A political campaign ad that led some media outlets to describe Gabby Giffords as a “mean” and “ruthless attack dog” convinced a Republican congressional nominee on Tuesday to support reforms that prohibit convicted stalkers from owning guns.

A spokesperson for Republican Martha McSally, who is running for the Congressional seat Giffords held before she was shot in the head in 2011, confirmed to the Huffington Post that McSally now supports legislation that would prohibit all people convicted of misdemeanor stalking “from obtaining guns in other states where stalking can also be a misdemeanor.” Currently, federal law prohibits some individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic abuse from obtaining firearms but only nine states bar those convicted of misdemeanor stalking from owning a gun.

Just like the post office bans employees from carrying guns, UPS has similar policies, and when a mad man decides to turn people into targets, this is what happens:

A recently fired UPS employee on Tuesday shot dead two supervisors at the company facility where he had worked in Birmingham, Alabama before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The gunman, who was wearing a brown UPS uniform, had been terminated earlier this month and had learned a day earlier that he had lost his appeal to get his job back, police said, adding that his motive was not immediately clear. Police had earlier said that the man was fired on Monday.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9:30am at a large, brick UPS service centre atop a hill in the Inglenook section of Birmingham, close to the airport, police said.

Officers found the two victims along with the gunman, who had arrived at the facility in a Honda SUV and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Birmingham Police Chief AC Roper said.

Police fired no shots, he said.

“When these people came to work today, they had no idea that this would be their last day here on Earth,” Roper said.

Lieutenant Sean Edwards said the two men killed by the gunman appeared to be higher-ranked UPS employees.
