My Wife Said I Was Unsafe

Wed, 10/28/2015 - 23:02

Tom sends in a voicemail about gun safety. At what point in taking a gun apart is it no longer a gun? When the barrel is removed? When it’s disabled?

“Guns can go from zero to dangerous very quickly.”

Our answer: When it’s obvious to everyone around.

[Interview] USPSA National Champion Chris Tilley

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 00:00

This week on the podcast, we sat down with Chris Tilley, just a couple days after he got home from winning the 2015 USPSA Open National Championship. It’s funny, Chris lives right here in the Raleigh area, and we’ve never had him on the podcast before. Anyways, we talk about how he got into the sport as a junior shooter, and quickly rose to a competitor that’s known around the world.

“Shooting is so unnatural, if you start doing what’s comfortable, you’re going to create a lot of bad habits”

Lots of good stuff in this interview, check it out and tell your friends.

Front Sight Focus, Target Focus, or Somewhere In-between?

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 23:02

Kurt in Chicago sends in his voicemail about whether or not he should play with his lens prescription to see the front sight crisply, or to have the targets in focus, or somewhere inbetween. He mentions that he’s far-sighted, where both Ben and I are near-sighted, so we can’t completely relate, but we both agree that he needs to be able to see the front sight good and crisp.

As always, if you’d like to send us a voicemail, here’s where to find out how.

Sitting on the Patio at Starbucks Tonight…

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 18:09

And I witnessed two knuckleheads squaring off in what began as a parking misunderstanding and was quickly escalating into people screaming, pounding on their cars, and was probably about to get physical any time.

How Often Do You Dryfire With Your CCW Rig?

Wed, 10/21/2015 - 23:02

Jon in Florida sends in a voicemail with a really good question about how often we dryfire practice with our CCW rigs. In all honesty, neither Ben or I really dryfire much from our actual carry rigs. Ben plays a game with himself he likes to call “What if I had to draw right now?” where he’ll test himself in different situations to see how he’d get to his gun, and I just don’t really worry about it much.

Dryfire Without a Timer?

Tue, 10/20/2015 - 23:02

Kenny in Idaho sends in his voicemail and talks about dryfire without a timer. He’s been preparing for USPSA Nationals, and in doing so, he’s been focusing on doing things correctly, instead of chasing that lower par time all the time.

As always, if you’d like to send in a voicemail for the Q&A show, here’s how to do it.

What Shotgun Sights Should I Use for 3-Gun?

Mon, 10/19/2015 - 23:02

Cole in Raleigh sends in his voicemail for today’s Q&A show about what sights to use on a 3-Gun shotgun. Neither Ben or I are 3-gunners (I haven’t shot a single 3-gun match since 2012) so we decided to reach out to our friend and 3 Gun Nation Pro Series competitor Tommy Smith to get his opinion on what’s up with shotgun sights for 3-gun.

This episode was sponsored by The Blue Bullets at thebluebullets.com. They just announced some new bulk discounts, and shipping deals that you should check out if you’re looking to buy some new bullets for competitive shooting. Don’t forget, you can save even more with the code “triangle” at checkout. First impression: Lee Auto Drum Powder Measure

Wed, 10/07/2015 - 14:55

I’ve been loading ammo on my Lee Turret Press for about a year and a half now, and I’ve loaded somewhere north of 10,000 rounds of 9mm on it. That whole time I’ve been using the Lee Auto-Disk powder measure. In the beginning I was using Unique powder for 9mm, and I didn’t have any complaints with the Auto-Disk. It threw charges that were accurate enough, and it worked fine. However, a few months back I picked up an 8lb jug of Bullseye powder, which is much finer, and smaller flakes. What I found with the Lee Auto-Disk was that it spilled my precious powder all over my press, and my workbench. Every thousand or so rounds the auto-disk would get enough Bullseye powder under the disk that it would lock up hard, and I’d have to stop loading, tear it apart, and clean it.

Slide Lock or Slide Release?

Welcome back to episode 86 of the Triangle Tactical Q&A Show. Today’s voicemail comes in from Brian from Charlotte. If you’d like to send us a question, go to triangletactical.net/voicemail to find out how.

Brian read where someone on Facebook said that you shouldn’t use the slide release on a pistol as a slide release because it might break something. We say it’s BS.
