Worst Way to Demonstrate Gun Safety

Mon, 03/31/2014 - 16:04

Here’s an example of what not to do:

The death of the Michigan man who shot himself while attempting to demonstrate how safe his guns were has been ruled a suicide—and his family isn’t happy about it. Jennifer Jackson says her longtime boyfriend James Jewell, 39, wasn’t trying to take his own life: “I was there. I know that’s not what he wanted to do,” she tells the Detroit Free Press. She and his family want the death reclassified as an accident and the word “suicide” removed from the death certificate. Jackson says Jewell, whose blood alcohol content was found to be 0.20, had drunk six to eight beers and a couple shots, and was only mildly buzzed at the time of the shooting and not “sloppy drunk.”

They had been relaxing on the afternoon of Feb. 23 at a bar, and about three hours after leaving, Jewell decided to give Jackson the safety demonstration. He was trying to convince her to keep a gun in her nightstand for protection, since he had been working late hours. But Jackson was resis

Hardin and White Counties #1 in Concealed Carry Applications

Sun, 03/30/2014 - 14:15

Looks like Democrats running those counties are gonna have to watch what they say about our 2nd Amendment

PEORIA, Ill. — Two southeastern Illinois counties have the highest per capita number of concealed carry applications, according to a newspaper analysis.

Hardin and White counties topped the state for the most permit requests based on their population — a rate of 12.5 applications per 1,000 residents, The (Peoria) Journal Star (http://bit.ly/1hPFWWW ) reported. The article was part of joint project published by GateHouse Media’s Illinois newspapers.

So far, 54 residents in Hardin County have applied for the permits issued by Illinois State Police and another 184 applications have come from White County residents.

Cook County, which is home to Chicago, had the least number of applications per capita — 2.3 per 1,000 residents. But the state’s most populated county led the state in simple numbers, with 12,027 applicants so far.

State Police began accepting permit applications in January and by early March the agency said nearly 49,000 people had applied. All permit applicants have to attend at least 16 hours of training before they can apply for the licenses, as well as meet requirements such as spending at least an hour at a gun rang

Honor Patrick Foster with Gun Rights for Cabbies

Sat, 03/29/2014 - 17:07

Taxi-driver Patrick Foster was shot 5 times and was able to call the police and hold his attacker until the cops came.

“Had Patrick Foster not held that man down, the guy might have gotten away with it,” Davis said Saturday. “It made me real conscious. Most of us can’t survive five gun shots. Most of us can’t survive one.”

Foster died of complications from the gunshot wounds to his neck, back and jaw on May 24, 2010 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.

Now they want to honor him with a sticker:

Waukegan taxi driver Joe Davis is heading up a drive to create a decal or sticker honoring Foster to be displayed on taxis as a reminder of his actions and the dangers inherent to the job.

Why not honor him by giving others their 2nd Amendment rights?  Being a cab driver is a dangerous profession just like being a cop, but cops are allowed to carry guns, so

What’s wrong with being a gun-loving Tomboy?

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 23:06

I support freedom of association, and the right of private schools to choose their students, but look at this case:

FOREST, Va. — Eight-year-old Sunnie Kahle likes to keep her hair short, wear boys’ clothes, collect hunting knives and shoot her BB gun….to Timberlake Christian School administrators, the second-grader’s boyish ways warranted an ultimatum: Start acting like a girl or find another school.

I get the clothes, but is it a crime for a girl to like BB guns and hunting knives? Is she supposed to wait for her knight in shinning armor to save her life? I have a niece, she’s all-girl but I’m hoping at some point in her life she’ll learn to shoot guns or at least martial arts (my sister is a bit of a liberal).

Principal Becky Bowman wrote that “we believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education.”

State of Emergency Florida Gun Bill

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 22:53

You remember how guns where confiscated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina? Well, in Florida they’re being proactive in preventing  future confiscations.

Saint Petersburg, Florida – A bill has made its way onto the Florida house floor that would allow gun owners in certain situations to carry their weapons even if they do not have a permit.

“For both safety and protection reasons, firearm owners would want to have that ability,” said Gary Miller, a concealed weapons permit holder. “That would be something that could be reasonable.”

