, both shooters.

No Charges For Shooting Naked Man

Sun, 12/07/2014 - 12:33

When someone breaks into your home, you have a right to shoot. When they refuse to leave, you have a right to shoot. When they try to take your gun, you better shoot. That’s my opinion, I’m not a lawyer but the system agrees with me.

GREENVILLE, Mich. (AP) — A western Michigan man who fatally shot a naked, drunken man in his home won’t face charges. The Montcalm County prosecutor says Jess Braman acted in self-defense when he shot 27-year-old John Sherman Russell at his Greenville home in September.Prosecutor Andrea Krause says there’s evidence that Russell presented an immediate danger. She says he refused peaceful requests to leave the home and then attempted to grab Braman’s gun.Braman found Russell asleep on his couch. His blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit for driving. Friends told investigators that he had consumed many drinks at a bar hours earlier and was violent at another home.

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — A 68-year-old Gastonia man says he scared off two men in ski masks trying to break in his home with his gun he can keep on his walker. And then he taped a note to his door saying if they try to break in his house again, he will be waiting on them.

Joseph Sapienza told The Gaston Gazette (http://bit.ly/1vx3JpO ) that he was watching TV Thursday night when he heard someone trying to pry open his door. He says he got his gun, put it in a holster in his walker and shuffled to the front door. He flipped on a light, yelled he was armed and threw open the door.

Sapienza says the men ran away. He says he put up the note to warn any other would-be robbers.

Good Advice for Deer Hunters

Sat, 12/06/2014 - 22:58

I’m not a hunter, so the following has plenty of great tips:

So we are now halfway through the Maryland firearms deer season and you haven’t filled your tag yet. You may be thinking “What am I doing wrong?” You have, after all, been using the latest calls, scents and gadgets that all the magazines and TV shows say you need. You’ve got the fanciest new camo and the best gun you could almost afford. The problem, however, isn’t what you’re using, it’s that you’ve been led astray. There are a million gadgets, quick fixes and magic bullets that promise success. Some even work now and then, at least enough to keep you hooked. But the real keys to being a better deer hunter are both easier and harder than you’ve been told.

Both of these tasks are very simple, but they take time and effort. The first you should enjoy – spend more time deer hunting! Sure, some hunters get lucky their first five minutes in the woods or have a buck come running to that new bottle of scent, but if you want to consistently kill more and bigger deer the first thing to do is spend more time on stand. Hunt every afternoon and weekend you can. Keep going, keep trying, keep learning what the deer are doing and what you need to do to adjust.

Magic tips and tricks may help now and then, but

Gun used against George Wallace on Auction

Sat, 12/06/2014 - 00:09

George Wallace is the infamous supporter of segregation and Democratic Governor of Alabama.

An Illinois auction house is selling the revolver that almost killed former Alabama Gov. George Wallace in a 1972 assassination attempt as he ran for president.

Rock Island Auction Co., which specializes in rare firearms, listed the revolver for sale in a Friday auction. Company vice president Judy Voss said the company’s investigation shows it is the same gun that was used by Arthur Bremer in the shooting.

“There is no doubt,” Voss said.

Voss says the serial number on the gun matches that listed on police reports. Voss says a May 15, 1972, date and initials etched into the gun also match law enforcement records.

Bremer shot Wallace during a Maryland campaign stop for the Democratic nomination for president, which he lost to George McGovern. The shooting left Wallace paralyzed from the waist down and in constant pain for the rest of his life. Bremer at the time said his intent was to gain fame by killing either Wallace or then-President

Warning Shot Saves the Day

Fri, 12/05/2014 - 08:47

I’m not a huge fan of warning shots, but sometimes they work:

LAS VEGAS – Metro Police said they arrested a man who tried to rob a Red Lobster restaurant near Meadows Mall Thursday night.Officers said shortly before 10 p.m. a man with a gun walked into the seafood chain at S. Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive and demanded money.

However, a person in the restaurant pulled out a gun and fired off a warning shot in the air.  Police said that caused the robber to take off.

While fleeing, the suspect dropped the cash register drawer in the parking lot, so all of the money and gift cards was retrieved, according to police.

No one was hurt.  Metro said their detectives combed a large vicinity of the area to find the suspect.

He was taken into custody a short time later

Pro-Gun FSU Student Shot

Thu, 12/04/2014 - 19:39

What “gun-free zones” create:

Nathan Scott is a student at Florida State University in Tallahassee. He has a job working in the school library and is a member of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus at FSU. And he is a (barely) walking example of why his cause is so crucial, after being shot in the library recently and having no way to defend himself.

….

Just after midnight on Nov. 20, 2014, Nathan Scott was shot while working at the FSU library. A disturbed former student with paranoid delusions opened fire with a pistol at the library’s front door. Being unarmed, all Nathan could do was run – as best he could with a bullet wound in his leg – and warn other students. Another student, an Army combat infantry veteran, took cover when the shooting started, and though both he and Nathan Scott had the training, skill, and opportunity to end the attack almost as soon as it began, neither was armed because, being law-abiding citizens, they both were obeying Florida’s law against having a gun on campus. Of course the man randomly shooting people was not impeded in any way by Florida’s “No Guns on Campus” law.