HB 209 would suspend concealed carry gun laws during mandatory evacuations in Florida July 1st, if it became law.

The breakdown means that if a State of Emergency is declared, and gun owners without a permit were forced to leave their homes, then they would not have to leave their weapon at home.

“This is unrealistic,” said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri who insist the law isn’t clear and, at best, needs to be re-worked to prevent confusion for gun owners. “What I’m afraid is going to happen is we’re going to end up in a situation where we’re going to have citizens that are going to become felons, and they&#821

US Navy Shooter Had Criminal Record

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 02:34

Here’s a good lesson for all of us when dealing with unarmed lunatics:

The US Navy on Thursday identified the civilian who killed a sailor aboard a destroyer in Virginia this week, saying he stripped a guard of his gun before opening fire.

The incident, at America’s largest naval base, has raised fresh questions about security at military installations after a shooting rampage last September at the Washington Navy Yard when a civilian contractor killed 12 people.

Authorities said Jeffery Savage (35) a truck driver who had driven his vehicle on to the Norfolk naval base on Monday, tried to board the USS Mahan, a guided-missile destroyer, but was told to stop and confronted by security officers.

“A struggle occurred and Savage was able to disarm the petty officer of the watch,” according to a statement from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

Savage used the gun to kill Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Mark Mayo before other security guards shot him dead, it said.

Savage had served time in prison for voluntary manslaughter and selling cocaine, according to The Virginian-Pilot and other local media.

The shooter had a valid transportation worker credential, but officials sai

Condoleeza Rice is Pro-Gun

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 01:47

Condoleeza Rice spoke “before a group of over 2,000 attendees at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual dinner in Washington D.C.” and now Mediaite is discussing her presidential aspirations.

So I did a little research and found out she’s pro-gun.

Right to bear arms comes from fear of the government[In "Bombingham" of 1963], after the first explosion, Daddy just went outside and sat on the porch with his gun on his lap. He sat there all night looking for white night riders.

Eventually Daddy & the men of the neighborhood formed a watch. They would take shifts at the head of the entrances to our streets. Occasionally they would fire a gun into the air to scare off intruders, but they never actually shot anyone.

Because of this experience, I’m a fierce defender of the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms. Had my father and his neighbors registered their weapons, Bull Connor surely would have confiscated them or worse. The Constitution speaks of the right to a well-regulated militia. The inspiration for this was the Founding Fathers’ fear of the govern

Scheffler’s Straight Shooters opens Crooksville, IL

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 21:51

This is what I like about small-town newspapers, they report news that would not be news in other places.

ZANESVILLEAs a child, while his friends were off at basketball camps, Justin Scheffler was in his grandfather’s South Zanesville gun shop rebuilding antique military guns.

It was there, at Maysville Discount Guns, that Scheffler’s lifelong appreciation of firearms was born.

Scheffler had always talked about opening his own gun shop, but it took his wife Tonya’s hypothetical business model she created in college to turn Scheffler’s Straight Shooters into a reality. Last November, the Crooksville couple converted a largely unused shed into a business, serving a niche market of gun lovers.

“It works on two levels,” Scheffler said of his store name. “We do gunsmith

Legislation addresses gun buyback problem

A quirk in state law needs fixing so that Baton Rouge can continue, legally, a popular gun buyback program.

House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs approved without objection legislation that would authorize the program in Baton Rouge and in any parish or municipality that wants to hold a similar, no-questions-asked effort to get guns off the street.House Bill 272, sponsored by state Rep. Alfred Williams, D-Baton Rouge, now goes to the full House for consideration.

Mark Dumaine, an assistant district attorney for the Baton Rouge-based 19th District, said how lawmakers dealt with the population decline in New Orleans had the unintended consequence of removing Baton Rouge’s legal authority to hold the popular “Gas for Guns” buyback events.

Traditionally, Dumaine explained, state laws would use population as a way to identify which cities or parishes were impacted. As Baton Rouge’s population grew, it started being included in definitions

Santa Monica College Hosts NRA-Turncoat

Thu, 03/27/2014 - 00:14

Liberals claim to be open minded, yet they only invite people who agree with them.

March 27, 2014 — Tom Diaz, former NRA member turned gun-control advocate, will speak next month at Santa Monica College, where one of the deadliest shooting sprees in the bayside city’s history last summer came to an end.

Diaz’s talk, “The Gun Business: How We Can Change Policies That Kill,” will take place in the Humanities & Social Science building, around the corner from the library, where last summer, police gunned down a young shooter, ending a rampage that left six dead.

“Diaz is a former National Rifle Association (NRA) member, gun enthusiast, and competitive shooter who became a strong advocate for stricter gun control in the United States after researching gun legislation while working as a Congressional staffer, and interviewing victims of gun violence,” college officials said.

He “has written numerous research papers and articles on the proliferation and easy availability of firearms in the United States, and their impact on crime, death, and injury,” officials said. “A prominent speaker on the gun industry and gun control issues, he has appeared on numerous television and radio shows.”

The question of gun control has been a hot topic in Santa

Beware of Gun-Snatching Fedzillacrats

Wed, 03/26/2014 - 23:47

The following is a brilliant commentary by Ted Nugent, enjoy:

If anyone believes that gun confiscation is not a real threat here in America or that it couldn’t happen here like it did in the U.K. and Australia, just look to what is happening in Connecticut. It is the invasion of the gun snatchers.

In yet more fantasy-driven symbolism over meaningful substance, Connecticut state politicians passed some hastily concocted gun control measures last year that effectively banned numerous standard rifles and magazines. Owners of these weapons are being forced to either turn in these guns or essentially be labeled as felons and prosecuted worse than real law breakers.

Let’s cut to the chase: The weapons being outlawed are so-called “assault weapons.”

Fortunately, thousands of good-guy gun-owning patriots in Connecticut have refused to turn in their weapons. Good. It’s time to make a stand. The truth and common sense must always fight against idiocy and feel-good, politically correct politics.

The only thing “assault” about so-called “assault weapons” is the assault on our Second Amendment rights.

According to the FBI, so-called “assault weapons” that President Obama and Sens. Feinstein and Schumer want to ban are rarely if ever used in cri

Yee the Gun Haters/Gun Smuggler

Wed, 03/26/2014 - 23:39

Criminals support gun control, and in the case of State Sen. Leland Yee, profit from it:

“Another way Yee sought to raise money for his 2014 secretary of state campaign was by promising to help undercover agents obtain illegal guns from an international arms dealer, federal authorities allege. Authorities say Yee, who has promoted gun control legislation in the Senate, helped orchestrate illegal, transnational arms deals.

Yee touted his connection to an anonymous Filipino arms broker who had funneled guns to rebel groups in the Philippines and could source guns from Russia, the affidavit says. The affidavit quotes Yee as saying, “I have seen what he has done in the past on other products and this guy has the relationships” and describing an encounter with “armed guards with machine guns” during a visit to the Philippines.

“Do I think we can make some money? I think we can make some money,” the affidavit quotes Yee as saying. “Do I think we can get the goods? I think we can get the goods.”

Later, Yee shifted to a different dealer named Wilson Lim whose “associates in the Philippines were trying to overthrow the current government and needed money,” according to the affidavit. Yee participated in detailed discussion

What Conservative Book Bubble?

Tue, 03/25/2014 - 18:16

Liberals can’t stand it when conservative are successful, the author of  Is the conservative book boom bubble about to burst? admits we outsell liberals.

It’s no joke that conservative books – not liberal ones – have been flying off shelves for the better part of the last decade. As we reported in August 2012, an Amazon Election Heat Map indicated that the vast majority of states, some 43, buy “red” books and about 56 percent of political book purchases are right-leaning.

Yet he confuses books with stocks, and thinks there’s a bubble that’s about to burst:

“You are left to rely completely on cable and radio [for promotion] and as a consequence of that, you have to provide those ventures the type of material they want,” Adam Bellow, who runs HarperCollins’ conservative imprint, Broadside, told BuzzFeed. “It’s become a kind of blood sport and the most ruthless gladiator comes out on top.”
